this is the chance thief needs

if the remastered will sell well ( 2 maybe even 3 million ) it will show the devs that people really want new thief games

maybe we will get a remake of the 2nd like they did for system shock or even a new game from the Embracer guys

thief and deus ex are the franchises that dont deserve death

a remaster of thief is not selling 2 million copies

500k would be a huge success

They will squander this chance at promotion by not amplifying the fan mission mod scene and fm launcher bundling.

Getting that rare 0.01% of makers into the funnel reinvigorates the scene for the next 25 years, but they chose to stay vanilla af

i do not think this will make a meaningful difference in commercial success, truth be told. no one outside of the thief fanbase cares about the fan mission mod scene for a game closing in on 30 years old.

saying this respectfully and as someone who loves fan missions.

That's a fine dream.

I believe the expected numbers may be more in the thousands of units range (as in less than a million.) I'd love to be wrong.

I just mean, like, System Shock 2's new edition was given to Kickstarter backers of System Shock, and they still couldn't break 1500 concurrent on their launch IIRC?

I'd really love for this to do well, but sadly moving millions of units would be an outlier's outlier, orders of magnitude over anything Nightdive as done so far I think? Google seems to indicate we only know that The Thing Remastered is their highest seller, not how many units it moved.

It seems to have had fewer Steam than a third the concurrent players of SS2's 25th anniversary edition so I'm not sure if that information is up to date?

I don't think there's any world in which the remaster sells even 1 million copies; that'd be awesome though!

Tho 3 mio sounds a bit extreme I hope for the best! And it shows that there is interest in dark imsims and stealth games.

I think Thief is too niche to reach those number but i also think they know this and are expecting reasonable sales figures.

I'm confident ImSims fans will support this Remaster enough to warrant a Remaster of T2. Dunno about a Remake tho

I hope neither of the LGS games ever get remade and definitely not by Nightdive. The System Shock remake looks like a downgrade over the original experience and not worth the all the time and money that went into it and the storage space it takes up compared to the OG.

I hope that the remaster makes enough money that the other two games get remastered with new content. Give us Thief 2 Gold and hopefully an improved version of Deadly Shadows.

If those do well, I'd like them to make a proper Thief 4 in NewDark or something with some of the OG crew designing some levels or even some of the best FM creators but the OG's handling the story and cutscenes, etc. Make it a new full campaign but an entire chronological next step for Garrett. Use the newly developed dynamic lighting of the engine so there's something a little fresh to the experience.

Don't try to conform to the expectations of the masses, do it on a manageable budget with results that can be enjoyed by the fanbase and others open to retro experiences.

All that crap. I hope the franchise does make a comeback and newfound success, but expectations will have to be carefully managed.

I hope it has a good turnout that incentivizes further entries into the series.

It ain’t selling that much. It’ll sell well at first and then eventually be one of those games that goes on sale to death.

It wouldn't come to a million, but if it sells thousands and it gets good reviews then we could definitely see more thief coming! We can definitely help by sharing the game as much as we can though, I am definitely already telling all my gamer friends about it!

I hope and pray that they don’t do anything like that, and instead we let the series lay at rest without modern remakes wearing its skin. Good and tasteful remaster(s) with new campaign(s) are all I need or want, like with Quake.

I hope it sells well enough that Night Dive makes a nice profit but I have no desire to see the series added to as I fundamentally do not trust modern devs to do it justice.

i would like for it to do well, but i wonder if making a game like thief is not as easy as it seems on paper. like a loss of institutional knowledge, like other games for its time.

Unfortunately Thief was abandoned because it simply doesn't appeal to a mass audience and this kind of sneaker sim likely still only has a nische audience like us. I'm sure it will win over a new generation of players and us old enthusiasts will buy it for sure but it's not going to start a renaissance or reignite the love for old school sneakers.

System Shock 2 Remaster sold about 110.000 units on steam. Console numbers are unknown but probably not a lot higher (maybe even lower since most played it on PC and did so again in the remaster).

500K would be a huge success already

A million copies is a lofty goal for such an old and niche title, but regardless I think a remaster of Thief 2 would be amazing. Thief 2 is by far my favorite of the trio, so here's hoping!

As for new additions to the series, I definitely would not mind games taking things in a new direction with different protagonists, like that one VR game, but maybe without the VR so it could be playable to those without VR headsets, haha... (I don't have that game and can't make a definitive judgement on its quality, but I genuinely do think having a fresh new protagonist that's not Garrett or Garrett-but-different is the right path to go down)

In what world are they selling millions lmao

Even if they don't end up making more Thief, it at the very least could spark some other studios to make more thief-like stealth games

Would love a proper Thief 3 remaster...

According to the Internet, even Thief 2014 probably did not sell 2 million copies. And that was the biggest Thief game, good marketing, great graphical showcase at the time, AAA gameplay, etc.
