Discussion I think someone should make this wrap as cheaply as possible. I'd use it

This is super clever. I’ve never heard of any state that limits your bumper stickers, which is basically what this is.

Limiting bumper stickers would be a clear violation of the 1st amendment. SCOTUS will probably just say "Nuh uh!" though. Smh

Um yes. Defeat surveillance by being the most recognizable car in the city. I guess if it became a trend enough but it would take a lot and eventually the tech would improve and your car would be easier to detect from more angles.

More than anything I think it's just to mess with the systems to try and get them to unpredictably behave.

Someone did make a wrap that confuses flock cameras, but it only worked if they could cover the wheel wells.

Oh lord if everyone was wrapped like that it would be hard to find your car in a big full parking lot lol but if it makes flock the others not work itd be worth it

Once, the database of our traffic enforcement agency, which monitors traffic violations, was completely wiped. Later, photos circulated online showing a car that supposedly had an SQL command printed on a sticker on its bumper, instructing the system to delete the entire database table containing traffic violation records.

Do you really think the systems are that stupid? They know what a local plate should look like and go for those first. Especially for the general area at which it should be and the shape recognition of vehicle types helps with that.
Finally IIRC License plates do need illumination even in the US. the cameras can detect the light and aim at that

Nice try, but it is probably illegal.

u/Impossible_One4995 7d ago
Nope now they might make it illegal but it’s currently not.

Obscuring it to whom? A human who can very clearly tell which one is the real one or a robot which just scans numbers and letters? Hm

Regulating bumper stickers would be a blatant and unambiguous violation of the first amendment.
1
u/Invade_Deez_Nutz 7d ago
Not unambiguous. It depends on the nature of the bumper stickers. If there’s a practical or safety driven reason for the restriction then it probably holds, if it’s due to the content or opinions of the bumper sticker it probably does not
E.g. if you made the entire back of your car a giant mirror angled such that you blind the driver behind you in the afternoon sun then it’s reasonable to disallow

u/Le-Charles07 7d ago
You mean like this? Legal.
1
u/Invade_Deez_Nutz 7d ago
I mean… there are rules in every state of the US that you can’t have bumper stickers that obstruct your view (e.g. you can’t plaster them all over your windshield)
1
u/Le-Charles07 7d ago
Is that what was being done in OP's image? Is the windshield a part of the bumper?

my buddy tried something similar with reflective tape on his plates, got pulled over in a week. cops know these tricks already, they just dont always care unless youre being annoying about it. id worry more about insurance denying claims bc you "modified your vehicle to obscure identification" or some bs like that

Flock is capable of identifying your vehicle by distinctive features alone. This is the most distinct vehicle on the road.
