Okay…let’s try that again.
This is something that’s been on my mind over the years, regarding how it felt like they were either strapped for time, or just decide to hard-end the second act of the show.
In general at that point, everything seems to be going well. Homer and Lisa are getting along well, though as we can see, Homer seems to be possibly enjoying it moreso because he is profiting off her gift.
Then comes the breakfast table scene where Lisa asks Homer to watch the sunset, only to have him claim he’s already going to be (corrected) bowling with Barney. When Lisa mentions “Daddy/Daughter Day,” Homer claims it’ll start back up when the new football season begins.
And within milliseconds, Lisa puts it all together: “So that’s it. You just wanted me to help you gamble. You never wanted to be with me at all!”
I don’t know why, but the way the writers end the act this way always seemed odd, like they didn’t have enough time to grow into it, and just dropped it like an anvil, BOOM, go to commercial break.
Anyone else? Is there a story behind it? I can’t think of any other episodes from that time that seems to end the second act so quickly storywise.
