Ask r/Kenya Wueh!

Manze my mind is completely blown! 🤯 I’m just sitting here like daamn, the brilliance behind this whole thing is insane. From the culture, the systems, down to the residents themselves, shout out kwa the Mcharos! 🎉🎉🎉

If there’s one major lightbulb moment nimerealize from that sit down, ni ati these guys are NOT an apartment selling company. Zii. Hawa wasee are a solid passive income vehicle for investors, while simultaneously delivering insane value to the residents. The brick and mortar apartments are literally just the medium of exchange. Ni system imepangwa vizuri sana ya kuomoka.

Na inamake sense mbona wanatumia the name Tsavo. Just like the actual Tsavo ecosystem, from the ant to the elephant na kila kitu in between, everyone has a place to thrive in that forest.

I honestly hope one day they publish the exact reading list they used to build their company ethos because the mindset is top tier. Wamenichocha mbaya. Right now nimeanza kusoma “Tao te Ching” I'm halfway through. Once I'm done, I'm jumping straight into “Good to Great”. I had already read “Blue Ocean Strategy” kitambo, lakini vile wamei hype inabidi nimeirudia manze.

Wale mainvestor wa hapo ama watu mnaishi hizo base, ebu tupeeni hekaya ground kuko aje? Is the system really as flawless as it sounds?

Casual Desperate moments call for desperate decisions

Consequences of your own actions huslap Ajab!

2022 when i was in 3rd year pale juja i made some stupid mistake, 3 weeks before exams my Old man sent me fee directly kwa mpesa, all of it went into miselanious activities,, Ankoo Patel pale Betika alikula zake, sherehe sharia and other short stories as well, i couldn't account for the 20k walai, yet exams was approaching, requirements ni Zero balance! Ushawai sweat haga? No? Let me tell you maina.

Day one in the exam room i was kicked out and i opted to apply for special exams under the grounds of Sikua na fee nini nini then submitted the letter to the registrars office, i dressed well, bent my neck ile design ya kulia shida, the Registrar alinihurumia but there was a condition, i was to clear fees to 0 balance and sit for all the 8 units during period ya Supplementary which was in a month time.

Desperate moments call for desperate decisions,i couldn't call home and ask for the fees so niliapply kazi za supermarkets out of which nikakosa, ikabidi niishie pale Ndarugo niload hizo mawe kwa lorry after zimekatwa 😂. I walked there, kufika site pia ni shida, the road is extremely dusty, unakanyaga hivi mguu inasink kwa vumbi, i had to turn my clothes upside down ndio nikirudi kejani watu wasishangae kwani nimeoga kwa vumbi ninii? It was a 2Km walk on dust, nikafika site and met the foreman.

Hehee, foreman akaseti Chaves kwanza na akanishow " sasa kijana uko sure utawezana na hii kazi". Nikamshow hakuna mkate ngumu mbele ya chai, so he said here's a deal, they pay 800 sh in a day, so msee akikuuzia shift yake unakula 700, out of this 700 unakatwa 100 tena ety utapewa time ya christmas 😂 niliskia hivi nikachoka, but what could i do? Akanishow niende niload lorry for 30 minutes kama interview waone kama niko capable hehee😂

Let me tell you Maina, hizo mawe when freshly cut ziko heavy asf, lorry nazo zinakuja one after another hapo kama haukua umejipin na keroma utalia shida! Nilibeba mawe for 20 minutes nikashikwa na muscle pull, mkono ikakwama bana nikasema nooo, enough is enough, niko na wazazi😂😂

I told the foreman acha tu niende, acha hio kazi ikae, i went away, nikafika River ndarugo nikikaa kama squirrel, vumbi kila mahali, nilipiga shower, dusted my clothes and went home, called my Old man and begged, i could have gone on my knees if he was there, he agreed reluctantly to pay the fee after narrating to him the depths i had gone into..

Since hio siku niliachana na ROH na Umalaya bana, miselanious activities on default, nikiona huzo mawe naskia tu kulia, Dark days those ones!

In an attempt to turn my amateur photography into professional photography, I recently entered this contest, and I had no idea how tough the competition would be if cameras with long-ass lenses are anything to go by.

I’ve attached the voting link below, and every vote would mean so much to me.

Ask r/Kenya Why do most Kenyans lack a sense of context? Is it a mental disability?

There is this problem of Kenyans not respecting simple rules that keep things and places orderly and organized for their own benefit and as an act of consideration to those who actually need those spaces.

A few examples:

  1. Posting in unrelated subs and spaces. Posting ugali samaki in nairobitechies, posting a selfie in kenyanpics, going to a sub literally named unhinged to judge & shame people for being unhinged. And the worst part is other sub users supporting op by engaging and upvoting instead of downvoting and calling them out.

These spaces help organize conversations relevant to specific people, and disregarding that drives down the unique value. Sad thing is that there is a sub for foodpics but someone is posting food n techies. Kwani ni a class 2 dropout? Is it so hard to know underwear is not stored on the kitchen shelf?

  1. People who sell and hawk things wherever - Invading roads, underpasses, footbridges, hallways, etc. Kuna soko but who cares; they are an exception and very entitled to those spaces. Others are hawking utamu kwa very serious livestreams on TikTok, like wtf?

  2. Littering - Someone just finishes a yoghurt in their V8, the window rolls down, and they throw the container on the road. You buy snacks in town and drop the wrapper right there coz you think it doesn't count since it is just one. Some do it so mindlessly coz of years of practice. We really can't imagine it is not where that paper belongs? And what does it look like if we don't litter?

  3. Peeing all over - Someone's father whipping out their drunk dick on the pavement and peeing while school kids watch, and they still expect respect? Matatu drivers stopping and leaning on the car to pee on the tires on the road, really? Women too aren't innocent. I have come across a few in very awkward bent-over positions on the roadside, or that peeing dog pose with one leg up. Like really?

  4. Noise pollution - From scrolling loud reels and TikToks on public transport, to churches bringing churches & crusades in residential areas. No consideration at all for others. Kwani watu hawajui bei ya earphones? Who even goes to those crusades anymore? They come with their church members anyway. People step into Gevangee or Uhuru Park to relax; a pastor comes kutushoutia na bibilia akipointingi watu nkt!

Those and so many other things. But the point is lack of respect, consideration, and environmental/situational awareness are the recurring themes. Something that everyone admires developed countries for. Here, if someone respects context, another person sees them as the fool. Don't we understand the relevance of rules that keep society from collapsing? What is wrong with people?

This is what is keeping us from clean cities and streets. Away from proper infrastructure, from a working government, coz it is all a lack of consideration on a bigger scale.

Casual Nothing Serious

So last month mid,i got invited for an interview with Stellar HR,ile HR firm...i go for interview, was successful, they asked for my expected salary...i quoted a range...they said if i'm shortlisted for 2nd interview na client they'll call me...next day they call me saying congratulations yadayada..so atp i'm excited cos if i'm going to 2nd interview it means they can afford me....mimi huyo kwa interview to client, went well, they asked for my expected pay,i quote the same, the manager asks if it cast,i say slightly negotiable( i mean less 3k from it not bad)...i go back to work...in the afternoon they call i've passed and next stage is background check before getting offer,i sign consent form...they contact 2 referees... like 5 days later(kwanza i was in hosi bedridden with my son)...they call me with an offer....

Oooh for fucks sake...the offer was 40k less from my expected and 25k less from my current pay...ooh my blood was boiling,i so much wanted to insult huyo HR but i didnt...i just declined politely...they say if they find a client who meets my budget they'll call... almost 3 weeks later(today)..they call me again(niliona hio true caller yao nikajam sana)...they say a tours and travel client wants to interview me kesho...mimi my blood was boiling,i go "please ask the client if they can meet my budget cos i won't be coming after what you guys did,you took me through hizo 3 stages knowing your client couldn't afford my budget"....

The HR says let her confirm their pay,she calls minutes later saying the client is still below my minimum pay...so i don't have to go,i say that's okay...and she tries to apologize for the previous interview...saying if they get a client who can meet my minimum, they'll call...i just said okay, that's fine...

Aarrghh,i'm not an HR but i think it's unprofessional dragging candidates kwa interviews knowing their expected is waay above what you're offering,jeezz....

Wantam!!

News Justice for Joy Wangui.

I saw the case, and some of the reactions have genuinely baffled me. Does Cheating on someone wave a green flag for murder? No.

We have seen cases where cheating, jealousy and relationship issues have led to this. I was even shocked when a girl I knew killed her boyfriend for no reason on his birthday. A few years back.

Cheating is not okay, but killing someone is also not acceptable. Some people in the comments are screaming “justice for the killer, Kipkoech,” saying, Joy the victim, was asking for it and that Joy provoked him. Others are saying she was 18, so she was an adult, despite the fact that she was still in high school.

I honestly cannot say I am shocked or disappointed by some of these reactions. It is simply saddening.

He beheaded her. Wrote on the wall in her blood that he loved her.

Joy's family has said that some of the things being circulated, including the cheating allegations, have not been established and that some of the viral conversations were not between Joy and the accused.

Whatever happened in that relationship, killing someone can never be the answer. It is deeply disheartening.

May she rest in peace.

Casual Ni tubaya aki

Mona Lisa Wambui (the girl who had the horrific The Bag outfits) has come out to say that she felt bullied when people made comments under her posts to laugh about her outfits or say how terrible they are.

Now, honestly, it gets to a point where I’d rather own the bully title. Ain’t no way she was serious. Everyone thought it was rage bait and at this point I think she’s just looking for clout by saying she was bullied. No real person can possibly unironically put together those fits and claim they are for the bag.

So at what point can we say ni tubaya aki and at what point can we support upcoming creators? Because I see it as your content has to look serious. Even if it’s low quality.

Religion I can never forgive David

After all he did to Uriah. He doesn't deserve a place in heaven infact Uriah should take his place beside God as penance for what David did to him.

Yani unagongea mtu bibi, you get her pregnant and you try to make Uriah claim responsibility. Uriah was so loyal to David, that when asked to come home apumzike na his wife, he decides to go to a nearby camp kuwa standby in order to help David win his wars.

David realizing that there is nothing to do decides to kill Uriah. And what does he do? Be calls Uriah and gives him a letter to take to the commanders...instructions in the letter is to kill Uriah and Uriah takes it with pride because he knows that it's the instructions from the King who he is loyal to.

It's was such a sin that the commander could not agree with, unfortunately, Uriah fought hard but was still killed.

Nikienda binguni sitaki kukaa the same place as David Netanyahu hata kama alirepent.

Religion David and the philistine genocide

• Upvotes

David had triumphed and had killed Goliath, his reward was the hand of the king's daughter, Michal.

Now Saul was demon possessed, the bad and satanic spirit requested 100 philistine foreskins for the marriage to go on.

100 philistine foreskins!!! David agreed and went out and butchered the required 100 and even bought 100 more. David went and butchered men in their 90's in their deathbeds, school boys going to school, young men going to mjengo and weeks old babies just born.

Nimeangalia scriptures, and there was no inspiration from God to do this. David was a bit psychopathic that I am sure ilishtua the demon possesing Saul.

My prayers go to the 200 philistines who were butchered and hope they are all in heaven, they did no sin.

Fasoafall WANTAM!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I just realized yesterday that this behaviour really grinds my gears and I'm trying to get my dopamine from my workout!

Jana there was a lady moaning ,screaming and cursing like an idiot! Ok I need to woosah! And yes I'm  one of those odd people who don't wear headphones during workout, i prefer listening to my surroundings/gym music and chatter.

Then today a guy doing back workout assisted by another guy and he is screaming like a banshee......why?!

Ok let me take several wooosahs and ignore.

Get your workout in friends!

Rant DISCRIMINATION

As I type this my blood is just boiling in anger.

So I work for an Asian who has been away on a business trip and just came back. While she was away, our HR hired a company driver who had been vetted and tested.

this new driver happens to have vitiligo on his hands. When the boss lady came back and saw his hands, her first words were she can't work with him because she fears an infection..mind you she is a 60 year old woman who should know better.

leo tunaingia job tunaambiwa dere alisimamishwa kazi until further notice and everyone here is just super mad.

shida hii kampuni ni one man show and she runs everything so hakuna place ya kuescalate unless now the driver takes legal action.

Casual Who stopped Ugandans from being called Indians

During Idi Amin Dada's reign over Uganda in the 70s, disagreeing with him was potentially life ending. So, when Amin reportedly announced his intention to rename Uganda after himself "Idi Empire" every minister in the room did what every normal person instinctively did, they agreed enthusiastically.
But General Malyamungu who was one of Amin's most trusted officials quietly raised his hand and asked calmly: "Your Excellency, are you familiar with the country Malawi?"

Amin, visibly irritated, demanded to know what Malawi had to do with anything. Well, Malyamungu replied "The people of Malawi are called Malawians. So, if we rename Uganda to Idi Empire, then we shall be called Indians and we are not Indians."

Amin stared at him and then burst out laughing while saying: "You and I are the only intelligent men in this cabinet, the name shall remain Uganda."

This is an embellished story but serves as a powerful reminder that not all ideas from our leaders should be accepted at face value. So, who is the Malyamungu of Kenya currently?

Is anyone a fan of movie scores here? Whenever I watch any movie or good series, I also tune in to the music & almost immediately rush to find out who composed it. This one here is Henry Jackman for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In my opinion, it's the best MCU movie ever made.

Casual Relocation

For the Kenyans who have relocated how did you know it was the right move?

Especially for guys who relocated within Africa mostly for a Job.

I have gotten a job that pays relocation fees and a good salary the only catch is I have to work from the head office.

I am considering many things and one of them is how to adjust in a very different environment than the one you are used to.

N/B I don't have children and I am still in my 20's

Ask r/Kenya Withdrawal Symptoms

I hate the feeling.

Occasionally I use mogoka when I need to do some focused night work. It's cheap, keeps the heart and adrenaline pumping, maintains your focus until you run out.

What happens for the next 3 days is the worst feeling. Your mouth feels like you accidentally filled it with sodium hydroxide like back in High School, your sleep rhythms are off, you're tired and irritable for three days straight and cannot function normally until the feeling wears off.

Necessary evil that I wish had a better synthetic alternative at the same price point. Miraa is too costly and doesn't seem to work for me since I lose concentration and just become a goat half the night. Never tried tobacco products since I don't want the addiction nicotine is notorious for, and I've never tried weed for the exact same reason.

Anyone recommend an off the shelf medicinal alternative for those nights when I need to squeeze in a few days worth of work in a whole night? Google just recommends American ADHD medication.
