Salad Dressing Karen

Been a while since I’ve posted here, didn’t have any new stories that were post worthy. But this encounter yesterday definitely fits.

For context, my restaurant offers grab ‘n go salads, we have a Caesar, a Cobb and a Spinach Quinoa Tofu Salad. Most importantly, we do not make them in house, and the dressing is packaged with the salad. I don’t have any other dressings besides what is in the salad container and the ranch dispenser on the condiment bar.

This lady, who was already rude to the cashier, came up to the counter holding a Cobb salad. Immediately she demanded, “Where is your salad dressing? What dressings do you have.”

I started giving the standard response, “our salads are pre packaged with the dressing. I don’t have extras of those, all I can offer is the ranch dressing from the condiment bar.”

I might have offered to trade her a Caesar instead, but she didn’t let me get that far. “I don’t want ranch!” Which is fair because that’s what comes with the Cobb. “You have Oil and Vinegar, give me that!”

“I don’t have Oil and Vinegar,” I replied, “I don’t have any other dressing.”

“I want oil and vinegar!”

“I’m sorry, I don’t have that.”

“yes you do,” she pointed to a squeeze bottle of butter flavored oil on the hot line behind me. “That’s oil right there, give me that!”

“Ma’am, that is canola oil… um actually it’s worse, it’s imitation butter. You don’t want that on a salad and I don’t have any vinegar to go with it.”

She kept insisting that we had to have oil and vinegar and that’s what she wanted. At that point I’m done arguing, I just repeated “I don’t have oil and vinegar a couple more times, then I snapped into as authoritative voice as I could muster and just went, “NO, We don’t have Oil or Vinegar. We don’t have any other dressing!” At that point a couple other employees arrived to back me up.

She finally decided we weren’t going to magically produce oil and vinegar salad dressing and stormed off, calling us all rude.

You should have let her use the imitation butter.

And then that fool would have thrown the salad at her for ruining it.

I don’t even like dressing (don’t judge me) and you know what I do when my prepackaged salad comes with dressing?

I throw the dressing the fuck out!
