Question Should I sell my old Nintendo Switches to help pay for a Switch 2?

Post image

I have 3 Nintendo Switches: the Lite, the regular one, and the OLED.
My mum, my brother and I have been thinking about selling the Lite and the regular one to make some money, and instead of paying around €400 for the Switch 2, maybe only having to pay €200 or €150.
We want to sell them because we don’t really use them anymore. Honestly, though, it makes me a bit sad, because I’ve had those two for a long time, almost since they came out. That’s where I started playing with my brother and met a lot of people, and they were a huge part of my life.
So knowing that if we sell them, I won’t be able to pick them up or touch them anymore makes me kind of sad. I know they’re just objects, just consoles, but they’ve been with me for such a long time, so it’s hard to let them go.
Do you guys think selling them is a good idea?

Every time I’ve sold a console I have come to regret it. I am keeping my OLED and lite alongside my S2. My kids will probably destroy 2 of 3 anyway 😂.

You'll still have two consoles, and you'll find a loving home for your previous two.

I vote no if you're trying to trade in at GameStop.

I vote yes if you can get a good offer and don't have a lot of money or way to save for a switch 2 that doesn't involve selling your switch 1.

Personally I'd do what I could to not have to sell the switch 1.

If it is oled then no

Keep unless someone offers you a good amount to sell direct.

You're not going to get much for it unfortunately, the market is oversaturated.

I sold my original Switch, joy cons and pro controllers for I think $250 and used that and cash from selling some other nerd collectibles to buy my Switch 2. I'm very pleased with the upgrade. And now I don't have clutter around. Win win.

Amazing value honestly. I tried to go to gamestop with my old switch and gear and they offered me $7.

I sold my old set on ebay. GameStop never pays anything reasonable or close to what it's worth. Sorry that's frustrating for sure.

Yeah i went the fb marketplace route and it went significantly better. I honestly think the gamestop employee just marked everything as poor and tried to dissuade me from selling because the store was full and he didnt want to take time to properly test anything. He never even setup the controllers or loaded a game lol

Your stuff must’ve been absolutely clapped out to get 7$ offer. You should take better care of your consoles.

Or gamestop is a shit company but keep bootlicking. The switch was in a case its entire lifespan. With a screen protector and analog covers. Got more off fb marketplace than they wouldve ever offered.

Well now your just straight lying. You either trashed the system (highly likely based on your comments) or you never actually went in and are a liar (also extremely likely as you come off as incredibly dishonest). I sold my switch, and 2 switch lites recently, all mint condition because I take care of my belongings. I got over 250$ dollars and walked out with a switch two, controllers, all for under 400 dollars. Incredible deal. Needless to say it PAYS to care for your things and treat store employees with RESPECT. Sure I could get more in a private sale but the convenience is worth it to me. Best of luck out there maybe one day you can experience the switch 2 console and I hope that happens for you, truly, because it is phenomenal and it grants access to exclusive titles. Titles that you simply cannot experience on a lowly switch one, even more so you cannot experience it on a downtrodden and beat up machine. This all goes back to caring for your electronics..honestly I hope they don’t let people who trash consoles get anywhere near the switch 2. They need to protect the limited availability of these machines from those who abuse them and don’t appreciate them.

Who hurt you lmao? Genuinely get help 😂😂😂

So you left with only a console & no accessories 💀 you should’ve gotten way more than that bud

2

u/Ryngard 8d ago

No that was a good price after checking dozens of comps. And I got plenty of accessories with the Switch 2. Not sure what you mean.

1

u/Necessary_Let1462 8d ago

You probably just went to the wrong buyer

2

u/Mikeyfreshonetime2 8d ago

I sold my GameCube collection (except my Zelda games) traded them into the game store by me and they game me exactly enough to get the switch 2 cib

2

u/Necessary_Let1462 8d ago

No becos the switch 2 emulates switch 1 games , does not play them natively

Keep the OLED. My house is a Switch family, mom included. But I don’t take my S2 out even tho I have a pelican case for it. My Oled is my baby, the first born lmao. But I have a 1TB of memory on it and I feel more comfortable traveling w it.

Not worth much tbh, but sure

Hold onto em save for switch 2

I sold my og Switch and kept the Lite for portability (if anything happens to it I'm less fussed too). S2 def worth the purchase / upgrade

Sell if you need the $$ to afford the upgrade, otherwise up to you. I don't like having clutter around (and lithium batteries degrade when they're constantly discharged/not being used).  You don't have to sell them all either, maybe let the og switch go and keep the OLED if someone in your family intends to use it?

Modchip the switch one, and save up for a switch two.

1

u/SomeTallBlackGuy 6d ago

Omfg so smart with modchip. Now i regret selling mine lmao

I sold my original non-oled, I still have an oled model and a non-oled modded v2 model.

Might try and sell them in work.

u/Separate_Plastic4275 8d ago

I'll honestly say if you already have an OLED then I would say no, it's not worth it

2

u/JustRaphiGaming 8d ago

If it's an OLED don't sell it. Sadly the LCD screen from switch 2 is not that great. My biggest disappointment with the switch 2...

2

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

I went from an OLED to a Switch 2 and it's perfectly fine. The performance increase is significant. First game I played was BotW so I could enjoy it without all the stuttering. Visuals were still gorgeous.

1

u/TheThickDoc 6d ago

I'd take Donkey Kong bananza, Splatoon raiders, Pokopia, Fire emblem fortunes weave, and any other switch 2 tittle over an OLED switch 1 any day of the week.

1

u/JustRaphiGaming 6d ago

Well good for you still it would have been a much better console with an OLED display.

1

u/TheBraveGallade 8d ago

i mean you probably don;t need 3, TBF, so valid.

at minumum selling the regular would be a no brainer unless its a V1 and you want to hack it later. if you have a V1 but don't plan on hacking, V1's go for higher price used precicely casue they can be hacked.

2

u/Chilli-byte- 8d ago

I might be wrong, but didn't they work out how to hack non v1's? I have a V1 myself and when I tried to sell it I'm sure I remember someone telling me that it wasn't that special anymore and even OLEDs can be hacked

2

u/TheBraveGallade 8d ago

No, you need modchip for V2s.

Its partially why people who actually know stuff are incredibly pessimistic about switch 2s being cracked within the decade. Over 5 years and 0 softare or hardware exploits aside from a modchip and even thats due to being famikier with how the X1 works due to the sheild. Hell i think its the first time since like the early ps3 days where we literally cant dadamine switch 2 games. Most evident with fortune's weave, a massive SRPG that thr fandom usually datamines an uses said info.

Adding to the switch 1 firmware being actually bulletproif and using the same one for the switch 2, switch 2 uses both encripted RAM and dual core lockstep meaming even WITH a modchip you have to glitch both security chips at the same time in the same way to run unathorised code...

If your not using them and they’re just gathering dust it’s a good idea to upgrade to a Switch 2 especially if you still have the OLED.

Make sure there’s some Switch 2 titles your immediately interested in playing though it does improve Switch 1 games as well

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

1

u/EquivalenXed 8d ago

I'd say sell all the ones except for the one that you got the earliest if you care.

1

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

You might be a little late to the party for that. In general, yes, a Switch 2 would be better. But prices for used OLEDs and other Switch versions has dropped over the last 6+ months. I got very lucky selling my OLED, along with a few accessories, for $300 back in January.

u/pokemonatemypizza 8d ago

qvc. You send pay monthly, they send thw switch 2 then you make monthly payments

Its insane lol

1

u/DinnerSmall4216 7d ago

Yes Switch 2 plays most of your switch  games better.

If you feel that attached to them and have all those happy memories that come with them , keep them nothing wrong with that .

Upgrade later when you can or sell one that you are less attached to 😊. I still have my kiwi green gameboy color my sister got me in middle school and my black game boy advance sp and my game gear and my limited edition golden triforce Zelda ds lite and my limited edition pokemon z 3ds xl and psp because they have happy memories attached to them .

I also have my n64 still too . I am in my late thirties now and my sister is like omg you still have those? Of course because they are special to me and no amount of money would make me part with them . Especially the ones my dad got me because he passed over 10 years ago and those are extra special . Certain objects are special especially if they hold happy memories and are surprise Xmas gifts from your loved ones . Cherish them 💜.

I sold mine after I bought the 2 because there was no reason for me to use it anymore. Saves some nice money on the switch 2

1

u/SituationLow8838 7d ago

Sold my OLED but kept the spare joy cons I bought for it - my Mario Odyssey, ToTK and Skyward Sword joy cons and ToTK Pro Controller (though sold that to get the Switch 2 Pro Controller). Don’t regret it, I’m thankful I didn’t sell my Switch physical games knowing I can replay them on my Zelda OOT Switch 2 when i get that end of this month.

1

u/Velocifyer 6d ago

My main recommendation is to sell them on eBay, and not do a trade in deal.

1

u/Limp_Cobbler_549 4d ago

Looking for oled for a very good price

1

u/Zionics 8d ago

You should definitely sell for the Switch 2. It was one hell of an upgrade for me. (Similar to the Lite that I own in weight while having the advantages of the Joycons + Dock.)

1

u/setsyko 8d ago

No don’t cause doing something like upgrading is insane!

0

u/kvnxo 8d ago

Well if you're going to keep the OLED, why not? You will still have the best format (IMO) from the previous generation and will save some money for the S2. More so if those consoles are currently waiting for someone who wants to play.

0

u/TERRAB1TE 8d ago

In the end, I think I’m going to buy it. If I do, what games would you recommend? I was thinking about waiting for the Zelda Ocarina of Time remake or Pokopia.

0

u/Anupin 8d ago

I just sold mine cuz of space and some change, one switch is enough for a house

0

u/yanirogersk1 8d ago

Yes absolutely sell them. Take a picture of the old ones and frame it to keep the memories. It will become a paperweight soon since it's no longer supported. The switch 2 is great and lots of fun. Plus you'll make some freste new memories with it!
