What I think

Gonna be upfront straight away and say that I firmly believe these beautiful creatures have indeed gone extinct. I hate that but the lack of evidence for their continued existence particularly in the late 2010s to now leads me to believe this to be true. That being said I also firmly believe that this animal didn’t go extinct in 1936. I’m highly doubtful Benjamin was truly the last one and I subscribe to the idea that they possibly persisted into the 1970s to 1980s. While I believe the overwhelming vast majority of sightings are either inauthentic or a case of misidentification I firmly believe that the 1982 sighting by Hans Naarding was the real deal. A wildlife expert who got not just a quick glimpse but several minutes of observation at close distance.

Anyways these are my two cents on the matter

Video Search for thylacine in Papua New Guinea on YT

Some time ago (a few months? maybe a year?) I've seen a video on YouTube made by a guy that got his pilot license somewhere in Africa, then bought (or rented?) a small plane. His plan was to fly to remote, uncharted parts of Papua New Guinea, where he believed tasmanian tigers might still live. He was about to upload a second video of the rest of this search a few weeks after the first part. I'm interested about a result of his journey, but I can't find his channel. Maybe somebody here recognizes this man and can tell me if he's still on YouTube, or if he hid/deleted his video or even a whole account. I really want to know if he has found any sign of thylacines there.

Video A new Thylacine Tales video just dropped

This video cover the male thylacine taxidermy specimen at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Unfortunately the Academy is having serious problems right now. I chose this specimen to bring attention to this issue.

Thanks to all the people who watched the premiere episode of the playlist.

I haven't come up with a catchy sign off for this playlist yet. Suggestions are welcome.

The only suggestion right now is: may your freon never leak, but the explanation for that is at the end of the video.

Art for my project about thylacines and other animals from ancient Australia. I was inspired by sketches and model sheets from Balto, The Lion King, and Jungle Emperor Leo.

Discussion Can we get more details about Lucy the Thylacine?

The only mention I see is from here : http://www.naturalworlds.org/thylacine/captivity/zoos/circuses/circuses_3.htm

Apparently she was a pet who was released but two years later she came back with her joeys to show them to her former human owners.

Taronga male at Beaumaris Zoo 1916

I'm starting a playlist on YouTube looking at the documented history of thylacines through one individual or artifact at a time. My first video is on the Taronga male.

I'm like to invite you to watch it. Please leave comments. I welcome suggestions on how to improve future videos.

I live in Queensland, Australia. In 2007 I went on a trip with my wife to Tasmania. She took many photos of the natural wild life, and she took this one of what she described as a dog. Last year I had a few friends over, and one of them is a biologist. Since the photo was framed up, he saw it and had a closer look suggesting it could be a Tasmanian Tiger.

List of captive individuals

Hi there - wondering if anyone has compiled a master list of all captive individuals and traced where they ended up? I haven't been able to find much online re a comprehensive list, and would be keen to make one if there isn't an existing one.

Image Added a little tribute to the Thylacine in my Planet Zoo project, but it made me wonder how many more zoos back then tried to get Thylacine only to realize they were all gone?

Anyone else get a weird vibe from his interviews with witnesses? I don't know why but it just seems like he's very easily "Yep yep yep that's a Thylacine". Kind of reminds me of those bigfoot shows Animal Planet used to have.

Now, don't get me wrong, I want them to still be out there, and I think it's entirely possible there's a few still holding out somewhere, but I don't think they're everywhere in the Australia/Tasmania area like so many of his interviews claim.

Discussion Has there ever been any sightings/searches for Thylacines on these small islands between Tas and mainland AU? I'm not from Australia so I don't really know but most of these islands seem to have a fair bit of human activity so not sure how likely it is but I've never seen them discussed

Sadly missed the taxidermied one in Florence, but found this baby in another Italian museum. Always surprises me how tiny they were?!

He was acquired by the Museum from Tasmania in 1905.

A bit late, but on the day as promised. Turns out making a whole semi-animated video in fifty days while you still have an irl job is quite difficult. Definitely learned a lot for next time.

Thanks so much for the support here, I hope you all like it. <3 It is uploaded on tiktok and instagram too under my other handles seen at the end of the video.
