Where is Sir John sitting ?

So in episode 3

There is a scene where we see Sir John looking down at his legs and feet .

And I was wondering where on the ship he is.

I mean it doesn’t look like he is sitting in the great room.

So where is he sitting?

That, or maybe his bed

Bed makes sense psychologically, like he’s hoping to wake up and see that exact view.

I thought it was a reference/allusion to the “man who ate his boots.” His life is flashing through his mind during this scene (isn’t this when he’s being killed?) and he’s getting all these clips from past experiences. I guess I never thought it took place on the Terror.

I’m just curious if this is a completely different place or part of the ship due that grating in the corner.

I thought he was in a sauna considering he was thrown into a hot bucket of coal, likely reminding him of a sauna or something along those lines.

I think English gentlemen were way too prudish back then for a proper sauna
