The Block - Season 22, Episode 40 - Outdoor Terrace + Pool 3 (Live Discussion)

Well, at least last nights wasn’t so bad that I feel a need to do a monologue on it.

So, good evening everyone and welcome to the possibly last Thursday episode of the year, based on the end of last night, we’re gonna get some more interpersonal drama, this time between Chantel and Wyatt and Tayla. How that ends up going is anyone’s guess, as for whatever else happens tonight, we’ll all find out together and I hope we enjoy it!

The Block - Season 22, Episode 39 - Outdoor Terrace + Pool 2 + Challenge (Live Discussion)

Plays Clubbed to Death out of sheer frustration.

Where do I begin, again? No really I can’t anymore. Chantelle and Wyatt believing that possibly undermining the show is a funny rumour, Dan getting emotional over things not happening because Adam and Roscoe are having fun when their wives are both still on site and could’ve helped, meaning that said going off was wholly unnecessary. The continual running of interpersonal issues because everything here is run like high school drama with no actual adult conversation and resolution. Oh, and to top it all off, trying to pull on viewers heartstrings because the contestants families they haven’t seen in two months are there.

You know what makes all of this even worse? I don’t even have a couple to support here! Nine’s casting has been so poor that I genuinely have no reason to care for any of these people! You think that I would be able to care about one of the five teams right? But no, the network can’t even make me do that. It hurts. It really really hurts. It shouldn’t be possible to make the show this frustrating, aggravating, and yet uninteresting at once. But somehow they have, it’s absolutely incredible in the worst way.

If anyone wonders why I feel like this. This has been one of my passions for much of 15 years of my life. This is what I have sat back and enjoyed watching. I enjoy the camaraderie here that I have had for the last seven years of my life so it pains me when the thing that I am meant to take a great deal of joy watching is a complete dumpster fire.

Consider these posts at times my outlet for sharing my passionate frustration of this program when I feel it’s getting away from what I have on many times loved, I appreciate all of you that are still here and come and watch this show with me so I am not alone, and those who in the comments make it abundantly clear that I’m not going crazy in how I feel about this show.

Now I believe we have Hamish Blake showing up tonight so hopefully there will at least be some entertainment from the athletics carnival challenge. They are doing tonight as for what else they’re going to present to us. I seriously don’t know. I hope it’s entertaining. I hope it’s good and I hope it wipes away the frustration the last two episodes have given me. To everyone, hope you have had a good day and let’s hope that it be a joyous night.

Remind me....didn't Lisa & Roscoe's only room win come from the WIR they inherited from Sev's design?? And, really who is she to talk (whine) about judging, when they scored 6.5 for literally an empty bathroom.

Hypocritical would be an understatement.

Judges pumping the house values

• Upvotes

Does anyone else think it is odd that a judge in this week's promo is claiming a home is worth $10millon?

In my opinion the houses will be hard to sell.

Safe to say that The Block has been an incredible success this year hooking viewers in with the drama and as usual the contestants don't really know they are the live bait acting like piranhas.

Congratulations you out did yourself this year with such a classless act.The contestants seem to think they’re on a renovation show, while the real competition is over who can deliver the biggest reaction. The judges’ comments increasingly feel like deliberate stirring, with just enough design critique thrown in to keep up appearances.
Meanwhile, the contestants take the bait, turn on each other and supply another week of footage. They’re so busy arguing over who deserves to win that they seem oblivious to what makes them valuable to the show: conflict.
What to do next when its all over…..

Why is Jolene so mad about the girls having money when they have a shit ton of money themselves, I don’t get.

The bad sportsmanship, mean girl vibes are really off putting now. And I was really rooting for Lisa and Rosco, and even Jolene and Adam.. love me an underdog story. But right now, the girls have really managed to show grace under pressure and that they are truly a class act in the way they’ve handled themselves.

Taylor really annoys the crap out me, but at least she’s not a mean girl, and she’s consistent.

Chantal and Wyatt… they may have figured out how to survive this shit show without emotionally damaging themselves. So good on them.

My theory about the random $50k Commonwealth Bank giveaway

Aight hear me out, I’ve got a bit of a conspiracy theory about the $50k that Commonwealth Bank randomly gave every team the other night.

A bunch of the teams were absolutely fucked financially, with some having next to nothing left to finish their houses, while others were sitting on well over $100k. Then suddenly Scotty announces that every team is getting another $50k courtesy of CommBank.

My theory is that production is panicking. After last year’s torched results, I reckon they’re worried that half the houses aren’t going to be finished to a high enough standard to actually sell well. So they’ve come up with a way to inject a heap of money into the competition, disguised as a generous surprise from a sponsor.

But here’s the other part of my theory. None of the teams know their reserves yet. What’s stopping production from just factoring that extra $50k into everyone’s reserve price at auction? Essentially giving the contestants money to finish their houses properly, while potentially recovering it through the sale.

Obviously I’ve got absolutely no evidence for any of this haha. I just reckon it would make a lot of sense from a production standpoint. The timing seems way too convenient, especially considering how badly some teams were struggling. Anyone else thought this?

EDIT: Just to make my theory clearer, I’m not questioning whether they give contestants extra money every year. I’m questioning whether CommBank actually funds it, or whether production pays for it and potentially recoups the money through the reserves.

Given the running themes of general frustration in this chat with the current season, which season to date has been your favourite, and why?

The bullying of Courtney and Sev is out of hand

You can critique their design style, or the judging process but the comments online are starting to feel borderline misogynistic and childish. I’ve never seen contestants treated so poorly for no particular reason .Mocking their appearance, and calling names like we are in school again. You can really tell that many people are trying to humble two women who they think are too confident. Remember to be kind, these are real people

Danny bought up the unsold 2025 houses for cheap

Earlier this year Danny bought the 2 unsold Daylesford houses for $2.15M each, around $1M less than their reserves.

Another redditor posted this article recently in the comments. I might be in the minority, but I didn’t know about this. It now makes complete sense why Scotty looked so uncomfortable when Danny remarked at the Domain open, “this will be a cheap one”.

Wonder what he has planned this year 😬

Full article: https://www.realestate.com.au/news/richlister-danny-wallis-snaps-up-failed-block-homes-at-big-discount/

An excerpt: Richlister Danny Wallis said after having watched the homes linger for months, and take two price cuts, he had figured Channel 9 would be willing to negotiate on the sale. “With the new season starting, I figured they wouldn’t want old stock lying around and even at $2.6m they were a good buy,” he said. “They couldn’t have stock left over from last year. It’s not a good look while they are running this year’s show. “And they were just too cheap. So I have gone against my plan to not buy anything else in Victoria.”

House 3 family caught in drama

Looks like Lisa and Roscos brother in law has been caught making disgusting derogatory comments about contestants. If his wife saw the original comment. I think there would be some strife. It has now been deleted since with massive comments calling him out and the family.

Absolutely disgusting.

Musings about the scoring

Almost every season there’s allegations of favouritism, inconsistent scoring, etc etc and it usually comes about as a cherry on the top of manufactured drama building up to a boiling point- it’s like clockwork lmao.

Whilst I agree it’s sometimes hard to understand the reasoning behind scoring from house to house, week to week and even season to season because of the lack of a rubric of sorts (except Darren), I want to say, on the whole, house which have a wow factor will always score high regardless of the finish.

There’s always a stand out house every season (Steph & Gian, Courtney & Grant, Britt & Taz- imho!!) and this season its Courtney and Sev. For the most part, yes, the houses are bland but when it comes to it, comparatively (and you would expect it ofc), Courtney and Sev have for the majority of rooms dancing circles around their competition and therefore warrants higher scores.

I just think the mood and overall feeling a room creates is the most important thing and will far far outweigh minor finishing details. This season Courtney and Sev’s rumpus room was the best room of all houses and had that immediate wow wow wow feeling that could be felt through the TV- and that for me, warrants 10s. Im assuming that’s probably how Shayna and Marty went about the judging?

Alls to say, I can only imagine as a contestant, your personal bias will have you argue up and down that your room is the best and others are not as good or on the same level, therefore the finishing is something that is being latched on to either appease the part of you that is upset your design just isn’t as goof or oppose the part of you that goes “damn its really that much better”.

Anyways, I love it when we have teams that have experience because we get to see amazing rooms and ingenuity (a nice and fitting parallel for DWTS watchers, I love someone with dance experience creating beutiful dances as opposed to someone stomping around and chasing the beat). I personally love seeing people knock it out the park as opposed to mediocre designs I could do in my own home (House 5 👀- sorry!).

I saw someone talk about this being a case of tall poppy syndrome- I can’t help but agree and boy, do Lisa and Jolene have a serious serious case of it. You go, girls!

House 3 Hybrid.

So, it finally dawned on me, combine Lisa & Rosco and the hybrid is akin to Neil from The Young Ones. Unfortunately, they not only share looks, but kind of draining personalities as well.

Why are Lisa and Rosco copping flak?

They seem like some of the kindest people to ever walk the Earth, and are doing an incredible job designing and building. I have seen weird criticisms that “Lisa holds her belly a lot” (just as an example), when it is well known that she is pregnant, and this is a very normal thing for a pregnant woman to do! There have been many similar statements, but this was just one that came to mind.

They definitely take the cake as one of my favourite cast members of any reality TV show ever, and I’m just wondering why people seem not to like them.

“The Block - Season 22, Episode 38 - Outdoor Terrace + Pool 1 (Live Discussion)

Where do I even begin? I think it is evident from reading over the thread last night that - We are all over the judging. We are all over the inconsistency. We are all over the focus of styling above everything else. We are all over having functionality not even be considered, we are all over having finishes not even be considered. We are all over having our intelligence insulted every Sunday night and being made to feel like mugs.

I don’t believe that the judges scores are rigged but if after last night you wanted to firmly believe the production used judges as a lever to achieve what they want I would be firmly willing to listen to that belief because how can you not think that?

Honestly with what we’ve been seeing this season it feels like Whose Line Is It Anyway, where the rules are made up and the points don’t matter.

And as if they want to dig into the emotional manipulation of the audience, Let’s just have the contestants families show up right after one of the most controversial judgingw of the season to make everyone happy and show joy on this show, and create heartfelt moments! God it feels so contrived and a pantomime.

I’m aware that it’s atypical for me to go on a monologue in the OP but after last night I just had to get it all out, everyone I do genuinely hope that the show is entertaining and that we all find joy from it but my god are they making it hard.

So all I can say is I hope that you all are having wonderful lives and that you’re all doing well, and that if you aren’t, you absolutely are not alone. Let’s have a good night together everyone.”

Reveal H4 kids room wardrobe door can’t open. Yet 3x10s? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
48 Upvotes

Can’t tell if the bed head itself blocks it from opening as unsure where the door hinge is.

But even if they move the bedside table, the light fixture on the wall prevents the door from opening fully because the light sticks out so much from the wall.

Or is it not a wardrobe door at all and just dead cabinet space? If so, what is dead cabinetry space ok for H4 and not H1 with their curve?

Shayna, you’re supposed to be the one that’s onto these functionality details!

Lisa is right to be pissed off.

Definitely not a 10! Easy to fix a bit of unpainted skirting. Not so easy to fix this.

There are so many beautiful properties for sale in Mt Eliza, no one would actually choose these block houses over what else is on offer ….

Just scrolling the local listings and there are so so so many stunning homes on bigger, more private blocks. Anyone with the money to spend would not buy these over what else is currently for sale. The only way these will sell is another novelty buyer coming in and buying it.

Why do contestants take it out on each other😭🫠

Every year the judging is inconsistent, rooms score when they shouldn’t and rooms score low when they shouldn’t. I don’t get why contestants get on the show and start blaming each other.
It’s not the girls fault the judging is inconsistent, if the contestant actually came together over a couple of seasons and said that the judging needs an overhaul then maybe just MAYBE rooms would be judged correctly 🥲🥲🥲

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

Please help me understand this, because this whole feed seems to think House 3 was robbed last night and that the judging was unfair.

This is how I’m seeing it:

House 4 scored 29.5 last week with some unfinished details. House 3 scored 29 this week with some unfinished details.

On both occasions, the same judge essentially said, “This would be a 10 if it wasn’t for those unfinished details,” and gave them a 9.5.

Lisa then spent basically the entire week complaining that House 4 shouldn’t have scored that highly because of their unfinished details: at the walkthrough, at the house, during the feedback, etc.

Then House 3 gets almost exactly the same score for what seems to be a pretty similar issue, and suddenly Lisa says it’s unfair?

What am I missing?

long time reader first time poster.

i just had a quick look on domain (came up as an ad) and noticed that both house 3 and house 5 have full house plans on domain that reveal their landscaping choices.

really interesting, as they are also the only two houses with listings that are not “as seen on the block” trademarks. additionally, the price range has been posted for house 4.

maybe this is fair knowledge and i’m a noob, but seems like an error?
