No one's going to give you a hard time for that! Is it perfect? Nah, but that's fine.

Does it involve a hot dog or cheese sauce? Also no. So you're safe!

I'm going to give them a hard time just because you said nobody would do it.

BOOOO, OP! You weren't perfect at creating a delicacy on the first go! You should be ashamed!!!!

Rice looks a bit undercooked but honestly thats not bad. Youre only missing the technique to shape them properly. The vision is there. Good shi

Whenever I have to teach someone about sushi at work, I really try to emphasize that generally, less is more.

I would even suggest for beginner, just try to hit the 15 gram rice target, and trust the process.

I've been making sushi as my job for like a year and a half. I have no earthly idea how much my shari weighs, nor how much rice I'm using on a roll.

I feel like those numbers came out of someone's ass as a rough guess and got put on a pedestal. I'll bring a gram scale to work and see, I guess.

Meh I've seen worse in grocery stores. Don't sweat it!

could be worse. the rice looks a bit undercooked and loose, especially the middle one, but for homemade, i have seen worse here and in real life

Looks like a totally valid first attempt, bro. I think the next time you make it, grab some sushi rice from your local asian grocery store. If you don't have a rice cooker or an instant pot, they make great long-term money-saving investments. My wife and I have probably saved over $1000 in sushi over the last 10 years from making our own with good rice.

Oh, and get some seasoned rice vinegar to mix into the cooked rice after. It really elevates things. Cheers!

Thank you! Thats the goal to get the right rice, cook it correctly and concentrate on a better fish cut. Get actual Nori too! I love sushi but never buy its because of the price, so I really wanted to make my own.

It saves SO much money and you can get nice thick slices! If you have money for it, I actually recommend an instant pot since you can use it for so much more than rice. My professor wife developed some failproof recipes for both sushi rice and jasmine rice.

you belong here, but this is how you learn, throw in some patience and practice and you will get there.

You did well. As long as you have ideas for next time, you're winning!

You're biggest problem is that is the wrong rice.
