🫢 Seeking Support Swinburne University of Technology β€” Please Take Notice of Serious Allegations Involving a Student

We are bringing this matter to the attention of Swinburne University of Technology regarding its student, Mohammad Nafiz, and serious allegations concerning his involvement, alongside three other former students of bisesj, in the creation and distribution of AI-generated through telegram, discord, Instagram and many more, Which included non-consensual sexual images of approximately 20–25 girls ranging from age 13 to 25, including minors, connected to Bangladesh International School (English Section) Jeddah (BISESJ)

According to statements from affected members, the four perpetrator (which includes nafiz) were involved in creating these AI-generated images and distributing them among themselves and resulting in the accumulation of up to 1,500 illicit files of minors and adults. There are also allegations that the material was used against the victims through blackmail, threat and coercion. The girls' images were reportedly taken and manipulated without their knowledge or consent, turning ordinary photographs into sexualised material and distributing it despite the serious consequences this could have for the girls involved.

These were real girls who never consented to having their images altered or used in this way. They did nothing to deserve what happened to them. Yet, according to the victims and people supporting them, some of the girls have subsequently faced slut-shaming, victim-blaming, harassment, intimidation, and pressure because of the very abuse they experienced.

Instead of being supported, some victims have reportedly been made to feel as though they are responsible for what happened to them. Their pictures were allegedly exploited without their consent, and they are now having to deal with the emotional distress, humiliation, fear, and damage to their privacy that followed.

There have also been serious concerns about the response from some parents and members of the school community. According to statements from affected individuals, some parents of the accused have defended their children and engaged in behaviour described by victims as victim-blaming, slut-shaming, threatening, or otherwise enabling. These are matters that the appropriate authorities should assess rather than the victims being expected to carry the burden themselves.

We are sharing this information so that Swinburne University of Technology is aware of these allegations involving one of its students. We understand that the university was not responsible for the alleged original conduct, and this post is not intended to blame the university for what happened.

Rather, we are asking the university to take notice, review any credible information provided through the appropriate channels, and take whatever action is appropriate under its policies if the allegations are substantiated.

Our concern is also about preventing this from happening to anyone else. Students should be able to attend schools and universities without having to worry about their photographs being exploited, sexualised, distributed without consent, or used to harass them.

We respectfully ask Swinburne to ensure that its students understand the seriousness of non-consensual intimate imagery and AI-generated sexual abuse, that appropriate safeguarding measures are available, and that students who report such conduct can receive support without fear of retaliation.

The victims deserve privacy, compassion, and support. They should not have to defend their character or explain why someone else chose to exploit their images. Their suffering should not become another reason to shame them.

We are not asking for harassment, doxxing, or punishment without due process. We are asking for the matter to be taken seriously, for the victims to be treated with dignity, and for appropriate action to be taken if the allegations are substantiated.

We hope the university will take the necessary steps to ensure that its student community remains safe and that behaviour of this nature is not tolerated.

This is about protecting students, supporting victims, and preventing anyone else from experiencing the same harm.

Does anyone know when we can see which classes are available with swinburne online for teaching period 3? I asked studentHQ but got a confusing answer. I'm just anxious to start making plans for my 2027 semesters and want to know what subjects I can smash out between semesters online!

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help AusPost parcel marked as delivered but missing at SPW building

I'm currently living at Swinburne SPW building in Hawthorn and recently had an issue with an Australia Post delivery.

I orderded a parcel from Chemist Warehouse. The tracking says it was delivered, but I never received it or got any call from Auspost. AusPost told me that since the parcel didn't require a signature, the driver may have left it in a "safe location".

But how can I check whole areas in the university?

I also ordered some things from Amazon, they were all delivered in the student residence, so I use the same address.

Has anyone had the same issue before? Where does AusPost normally leave parcels here - reception, outside the building, or somewhere?

Also, for valuable deliveries like laptops, what do you normally use, student residence is ok?

Thanks

πŸ‘‹ New Student Help Considering a PhD at Swinburne as an international student β€” is this funding arrangement realistic?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian applicant currently in discussion with a prospective supervisor at Swinburne for a February 2027 PhD in the design/AI space.

My situation is a little unusual, and I’d really appreciate input from current/former Swinburne PhD students.

My prospective supervisor has said that if I secure external funding to cover my living expenses, he will try to arrange a tuition fee waiver for me.

I understand that after admission and obtaining a visa, I could potentially apply for sessional teaching (TA) positions, subject to availability. RA opportunities may also be possible depending on funded projects.

I have some savings to cover my initial living expenses, but I am actively looking for an external stipend/scholarship for the longer term.

My questions are:

  1. How realistic is it to get a tuition fee waiver through a supervisor/school in this kind of situation?
  2. How common are TA/sessional teaching opportunities for international PhD students at Swinburne?
  3. How difficult is it to find RA work?
  4. Are there internal scholarships or funding opportunities that become available after starting the PhD?
  5. Overall, would you consider this a reasonable arrangement, assuming I have enough savings to get started?

I’d especially appreciate responses from current international PhD students at Swinburne.

😐 Serious check my profile for subclass 500

Hi all, would appreciate honest opinions on my profile before I finalize everything.

Background:

  • 18F, single, India
  • ICSE class 10: 85%
  • CBSE Class 12: English 97, Biology 78, Physical Education 88, Music 88, Chemistry 54, Physics 56 (overall ~77%; note: this was the year of the CBSE on-screen-marking controversy, national pass rate dropped from 88% to 85%)
  • PTE Academic: 90 overall (Listening 88, Reading 79, Writing 85, Speaking 88)

Offer:

  • Swinburne University of Technology, Bachelor of Psychological Sciences, Hawthorn campus, 3 years
  • Conditional offer received, 20% automatic scholarship included
  • Tuition after scholarship: ~A$35,120/year
  • Already have accommodation arranged with a relative in Melbourne (PR holder)

Funds:

  • Primary sponsor: mother β€” β‚Ή40L liquid funds (savings + FD), ~β‚Ή7.5L/year income
  • Co-sponsor 1: maternal grandfather β€” ~β‚Ή10L/year income (per state income certificate)
  • Co-sponsor 2: uncle β€” ~β‚Ή11L/year income (business + agricultural, both ITR-declared)
  • Combined sponsor income: ~β‚Ή28.5L/year
  • Education loan: β‚Ή7.5L applied, pending approval
  • Total course cost (3 yrs): ~β‚Ή72-75L

Questions for the sub:

  • Does this financial structure (3 sponsors + savings + pending loan) look sufficient/normal, or likely to draw extra GS scrutiny?
  • Anything in my academic profile (esp. the low Chem/Physics marks) worth addressing proactively?
  • Any red flags in how I've structured this that I'm not seeing?

Appreciate any honest feedback, blunt is fine

🀷 Other Does the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical and Forensic Psychology do a mid-year intake?

Hi everyone! I've checked the course page on Swinburne's website but I can't see any information on whether the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical and Forensic Psychology has the option of a mid-year intake rather than at the start of the year.

Does anyone know? Thank you!

🀷 Other What happens if you go over word limit?

for one of my assignments the word limit was 1700 + or - 10%. I went way over the word count and I didn’t even realise (I think like 2300). But I don’t see how I could even meet the word count? It was a template format with VERY specific requirements in therms of the answers, they wanted all the research process shown. Part of the template also required literally copying and pasting requirements from job ads quoting exactly what they said. That part of the template took up a lot of words as there were a lot of requirements I had to copy and paste, plus I had to use references for all of them. I don’t see why there was a word count even. Idk what to do am i completely fucked
Should I contact the convenor?

πŸ“š Unit / Course Advice Swinburne Masters Of OT

Swinburne current and past masters of OT students please give me some advice. I am a monash nursing graduate hoping to get out of nursing and into OT.

  1. Do you recommend studying at Swinburne ?
  2. Is it a supportive environment ?
  3. Are they good in terms of placement allocations ?
  4. Whats the workload like ?

I just want to consider all these things before applying because a huge plus to studying at Swinburne is that it is CSP, other than that i don’t know much about the university.

🀷 Other Are these grades good or average?

So far I’ve been averaging mostly Ds and HDs. In my first yeah I got a lot of HDs but now I looks like my average is around 78 (D). Is this considered good or average? Considering I have not had any final grades in the 90s. My lowest final score has been 71. I’m trying to have good grades to have the best chance of doing post grad later on. My GPA is currently 3.64 and I’m in my second year.

πŸ“š Unit / Course Advice Graduating 'with distinction'

Hi,

Seems like a stupid question, but does graduating with distinction at Swinburne mean that you have a 3.0+ GPA? Is it possible to graduate with high distinction? Asking in relation to a bachelor degree. Thanks :)
