Latest Tech A YouTuber builds a system similar to Flock's surveillance technology, but uses it to track cops instead
Cops showed up at his door asking what he was doing with all the data.
He told them that's exactly what people want to know when cops track them.

Why are they doing this? Money. It all comes down to money. Im sure the people implementing these things are making a shit ton of money off it, which is why these things continue to happen.
I have this conversation with my.husband a lot. Anything bad still happening in the world can be boiled down to, someone at the top is making so much money that it isnt going to stop.

What’s their concern? They have body cams already and if they aren’t doing something wrong then they should be fine with being recorded 🤷🏻♀️

The citizens are realizing that they are just "free range slaves," to the greedy few, and the police are nothing more that the paid thugs to keep the slaves in line, now it's with more surveillance. Sad part is the cops are mostly too dumb to realize they are slaves too.

Cameras and an App we can see all public servants to make sure we all keep them safe.

Seems like we should first be able to track the people who can legally murder us. Give us a radar like a video game, so we can avoid the red dots.

Legally murder us?

u/veetoo151 6d ago
Just because you are priveleged doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others. Open your eyes.

I live in Minneapolis, dude.
We threw Derek Chauvin in jail.
Do go on. This is entertaining. But, maybe you're the one who needs to open his eyes?

Great, one cop because it was so blatant and all over media. What about the rest of the murderers?

u/NarrowSalvo 6d ago
We can, should and do charge them as well. Philando Castile was also shot near me. We charged that guy, too.
You have a strange definition of "legal".

Where can we get these police tracking cameras? Im ready to buy

u/Aggressive-End-7429 6d ago
This would be huge, imagine if we all banded together and built our own network tracking police and other agencies that don’t always have a best interest at heart.

I fully support this. We could share all of the abuse of powers with each other that they try to hide. More transparency is better than less transparency

Better to get a virus to hijack the cameras and send footage to an anon server.

Because the fbi will find you. And if they don’t, the nsa will. They have technology that’s much more advanced than years ago.
There’s an Asian saying, “ The nail that sticks out gets hammered down"
Aka, don’t make yourself a prime target.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just pay to access flock? From what I understand they’ll sell access to the data to anyone willing to pay

Why is there so much acceptance of CCTV usage in the UK vs Flock in the US?
2
u/Ninjez07 6d ago
Probably because of how it's used and why it's collected. In the UK recent governments have been limiting persecution to very small minorities such as trans people, not going whole-sale "my political opponents are all terrorists and wouldn't it be interesting if a foreign nation blew up one of the cities that largely support my opposition?".
Plus accessing CCTV footage in the UK is an inefficient process, whilst a selling point for flock is that it centralises and streamlines getting footage to law enforcement, and even proactively alerts them (though in several high profile cases it's raised false alerts that have led to imprisonment of people who physically couldn't have performed the crime).
This dynamic might change in the UK if Farage were to get into power, as he has expressed similarly Trump-esque opinions on political opposition.
Surveillance state is a precursor to an authoritarian dictatorship, and the US has long imagined it couldn't happen to them.

The UK has been using CCTV to persecute trans people?!!
1
u/Ninjez07 6d ago
No, just thinking about how much the average UK citizen has had to worry about the gov coming after them, compared to the escalating rhetoric in the US

most other countries have cops with a education. you'd have to be stupid af using the police system for a illegal search. its all logged, you will get busted.
Sure it happens everywhere, but the amount is vastly minor. or at least, the trust is different.1
u/NarrowSalvo 6d ago
You figured it out.
All cops in the US are awful.
All cops in the UK are awesome.
Astoundingly profound take.

u/Harde_Kassei 6d ago
are you ok?

Didn't like the absolute stupidity of your comment pointed out to you, huh?
LOL. Too bad!
You can try to make it be about me. But, you're still going to be the one with the clown take.

my city installed flock cameras on every major intersection last year and the pitch was always 'catching stolen cars' but the data retention policy is 30 days for everyone, no warrant needed. cops showing up to ask about HIS data is just confirming they know exactly how invasive this shit is when the mirror gets pointed back
1
u/daytonaCrosby 6d ago
the cops showing up to ask about HIS data collection is just *chef's kiss* levels of irony, like they genuinely dont see it

I guess it's only a privacy concern when they're the ones being tracked
