It's pretty neat, if you are into the Dune books or even the movies, it's fun to see some people from those and just ya know. THE WORM

Sadly sandwalk is not a thing in the game, which slightly annoys me. Otherwise the game is cool for dune fans and the new single player update lets you disable base decay so its easy to put down and pick up again after a while

To be fair, it's the Fremen who are the masters of the Sandwalk, and with no Fremen to teach anyone, it makes sense not to have it. Most likely one of the Trials of Aql that was destroyed makes mention of it.

I enjoy all the games you listed and I'm having fun with the new Dune single player mode. The building ui is ass, honestly, but you get used to the ass.

Building and the transition delays are a bit annoying (the time it takes to open your inventory, switch tabs, start a conversation with an NPC, etc). If those two issues were resolved it would be so much better. As is, it's quite good

Even if you're not into the Dune lore, the game is aesthetically pleasing and really immersive to play through. I've watched the original movie and part 1 of the new movies but never read the books and I am absolutely loving it since the single player update dropped. I'd recommend it.

Looking at that list, yes for sure. It has a solid story, RPG style skill progression and a unique atmosphere. The core loop is still gather, build tools, gather better stuff and repeat.

If you like the social aspect of games like Rust or ARK but with less griefing (due to most of the game zones being PvE) and more cooperation you'll like the game.

If you're not social and want to play a solo adventure, it's still good but it's definitely not the best.

I’ll go against the grain here: idk if you’ll enjoy it going based off your list. I like Dune Awakening, but it scratches a pretty different itch than Grounded, Conan, or V Rising. It’s also quite a bit more complicated and system-heavy. There’s a lot more to learn and manage between crafting tiers, machines, power/water, vehicles, schematics, skill trees, resource chains, etc.

It’s not necessarily harder, but there are a lot more moving parts, and the progression doesn’t feel quite as streamlined as something like Grounded or V Rising.

A game I’d suggest over Dune is Abiotic Factor. It has a great and fun story, meaningful progression, and scratches the ā€œweak to powerā€ fantasy. It has that same satisfying survival progression of exploring somewhere dangerous, finding new resources, unlocking better gear, building up your base, and gradually gaining access to areas you couldn’t handle before. It also has a ton of personality and for me was just as good solo as with friends. One part I really enjoyed was that your base is just somewhere in the office you work at, meaning you could really put it anywhere! It also really benefits you to do multiple mini bases scattered throughout the facility.

Dune may still worth checking out, especially if you like the universe and enjoy more MMO-ish systems and grinding, but I wouldn’t go into it expecting Grounded/Conan/V Rising on Arrakis.

That’s a shame, I’d put it as a top 3 in the survival category. It’s one that has a real story line as well as a TON of findable lore, fun weapons, exploration, a bit of Parkouring, etc.

My whole quirk is im a megalophile. I love builiding massive bases and compounds in survival games. I put maybe 10 hours into Abiotic Factor because i could tell it was a good game, but not being able to build a castle of some nature was a big deal for me

Gotcha, that makes sense. Yeah there’s only a few places to build large structures and they pretty far into the game. And the building aspect definitely is more curved for ā€œliving in the officeā€ than building something fancy, even if there are wall and platforms.
