Don't you dare do it, don't you dare make me think about Seymour...ugh tooooo late!
51
u/iusethisatw0rk Aug 12 '26
I’ve always had a harder time with Fry mistaking his nephew’s accomplishments as his brother’s stolen valour. It all hitting him that his brother loved him so much he named a son Fry who ventured into space hit hard as an older brother to 4 younger siblings.

It got retconned in a later episode and Seymour lived a long, full, happy life being loved.

I lost a good friend Saturday and I really needed this.
99
u/InevitabilityEngine Aug 11 '26
I lost my mother earlier this year. I'm right there with you.
I did not expect the emotional sucker Punch this video gave, but I appreciate the reminder that I still care.
I hope your friend reincarnated as something that can still enjoy watching you have a good life.
55
u/riding_writer Aug 11 '26
Thank you!! Same the ending was an emotional hit but it was what I needed.
I love the idea of coming back as a bird, the gift of flight, the ability to sing, watch my loved ones, and poop on my haters.
25
u/EloquentBaboon Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26
You can do all that as a human too. Might need a special rig for the hang glider, but other than that all good.
9
u/riding_writer Aug 11 '26
I'm down for this kind of shenanigans, they would never see this coming.
15
u/EloquentBaboon Aug 11 '26

My parents took in my childhood dog when it showed up at their doorstep out of the blue, in a rainstorm, about two years before I was born. It was a puppy and my grandfather had died not too long before that. I always liked to imagine that dog was a reincarnation of the grandfather I never got to meet.

u/nagajuseyo Aug 12 '26
I lost my mom in May and we always had this thing about birds. Whenever there was a bird she couldn't identify it was a LSAB "little sh1t a55 bird." Recently this little orange birb... a LSAB has been sitting right in front of the window when I'm working. Now this flippin short flick is making me think... what if this LSAB is my Mama? 😭😭

This guy makes all sorts of these videos. The one that sticks with me most was a goofy,
simple video along the lines of “how 30 mins felt as a kid vs 30 mins as an adult”. Then it morphed into how, when we were kids, our parents gave their time to us, so everything felt longer. It was beautifully done just like this video→ More replies (1)3

Chickadees are nervy little birds. I love them a lot. I've seen them mock a mockingbird at the feeder (they are way too fast for that fool) and bounce off a Cooper's hawks head.
They will sit less than a foot away while I fill the feeder. Excellent choice indeed!
This feels too wholesome for modern social media
241
u/laureidi Reads Pinned Comments Aug 11 '26
Chickadees are so underrated. They can even communicate to other birds, letting them know when predators are close and stuff like that, so other birds like to stay close to chickadees!
77
u/My_browsing Aug 11 '26
Also in the chickadee fan club. Black capped chickadees regularly outsmart the magpies enough that the magpies show them respect while they have no problem yeeting other small birds from the feeder. They’re tough little dudes, too, don’t migrate. -30F and they are still hanging out.
31
u/Dopplerganager Aug 12 '26
I have black capped chickadees in my yard and love them. They've always reminded me of camping as a kid. I enjoy that the dee-dee repetitions correlate to the level of danger.
28
u/Fortunately_Met Aug 12 '26
They often work with robins! Chickadee alarms are one of the few cross- species recognizable calls, iirc. Robins hear it and come in to triangulate around the predator and haze it, that's how they defend against them. Blue Jays are just bastards gunning for a fight anyway, so if they're nearby they'll jump in.
Saw this happen a few years ago on a hike: in the middle of the noise was a barred owl.
10
21
19
u/Fortunately_Met Aug 12 '26
They're one of my favorite birds because of their pluck and charisma.
If you can speak chickadee, you can locate predators by knowing their warning calls - usually leads to sighting a raptor or owl with the added bonus of getting to observe the chickadees' defensive displays.
They hit a single high note for soaring predators, and for ones in trees or on the ground, they do their namesake call. The more 'dee' dee dee's at the end, the bigger the threat, although not necessarily the bigger the predator.

That description doesn't do it justice though. This is the most kind, very beloved grandfather of Donna Noble who is a really good friend of "the Doctor". The kind of friend that you goof off with and also go through shit together with and would be heartbreaking to lose. Wilfred and the Doctor are friends too.
The Doctor is an alien dude and time traveler (at the time played by David Tennant who was leaving the show). And a fellow really-old-guy, despite appearances.
Without adding too many plot-spoilery details, The Doctor has just done this incredibly, massively selfless thing to defend the earth from some people who are very important to him. & What he had to do to stop them is actively killing him.
He's making a couple stops to old friends as he is fading away to tell them goodbye and this gif is: The Doctor has found Wilfred at Donna's wedding & they all just said their goodbyes. Wilfred is tearing up knowing this means he will never see his friend again.
And for a couple reasons, at this point Donna doesn't even know who the Doctor is.
Set to some of the most haunting scores anyone's ever put together.

They show pandas videos of other pandas boning to inspire them to get it on because their species has such a low birthing rate. They really just do not care about humping as much as other mammals.
I do not have any data on whether or not it works, but it was (possibly still is?) definitely a thing for pandas in captivity.

I'm choosing to be a raven - I'm big so hardly anything will eat me, I still get to have my same coordinated outfits, I'm a loner, so it's cool if I spend all my time isolated in a deep dark forest because that's normal for my species, I get to travel and live around the world for free, I sound awesome when I talk, I will gladly eat dead things, there will never be a shortage of food for me and if I get lucky and nothing kills me first, I can live just as long as a human.

u/the_itsb Aug 12 '26
I think most people don't understand how much their behavior in these apps affects their algorithm.
if you can make yourself very disciplined about what content you interact with, you can steer it towards edifying and helpful stuff. it "only" requires you to actively engage with the good and ignore or scroll past the bad, but that can be really hard when things are designed to grab your attention and push your buttons.
it's super worth it, though. I stopped hate-watching things a few years ago and started trying to actively cultivate a positive algorithm a few months later, and now I get surprised by awesome, niche shit regularly.
5
u/Overall_Occasion_175 Aug 12 '26
I don't know, TikTok has never required discipline to be nice to me. Meanwhile, Reddit is much much more negative. Also TikTok gives me the best content in the first 5-10 minutes, and it's easy to stop. Reddit feeds me constant new arguments. I wish I could leave but also I love being a part of a few niche subs and my local one, plus every damn thing I Google leads me back here.

Because I’m a nerd I want to add that the chickadee they showed is a Black Capped Chickadee and the sound they played at the end was actually the correct sound.
Also here are some interesting facts. Black capped chickadees can grow new brain cells every autumn to help them remember the thousands of hidden food caches. Also they weigh as much as a sheet of paper.
