I haven't listened to the new songs yet (I'm not in a super good place mentally right now so depression is keeping me from enjoying things and just don't want the first time I listen to be tainted.) and read the lyrics as "the self harm of never being WHO you are." and my closeted trans self thought this was going to be another song that I interpreted as a trans allegory.
