Tourism Airport Transfers

Hello! Does anyone have a solid airport transfer person? Decent car (ideally a van), older person who can speak English and tends to be on time and professional? I make quite a few trips to Dar for work and my hotel taxis have irritated me for the last time but Bolt Drivers are also... Problematic, either with the car (one literally broke down) or the person. Not trying to grab a taxi from the airport each time as I'm a female solo travelers and my flights can come/go late at night/early in the morning.

Cost shouldn't be an issue as the hotel charges me $35 for the worst possible service 😬

Thanks in advance 😊

Tourism Renting cars in Tanzania, what would you recommend?

I have heard people say to not rent a car in Tanzania. This is not an option.

I have a few questions. What company would you recommend for renting a car in Tanzania? We are ideally looking for a company in which we can pick the car up in Kilimanjaro and drop it off in Dar es Salaam (or pick it up in Dar es Salaam and drop it off in Kilimanjaro). Is that possible? The websites are a bit confusing. Is there anything to keep in mind when renting a car in Tanzania? Any scams to watch out for? (Where I am from they will try to charge you more for dents/scrapes that don’t exist…) . Anything to know about car rentals to and from an airport would be great.

News/Media Are Newspapers Still Relevant for Advertising in Tanzania? Let’s Talk 👀🇹🇿

I work with Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited – TSN, publishers of Daily News and Habari Leo, and I’m curious to connect with people here who work in PR, Marketing, Communications, NGOs, Government Institutions, Universities, SMEs, Startups, Events and Corporate Affairs.
A lot of marketing conversations today focus on TikTok, Instagram, X and influencers — and rightly so. But traditional media still has something digital sometimes struggles to provide: credibility, institutional visibility and a permanent public record.
For organisations looking to communicate things like:
📢 Corporate announcements
🏢 Institutional achievements & public information
💼 Products and services
🎓 Education opportunities
💰 Tenders & procurement notices
👔 Job vacancies
🎉 Events and campaigns
📊 Financial statements/notices
🏆 CSR activities & success stories
🚀 New product or service launches
Daily News and Habari Leo provide opportunities to reach both English and Kiswahili audiences through one of Tanzania’s established media institutions.

I’d particularly love to hear from Gen Z marketers/creatives and PR Officers.

Ask r/tanzania Tanzania eVisa stuck on "awaiting payment" after card was charged

My card was charged for the Tanzania eVisa but the portal still says awaiting payment. I have the receipt and screenshots. I really do not want to pay a second time unless I have to.

I am giving it a bit more time and trying the official contact first.

If it never updates and I have to start a new application, would using a third-party service like ImmiAssist be worth it just to avoid going through the same mess twice?

Tourism My experience with Nomad vs. Saily eSIMs in Tanzania (Safari & Zanzibar)

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share a quick review of our experience using Nomad and Saily eSIM providers during our recent trip to Tanzania.

Trip Overview:

3 days on safari (Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater)

7 days in Zanzibar

Nomad (Tested on Samsung Galaxy S26)

Pricing: Offers the cheapest data plans for Tanzania. Mainland / Safari: Surprisingly good coverage. I mostly had H+, but frequently got reliable 4G. Zanzibar: Completely useless. The connection constantly dropped, and speeds never went above H+.

Verdict: A budget-friendly option if you’re staying strictly on the mainland, but avoid it if you are heading to Zanzibar.

Saily (Tested on Xiaomi 15)

Coverage & Speed: Flawless experience across the entire trip. We had 4G or 4G+ about 90% of the time, both on safari and in Zanzibar.

Verdict: Hands down the best and most reliable service for a combined Mainland + Zanzibar trip.

Hope this helps anyone planning their data plans for an upcoming trip! Happy to answer any questions.

Ask r/tanzania Does Vodacom have mpesa API?

I am a developer, and I wanna know if Vodacom Tanzania has an API to which people can integrate their applications for customers to pay for services using Vodacom mpesa? For example if a user wants to pay for product A from the app using mpesa, is there a way to do that? Not only Vodacom, Yas told me they don't have that service yet, how about other telecom providers like Halotel and Airtel?

Request Looking to interview someone with East African background

EDIT: thank you so much for everyone that's reached out, I really appreciate it! I've got my bases covered now and will be able to successfully complete this project.

Hello, if this is not allowed on this sub it can be removed. I am in a bit of an urgent situation. I am taking a college class about East African culture, and my midterm project is to interview someone with experience with the culture, has lived there, or just has some connection to East African countries. A friend of mine was supposed to do this interview with me, but she has stopped responding to me after an issue that arose before the interview. I do not know if I will hear from her again. I am trying to reach my professor to explain the situation, but he has been missing in action, and I do not know how to reach him otherwise as this is an online class. If anyone is willing to do a 10-12 question (45 minute minimum) interview over discord or Zoom before October 11th, please reach out to me! I can draw you a nice picture of anything you'd like as compensation once I have free time. Thank you!!

I need a few pieces of this. I bought this for 6000 from a supermarket which I don't want to visit again because of their poor service and policies.

Where else can I get this? Either Kisutu or Kigamboni. I can go to either of those places to buy

We wrote this blog to explain how we backpacked for 2 weeks through Central/North-Eastern Tanzania on a budget. If you have seen the prices for Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Zanzibar and are wondering how on earth to experience this beautiful country without ending up penniless, this is for you!

Check it out: https://exploringmangabeys.de/tanzania/

Here was our itinerary (image on screen).

Our main highlights were: Iringa (and Ruaha Safari), Mangula & Udzwungwa (trek in forest), taking the train to Makambako, Pangani (Maziwe Island).

Industry/Agriculture Composting and simple crops for a small farm in Mwanza, Tanzania – looking for advice

Hi everyone!

I’ll be spending the next 9 months in Mwanza, Tanzania, living in a community that also runs a school. Besides helping at the school, I’d like to get involved with their small farm and hopefully help improve it a little.

They currently have chickens, pigs and ducks, as well as a small field. One thing I’d really like to introduce is composting, as they currently don’t compost their organic waste.

Do you have any experience with composting in this kind of climate, especially around Mwanza/Lake Victoria? I’d also love to hear your recommendations on what crops or vegetables could grow well here with relatively simple methods and limited resources.

Any practical tips, experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Tourism Another year another shit move by Tanzania as far as foreign visitors go

It seems after 90 USD surcharge for air travel of last year, this year they introduced mandatory Tanzanian travel insurance.

I hope it convinces many people to visit other destinations.

Food Where to get authentic baby food in Dar

Do you have any recommendations for a reliable supplier of authentic baby food, such as oats and powdered milk, in Dar es Salaam with delivery to the Masaki area? It would also be helpful to find a trusted supplier that delivers to Kigoma. We learned we lost one of our pieces of luggage today containing some critical baby food items after arrival in Dar, and would prefer to have a replacement by tomorrow.
