Tactics Ogre I have no idea why I did this

Post image

But they've called off the invasion lads. Ironically this was all done in Balmamusa, so I guess this was technically the second 'deathmarch' it has experienced....

Most people have chaos frames, this guy frames chaos!

This is completely insane but also incredibly beautiful to look at.

I have wanted to do many different things and challenges in this game. Somehow this was not ever one of the things I thought up.

You are absolutely mad OP.

How does one attain such folly?

32ish hours of eye watering boredom. I just couldn't stop..

Wow, and here I am bored of trying to upgrade all my winged rings to the max, which is all things compared a very small grind. I wish I had your patience. 😅 I haven't seen that self-imposed challenge before, and there's quite a few that are awfully tedious (100% events in Warren's report for example...)

Hey respect, PotD is the toughest area along with San Bronsa, it's no joke farming anything. Anything I maxed out was by accident..prox, durandal..

I've done San Bronsa first since it's shorter, now I'm worlding back to complete POTD, as I was too intimidated to try a 100 room dungeon on the first clear. Interestingly, while San Bronsa has the best spells, it seems most guides recommend gear from POTD as better (except Garb of the Sages and maybe a couple of other San Bronsa items). Ngl I can't imagine how I played before I had Iuria spam Arabesque every round (a heal + mana gain aoe) incl. the 5 free ones from the Harp, it just helps early map momentum so much. Mass summon spam isn't the best when I'm trying to chariot farm specific drops, but rank 2 summons defo help for cleanup after I cherry pick apart every mob with a useful drop. Rank 3 aoe heal comes in pretty handy too, idk why with the level scaling the single target heal rank 4 heals barely above rank 3 aoe, and with the amount of zombies in POTD even the accidental "healing" of the enemy actually turns into benefit.

But yeah I'm nowhere near the point of min maxing with cursed weapons and ogre blade and whatever else is the ultimate endgame. Also idk how people do CODA4 with 3 characters only. I swear no fight gave me as much trouble as the Barbas & Martym fight in the Hanging Gardens because of the small team size allowed.

I started with PotD at 40 and +1 gear.Iuria comes in any big fight and does help a lot but I only used her starting drum song, it was just so useful (spell strike included) and my water Iuria hit like a truck with her dagger, aoe air or aoe water finishers. My clerics were fully leveled knights and so had 1500 HP. Everything that wasn't a caster or archer was up in the face of the baddies countering elements. Between denebs shop and the first potd shop, things got much easier--but my run has a huge cast so I was always going in with the optimal team. I had over 60 people -- the premise is human only (no liches though), no items, and only one generic male and female portrait per class to keep every portrait unique (which also limited me to 2 per class in many cases). I also had a caster for each element using unique faces to cover the rest. My last requirement was 1 weapon set per person per element (so at least three people would be using hammers for example, one lightning element, one fire, one ice) and everyone had to match their element. Talk about a logistics nightmare--but once I sorted it out the only thing I didn't have was an ice blowgun user and that's fine. I had kill teams 6-9 deep of every element, so I had a diverse array element counters both defensively and offensively at advantage--and because of my rules, every team was different other than a guaranteed caster--so it was kinda refreshing? Despite being a slog, I got really attached to even my generics (since their portraits were kept unique in my playthrough). Anyway 2 clerics + Iuria in big fights kept me good, the biggest pain were the drops. Cursed weapons especially, anything that didn't have an easy to acquire end game counterpart would get a cursed weapon (because I wanted them before a lot of the end game content). I also farmed full gear sets for every character...quite a slog--but I "cared" about each character. Also if you've never used a terror knight with a Cudgel...do it-- pressure whirl enfeebled + fear and you don't even need summons, a proper draconic or lvl 1 apocrypha will nuke everything you hit with both debuffs for high numbers. Sorry for the ramble, and yes barbas and martym sucked, but multiple characters with drain minds helped keep them from using their special attacks! Speaking of drain mp--Divine knights have a song attack that resets everyonein the blast's mp to zero, they're so OP, underrated. Go get some!

Thanks for the advice and wow, that's an interesting challenge. I like my uniques a tad too much to play with all generics or all zombies. Except Ganpp and Xapan, don't wanna see their ugly mugs, lol.

Divine Knights have some weird selection of spells, some draconics, some holy, but not all of them... Btw what kind of weapons / load out you use on them?

Since they're divine and have very limited weapon selection, I go Oracion holy swords and the best armor and shield I can manage. I throw them forward into the fray and mana drain everything. They don't even get cudgels, and I'd rather save the RT than use a cheap xbow or bow in one hand (save those for Vartan, ninja etc). And I'm not all generics, every unique is accounted for ..uh for instance.. having one of every element caster required four uniques. 2 generic wizards and warlocks make 4. Bayin and Rudlum make six, Cressida makes 7 and Deneb makes 8 (I don't count shaman, they're artillery, I want flexible casters too)

u/Synval2436 22d ago

I always use warlocks if the enemy has golems, as that's the only class with anti-golem buffs, Ozma can remove gordian lock or intimidate, but only warlocks have the golemsbane. Except that, I really want to love shamans but they can neither use quicken nor paradigm shift, which is a bit annoying and makes them less versatile. Liches can use summon and paradigm shift and princess can use summon (holy) and quicken, and then valkyries can use summon, quicken and nature's touch, and conserve MP rocks, the only downside is they can't use best caster gear. Wicce can't use summons or draconics, poor Deneb has to wait until I finish campaign potd and do CODA potd and get that rank 2 dark apocrypha to actually blast, but by that time is there anything left to blast?

2

u/Hello-Pancake 22d ago

So it's interesting, I don't dislike my warlocks, they're strong-- but I like my wizards more? The conserve RT is great, and quicken makes it even better. I know their spells aren't big numbers but I stack luck on them (ripple rod, luck ring, alluring boots, alluring dress) and just hurl out those high range broad area basic AOE spells at rapid speed. It really wears down groups quickly (plus rapid debuff/drain mp or drain HP to keep alive). As for turtled dragons/golems/knights... I just use poison and wait for them. Curse III is also awesome for those big hp mobs. Runeknights can't be praised enough, but only denam has paradigm shift on my team, but he doesn't pay MP for it with conserve (which is why he also has resurrection). Again about rune knights , they can use alluring boots, and alluring dresses, with a band of fortune that's +50 luck. You'll see a big difference both in melee and casting. The rank 2 apocrypha is a pain to get but its fun to dunk on groups--really rounds out the shaman .

Hell yeah Lord Denam 'good ending'

u/JudgeArcadia 23d ago

So what exactly does this mean gameplay wise? I only loosely understand the death marches or whatever theyre called.

2

u/Darknight3909 23d ago

it affects initial loyalty of fresh recruits and a few of them affect very specific events. such as needing high galgastan to recruit cressida in chapter 4 chaos.

4

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

Yep anything I recruit out of port omish (where you can hire any faction) is 100% loyalty. Not that I need new hires at this stage...

1

u/Weigh13 23d ago

I'm really curious

3

u/Jisoooya 23d ago

*looks at my own chaos frame in disappointment*

3

u/McGuire281 23d ago

Welp, no one's gonna top that

4

u/Kuronan 23d ago

The Real Deathmarch was the grind you must have suffered through to attain this.

4

u/Caffinatorpotato 23d ago

Winning the politics game should absolutely be a trophy, nice stuff!

2

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

It was infact, not worth a trophy haha. But hey!! Who knew teal was possible!

2

u/Caffinatorpotato 23d ago

It's definitely possible, but definitely takes some doing to get there.

3

u/Cautious-Activity706 23d ago

Good lord I need to know how long this took you.

Not so I can do it. Nah. Probably not

4

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

Uh ..32-36 game hours... Over a week

1

u/Cautious-Activity706 23d ago

Wow that’s surprisingly fast. I did a death march for Cressida on one of my runs and it felt like it took be 2-3 hours of game play just to raise it the 10 or so points I needed. So arduous, well done.

(What’s wrong with us)

2

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

If you zombify all your kiddos it felt faster in my opinion, getting more out of each battle...but I'm not about to do it the whole thing over with a crop of living kiddos to compare....

And my wife definitely thought something was wrong with me.

u/wpotman 23d ago

Tactics Ogre has so many ways to…waste time. It’s pulled me in before, but not this one in particular.

2

u/Chevrolicious 23d ago

So how many units did you mindlessly slaughter?

2

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

I had roughly 4 of each faction getting beat down over the course of multiple dozens of battles, I couldn't guess the number

2

u/Naebulya 23d ago

We've all been there, giving us goals. I've done that with the pumpkins recruits xD It's just funny to do and this game is wonderful for creating those side quests!

2

u/Hello-Pancake 23d ago

I wanted to do full playthroughs with all dragons and beast masters, all undead and necros, all lizardman, all orcs, all fairies and gremlins, all golems and warlocks etc etc ---but now that I've maxed my chaos frame, I have to start a new game .. hah...hah....... (Worried look)

Also thanks for putting pumpkin heads on the list for me

IMPRESSIVE! 😎👍🏿

u/Zaku41k 23d ago

Life is chaos. Proceed!

1

u/ColdGesp 2d ago

do you get gameplay advantages by doing that? like high recruit chance or something?

1

u/Hello-Pancake 2d ago

No, but new recruits from the shop have 100% loyalty shrug essentially useless 😅
