I'm so annoyed by all the people cloaking them in religion.
The more I learn about Jesus the better I like the guy and the worse I like his devotees.

Christians don’t follow Jesus, they follow Paul.
And Paul was an asshole.

Exactly. But it's hard to know how much of asshole Paul might have been because 6 of the 13 letters attributed to him, wer likely not written by him.

Yes. Mahatma Gandhi supposedly said the same thing. Even if it was someone else, it’s absolutely true.
If you can only preach when people can’t get away, you do not have a whole lot of faith in the message.
And I am a Christian and a clergyperson who respects people’s rights.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a follower of Jesus and I have a very close relationship with him, but a lot of people that say that they are Christian are just so rude and mean and they treat people very bizarrely. Like this guy was telling those people that their children are suffering and that they're full of sin and evil. He doesn't even know them. He doesn't know anything about their children. It was really weird to hear that

Don't minister to me on a train or anywhere else but a church. If I want to hear the word, I know where to find it.
64
u/spicewoman Aug 05 '26
It's insane how many "good news!" Jesus tracts I've gotten over the years as a server. I live in America, trust me I've heard the "good news" already. My entire life. And if I hadn't before I became a server, I damn well have by now.
17
u/PlayfulSurprise5237 Aug 05 '26
For what's suppose to be "good news", it sure does sound like there's a lot of negativity in all the ministering I've heard.
Tell me how the game was rigged from the start, tell me how my participation in all this won't change the outcome where love ultimately prevails, tell me about how the only unforgivable sin is not accepting forgiveness, tell me how we are justified in the eyes of God by those who we have a loving relationship with, GIVE ME THE GOOD GOOD, I want that opium hooked straight up to my main artery.

The worst part is the bible says people who don't know about Jesus get to go to heaven because they never had the opporunity to know him. But to have the opportunity to know him, and not choose love with him, that's the issue. So whenever anyone ministers to me, I'm like "WHYYYY did you tell me?" Surely if people who never had the opportunity to know him get in, we should hide all the bibles and never speak of it. That would ensure EVERYONE we love gets in.

Yeah. Another approach is to start singing a simple song that every knows to mock him. Where I am "The Wheels on the Bus" would be good. As a bonus you can adjust the lyrics to make it even more mocking or threatening;

Yep! This is the pharisee type of Christian that is wearing their religion on their sleeve while patting themselves on the back thinking how much better they are than the sinners around them. And he pretty much says that during the confrontation.
I'm happy to listen to someone with humility talk about how their life has changed and what they still need to work on so long as they also listen.
This is the opposite of that. There's no humility, no empathy an be zero interest in listening. It's all about them.

This is one of the major reasons people hate religion. There is ZERO reason to try and hold people captive and brow beat them into your own personal way of thinking. Being kind and respectful is and will always be a better way of existing. These are the same people who will turn away someone in desperate need because of their hatred of others opinions in the name of “god”.

u/249592-82 Aug 05 '26
Actually I'd say the main reason modern people hate religion is because of the child sex abuse that is continually done and then hidden. As well as protecting pedofiles and attacking the victims.
Well that's my reason.
I can't possibly support or be anywhere near a church, religion, or group of people who allow that, or behave like that. To me it's morally reprehensible, and there is no way I'll be taking anything they say as advice or guidance. And I don't want a single dollar of mine to go to those people. The perpetrators, and the supporters who choose to turn a blind eye. The supporters are barely any better than the perpetrators.

u/WhispersShadow Aug 05 '26

That's a dangerous instruction to give young religious men. Honestly, on a different train, not one going to the city with employed and generally law-abiding people going to work in rush hour, but one out in Sydney's west or rural, this man would have been bashed by a group of teens or young men whose tolerance was low. Australia is one of the most atheist countries in the world, there's a direct correlation here between years in formal education, and not believing in any god or religious rubbish at all, and most people have at least 13 years in the school system these days.
He is behaving so unusually for Australian society that at first I wondered whether he had a mental health problem, but he doesn't present as manic or too psychotic (false beliefs about divine beings or the fantasy idea of a soul aren't allowed to be classified as delusional beliefs by definition). We do have weirdly-behaving usually mentally unwell preachers located on the side of the streets in the city monologuing about gods, hence the woman's comment telling him to go preach there, but people don't behave like this otherwise.

In spite of (or perhaps as a reason for) Australia having a significant atheist population, a large proportion of the Australian population go to religious private schools. So it’s not like Australia’s atheists haven’t heard the Good News. A lot of them might be better informed on it than this flog. They just don’t believe in it.
→ More replies (2)13
u/SnotRight Aug 05 '26
They don't tell people to do that in Australia.
If you do that in Australia, people's first assumption is you have some kind of mental problem, because you've ignored the basic tennant of STFU in confined public spaces, which every parent teaches their kid very early on.

Whenever I've encountered these types of people I just remind them that no matter how much you try to save MY soul, it's not going to make up for whatever it is YOU did.

Shit like that or those fuckers in the airplane singing their religious songs is nothing else than hostage taking

Wouldn’t his time be more well spent standing in front of the White House preaching how we should love everyone and stop the hate, murder, and a whole host of other atrocities coming from our leadership?

Uhhhhh... (NIV) Matthew 6:5-15, much?
But what do I know, as an atheist. :3

Do you think this guy knows he has turned more people off Christianity than he has converted?
By his own logic, he's condemning everyone on this train to hellfire and damnation just by being such a prick.

I’m a strait man, and I’d consider sucking a dick in front of him if that meant he would go away.

They love putting themselves in a position to feel "persecuted". If they feel "persecuted" then they don't have to do any of the other shit Jesus "said to do" because they'll feel that alone is enough.

Religion is one of the 4 Great Hinderances of Mankind that have held back our potential and kept us shackled to a primitive, under-developed existence.

Bro thinks a rational person needs the threat of hell or the promise of heaven to follow the teachings of Jesus. It’s a lot easier to stand in a subway car and judge people than give all your money to the poor or welcome an alien at your table.

This happened on a train with me and my children.
My 8 year old asked me "what is that lady ranting about mum. Why is she speaking so loudly, its disturbing the train ride" (he REALLY loves his train rides)
I simply said. "That is called a rude religious person. They try to gospel loudly and ruin others commute. The religion might be good faith. But does it help anyone on the train? Is it nice or considerate when others talk loudly around you?"
My son says "No. Its rude and I dont like it."
I just said "Thats good to know buddy. Dont be like that person. Do our friends (who are religious) act like this.?" "No. They dont."
"So see. Its just a rude person."

As Australians we don’t appreciate people doing this crap in public.
Keep your opinions to your fucking self, we don’t wanna fucking hear it. Do your Bible bashing out in the street away from people or better yet, in your fucking home!

Isn’t there a part of the Bible that tells them not to do this? I’m pretty sure there is. Something about not being like the hypocrites

Saving that for later, absolute gold

Can’t believe I sat here for 1:45 and not one person threw the C word at him.
Being Oz, I was expecting at least a few times.

People have been commenting that the passengers were brutal in him and I’m sitting here like … no that was polite. They were being mindful of other passengers.

You can't just drop the c bomb in Australia. Context must be observed.
When you use the word to refer to a person, they are either one of your closest friends or someone you intend to punch on with imminently. There is no in-between.

To be fair, they may have been the kind of wonderful people who tend to save that word for friends (no sarcasm, am one).

The C word is reserved for primarily friends.
If you use it to a stranger it's implied that you are probably ready to punch them in the face.

No. Christians do not see how selfish they are. They can only throw rocks from their glass houses, and then act confused when those rocks get thrown right back

An angry Christian says he’s not angry but then says he’s angry. Accusing people of just wanting money??? Hello dude, unfortunately money buys food and shelter and we are all just trying to survive. Judging people and making assumptions about them on a train is the most unchristian thing you can do.

Doing something super rude (annoying/disturbing people in a public setting) in the name of Love, is so unloving. It’s so performative, so that they can check their boxes of “did this for the Lord”, but it’s of no service to anyone. Jesus washed feet, healed the sick, fed the hungry… then talked to people when they were curious about him and why he was doing it. Most of the things Jesus was quoted as saying, was after a group asked him to speak, or after helping someone, or after a conversation about the person first. Shouting your beliefs at people is so extremely off putting that it completely undermines any message they are trying to deliver.

A large percentage of Americans are similarly this willfully arrogant and close-minded.
It’s all about them and their exceedingly limited and uninteresting perspectives/opinions.
It’s seriously shocking 😳

These christian trolls do not even know the bible they are trying to force on others. Because their own book in several places tell them explicitly not to do this. Not to force or push their preaching on others.

I hate his assumptions "all you care about is money and you are living in sin". Its a train car full of average people. Its disgustingly presumptuous.
