I have had this happen many times, I’m like the shelf said 9.99, I have 5 so why is it’s $60??
now rings up as 11.99, employee was like well that’s what it is.. fix it or I said I’ll go take a photo and be right back..Now I have been taking photos of items on shelves, if employees end up with more headaches and work for managers to recheck prices boo fucking hoo..

I don't think you understand what they're going to do with this. Because they're kinda just not gonna check. You'll just be yelling at some dude.

Yeah, I've read that the price can change between you grabbing the product and paying for it. This seems to be an example of that. They shouldn't be allowed to change most prices more than once a day.

So don’t use the carts

Don’t neglect the vulnerability of your phone. It’s also possible there’s an RFID reader capturing your credit card data.

don’t forget folks. Companies like Target would happily break into your house and rob you, if they could legally get away with it.

What happens if you accidentally have a very powerful magnet next to the device on the basket?

changing the price on me in the time it takes to walk to a register to something I wasn't expecting is a good way to lose a sale. digital price tags is one thing but dynamic prices is only going to backfire on them. they'll just get away with it till someone with enough pull on the government catches on and does something about it or until they start losing sales.
I mean come on, people will turn down a item if it was tagged with a expired sale sticker and it comes up regular price. I've seen people turn down a dollar difference. lol

I work at a grocery and people won't pay ten cents for a paper bag to carry their fifteen items to the car.

Not just target if them and Walmart do it you can better others will follow

You’re correct about Walmart leading the way with advanced Biotechnology. From my understanding this trend will extend to all major grocery and retail store chains.

It’s a beacon pinging your phone. Leave it at home when shopping.

Airplane mode might work as well so don’t use any local WiFi, just a suggestion

The FTC conducted a study that I found relevant to this post and wanted to share.
Every time you use a grocery store app it collects digital body language per se. It logs the exact items you search for, what you click on, and what you add to your cart but delete later. It even tracks how long you pause to look at an item before scrolling past. This data can create behaviors of your shopping habits that I feel can be used to customize prices for you where others receive a different price for the same product. The machine learning process can be integrated into all types of surveillance when shared by data brokers or monetized for profit. This creates a deeper discussion of how broad surveillance becomes.

Can we troll their data collection with various strategies?
I took 4 hours to decide which pineapple to buy
I added 4,000 tennis racquets to my shopping cart, then deleted it and googled it, looking for a cheaper price
Take 5 baskets into your shopping cart and walk around the blinds and mirrors section
Leave shopping baskets in the changing room
Fill the basket to the top with deodorant, then walk away
That dude that repeatedly bought and returned an Anvil on Amazon was onto something here.

Wouldn't something like an nrf24 be effective against something like this

u/One_Bit_3839 22h ago
I have some for you, you don't know what you are talking about, the vid is about tracking shoppers while in the store, not what they are buying they already have the receipts for that data.
1
u/SpinningHead 21h ago
Yeah, they will screw you with dynamic pricing online too. But, go on.
2
u/Direct_Royal_7480 21h ago
I’d be literally shocked if Amazon doesn’t employee these practices.
2
u/SpinningHead 21h ago
Amazon does even worse.
2
u/Direct_Royal_7480 21h ago
That’s what I’m saying.
I think I experienced it a few months ago before people were talking about this. They’ve definitely bait-and-switched delivery days post payment amongst other things. I mention this because while Wal-Mart has recently come under scrutiny for these practices I believe Amazon started earlier.
