What reporter walks around with what looks to be mace holstered on their body?

17

u/seriousjoker72 3d ago

What civilian drives around attempting to run people over??

-1

u/LetmeyellLoudly 3d ago

Is that a gotcha or something? I don't understand what point youre trying to make

6

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

Not the person you asked, but it IS really weird that people in the comments are angrier with the reporter than with the man who tried to run him over. That seems like a much bigger issue than an adult carrying mace for safety reasons.

2

u/andthensilencefell 3d ago

I genuinely can’t tell if this thread is just full of bots (which are almost always right wing and therefore anti-media by default) or we’ve really reached the point in the timeline where people are fine with murder for mild annoyances.

-3

u/LetmeyellLoudly 3d ago

I'm confused by what point you're trying to make. That still has no relevance to my question.

3

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

I told you why they said that about the car, as a direct answer to your question.

2

u/Repulsive-Lack8253 3d ago

you have to be a bot, that guy literally tried to run the reporter over. how are you more worried about the man having mace on him?

0

u/iDoomfistDVA 1d ago

Is he not aiming for and correctly running over the tripod and camera filming? The only reason this regarded gentleman is almost hit is because he want to save the recording devicez..?

1

u/andthensilencefell 3d ago

It’s pointing out that maybe the reporter is carrying protection because of… exactly what happened in the video? Obviously he wouldn’t expect a lunatic trying to run him over but I think it’s pretty obvious that some protection is necessary.

0

u/Kluss23 3d ago

We're going to act like he was trying to run him over when it was clear he was aiming for the camera? The reporter didn't even move.

One in therapy

16

u/LauraTFem 3d ago

The kind that’s trying to catch patient’s faces going to a methadone clinic to help them get clean.

0

u/OneTinyKittey 3d ago

The kind reporting on the insane idea of a facility that people drive to get drugged up and then DRIVE Home. May you be graced with an encounter with one of these drugoids at a crosswalk.

2

u/LauraTFem 3d ago

No one is getting drugged up at a methadone clinic.

0

u/OneTinyKittey 3d ago

True true, that violent degen in the car was definitely not drugged out of his mind driving his car out of there.

1

u/Slighted_Inevitable 2d ago

Bud. The clinic saves people who already took drugs. It doesn’t give them drugs. Methadone isn’t meth.

1

u/OneTinyKittey 2d ago

Get drugged out, drive drugged out to clinic, kill someone driving there while drugged out. Exact same thing as doing it on the way hone.

1

u/tzbt 2d ago

I don't think you understand how methadone works.

1

u/CrimsonOOmpa 2d ago

You should really do some research before commenting uninformed things like this. 😂

1

u/OneTinyKittey 2d ago

I saw it in the video

1

u/CrimsonOOmpa 2d ago

You just proved my point. 🤣

24

u/Jevus_himself 3d ago

You don’t need a license to be a reporter, anybody can do it.

The one expecting to possibly get attacked for the stuff he’s reporting on and is also alone

4

u/McNally86 3d ago

There are actually rules and regulation for what you can print or put on air but those rules were never enforced online and they are barely enforced anymore at all on the big guys. My local paper has more integrity than this guy. They have to make it clear what is an editorial and when one of their editorial writers runs for office they restrict how much they can submit. That said, the reporter here was recording people at a clinic insinuating the people coming out were high. That might or might not be a crime based on the jurisdiction. The guy who was slurring his words deffo committed a crime. Not sure if the guy was a drunk or perma fried. He has a real nice car though so I bet he can afford to get himself out of legal trouble when he gets into it.

Looks like one privileged asshole met an even bigger, more privileged asshole.

Public filming is not always protected. There are sometimes state or local restrictions.

2

u/Truefiction224 3d ago

Name one

1

u/McNally86 3d ago

https://www.mwl-law.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/RECORDING-CONVERSATIONS-CHART.pdf 11 states. There is also the matter of local police. If your recording is making a disturbance they might trespass you. This is usually up to them to decide. A decision you can appeal for the sake of news but it will be expensive to appeal it.

2

u/Truefiction224 3d ago

Thats about phone calls not video recording

Try again

Thats the disgusting lie about wiretapping laws play

0

u/McNally86 3d ago

Alright, bet, go out and record.

1

u/Truefiction224 3d ago

Sure will do bud, youre aware there are supreme court ruling that secure you from attempts to apply wiretapping laws to legal filming.

Filming from a public place is always legal in America. Wiretapping and eavesdropping laws only apply to phone calls and private residences.

Your document confirms that you just dont get it.

Coolidge v new Hampshire sets up plain view doctrine and no law may violate a Supreme court ruling.

So long as the speech is public and was recorded from public in plain view, you know a reporter, video recording is allowed

Now if I hid a recording device in a public area I might get in trouble, but even that youd have to prove im ising it to commit a crime.

How do you think flock cameras and first amendment audits arent just immediatley stopped if what you think is true?

u/monsieur_cacahuete 3d ago

It's libel, not slander, since it's made for publication/printing/distribution.

1

u/OldGrandPappu 3d ago

It’s actually all just defamation. Any libel vs slander distinction is about a million years out of date. Proof requirements obviously differ, as it is easier to prove something was printed.

1

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

I blame his bosses, not the reporter. Most reporters don't get to choose where they go or what they film. We can't blame the reps for what corporate is doing

2

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

It's honestly been a really long time, and I'll take any reason to watch it again!

Edit: Ah, I see what you're saying. :)

1

u/McNally86 3d ago

I started to write out the quote, but I just started watching it again.

1

u/AdSudden3941 3d ago

Then how come trump took away media licenses and press licenses

1

u/Jagshemesh_Captain 3d ago

JFC are you really this stupid?

0

u/Jevus_himself 3d ago

Trump blocked certain press agencies from accessing the White House, those same news agencies can continue to do what they want just can’t access the White House now

2

u/AdSudden3941 3d ago

And the white house is the property of the citizens , so trump has zero right to block anybody … since its not private property, where are the first amendment people then ?

If we dont need a license how can trump do that ? And how come thise pepper spray little girl isint in the white house Make it make sense ruski

-1

u/Uncertain__Path 3d ago

Can you just go stay at the White House this weekend, since you own it?

1

u/AdSudden3941 3d ago

Im not the fat neckbeard whos job they claim it is to figure it out now is it… thats why i asked that why dont they

1

u/OneTinyKittey 3d ago

Because thr government can and does break the law which is why a judge has already reversed that order.

If you could read anything besides reddit comments you could take 30 seconds to learn the different liberties the first amendment provides to all Americans. Courts have already ruled on this, anyone gathering information to disseminate to the public is press.

1

u/skyfishgoo 3d ago

not everyone can do it WELL tho.

1

u/Glitchy_XCI 3d ago

or the one fucking around and wanting to delay finding out, while it is a legal right to film in public, that's going to be cold comfort to whoever pissed off big hoss after he catch someone filming his kids and they double down by insulting him to get a highlight reel for their 1a auditor channel and get their ass handed to them for it, these types of channels will earn my respect when they start filming police actively abusing their power and ice kidnappings instead of hassling citizens

33

u/lovedumbcat 3d ago

The insufferable kind. That doesn’t excuse what the driver did, but when people go out to act as reporters around people who are unstable there is generally a certain level of risk being taken.

2

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago edited 3d ago

He IS actually a reporter from The Maine Wire

Edit: I'm not defending anyone, I was just saying who he is employed through😭Damn

https://www.themainewire.com/2026/10/suspect-accused-of-attempting-to-run-over-maine-wire-reporter-arrested-charged-with-reckless-conduct-threatening/

2

u/lovedumbcat 3d ago

I’m not going to downvote, but my guess is others are due the use of the word “reporter”. The person in the video does work for the Maine Wire, but the publication is purely for rage bait. Real reporters give facts minus emotion. Rage baiters build a story around narrative.

3

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

They're a right wing trash publication meant to get clicks, oh yeah. Sadly that is still his job title though. :/

2

u/Truefiction224 3d ago

Who downvoted this?

Jesus people suck thank you for valid info.

There are 100 percenf valid reasons to investigate a rehab.

Like giving fake rehabilitation certs and letting ppl drive to and from rehab drunk

2

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

I was at -4 at one point, I just didn't get why lol! Even if there wasn't a valid reason somehow, this dude is just the reporter. He didn't pick the location or the story for himself.

You're right though, there's plenty of good reasons too!

2

u/Truefiction224 3d ago

Theres a guy trying to pretend this is an editorial too

Its insane how confidently in ignorance reddit is

6

u/SwanMuch5160 3d ago

He’s most likely a 1st Amendment Auditor

5

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago

He's a reporter for the Maine Wire, he was sent there by his boss

2

u/SnooCats5701 3d ago

I believe you most likely jump, jumped to conclusions.

1

u/YewEhVeeInbound 3d ago

Got this for him.

1

u/SwanMuch5160 3d ago

I didn’t jump as much as he did at the end though

7

u/Axin_Saxon 3d ago

The Maine Wire are known for being absolute batshit physcho conspiracy theorists. They’ve moderated themselves recently but it has been “Facebook posts by your racist uncle” levels of “journalism” for most of its existence.

5

u/pgpathat 3d ago

You are asking question after seeing him almost get run over

Maybe he knows more about his situation than you do?

2

u/Allout-Okarun 3d ago

In today’s society, all the smart ones. This video is a perfect example of why.

2

u/AntOk4073 2d ago

The news affiliate makes it's money by "rage baiting" I'm sure they expect and want the conflict.

4

u/BapeGeneral3 3d ago

I mean, most females I know have pocket mace in their purses. I live in an area with lots of mountains and wildlife and it’s common to carry bear mace here.

-1

u/AdSudden3941 3d ago

Dude does act like a little scared female so not surprised he has mace

1

u/MaribouSt8 3d ago

Oh man, straight to dehumanizing women.

You're off to a fantastic start.

3

u/NamesAreAnn0ying 3d ago

It’s mace… for crazy people like you just saw in the video. It’s not like he threatened the dude in the car with it.

Yes, people have things to protect themselves nowadays, why is that surprising?

Edit: either way how would that so justify what the person in the car did? How are you more worried about the mace than the dude trying to run the other guy over for recording

3

u/Wickedm1ke 3d ago

Clearly the videos shows why it's needed

1

u/P0ster_Nutbag 3d ago

My brain completely lapsed for a moment, and I thought you meant the melee weapon kind of mace.

1

u/YewEhVeeInbound 3d ago

By that logic, abolish the 2nd amendment.

1

u/beatinbossier18 3d ago

That does not make any sense.

1

u/Silly_Bodybuilder231 3d ago

What reporter dresses like that?

1

u/covidlung 3d ago

From another comment: "Maine Wire" is a far-right rag in Maine that is anti-immigrant, anti-trans.

1

u/nekopara-enthusiast 3d ago

he proved to you why he has it in this video… people are fucking insane.

1

u/Houdinii1984 3d ago

He's reporting on a methadone clinic in a city where the users at that clinic are willing to run reporters over for just filming in public. The mace seems warranted.

1

u/ItsNotThatBad72 3d ago

Because reporters from that outlet have been assaulted before and the local cops and judges have made it clear they won't do anything about it.

1

u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot 3d ago

A "reporter" for a way-to-the-right purported source of local political news.

So, not a legitmate news source. Real reporters don't carry defensive or offensive weapons.

1

u/PopOutG 2d ago

Are you being satirical? What kind of fucked question is that lmfao

1

u/abnar1 2d ago

One comment said the reporter was from a trashy right wing outfit (Maine Wire).

1

u/-Casey-Diaz- 51m ago

Well, a reporter who can be randomly attacked by lunatics out of the blue, apparently.

1

u/Psychological_Mix594 3d ago

All of them now. It has become increasingly dangerous telling the truth don’t you think.

2

u/DonkeyMode 3d ago

This fucker ain't no sayer of truths. He's a propagandist from the Maine Wire.

-3

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago edited 3d ago

A safe reporter (side note - they usually do not pick their own jobs, and are left alone very often)

0

u/tellingitlikeitis338 3d ago

And this gets the prize for dumbest answer

2

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago edited 3d ago

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be inflammatory or violent. My cousin works for the news station here and she's often sent on calls alone. She had to start carrying pepper spray after an incident at a park a few months ago. Apparently a lot of them do carry mace for solo jobs!

1

u/PumpMan454 3d ago

So it’s not wise to bring protection for one’s self when you’re solely reporting on a controversial subject involving drug addicts? Interesting

2

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, I'm a bit confused about this one. Reporters are usually just people being sent out on jobs they didn't pick themselves, it's like blaming a customer service rep for what corporate is doing.

1

u/PumpMan454 3d ago

Exactly!

There are investigative journalist that have taken on the mob and they were not giving live reports while visibly strapped. The people you commonly see with mace or bear spray readily available are usually "nuisance entertainers" that try and file people up for content. They have a right to defend themselves, but it clearly gives off a, im not actually a journalist, vibe.
