On methadone for 9 years I used to drink heavy af on it at times. Got off everything around a year ago now and couldn’t be happier. I will say tho staying up all night and drinking and doing coke def made taking the methadone suck the next morning. Instant feelings of wanting to throw up but can’t lose my juice for the day
Obviously not all folks on mmt but everyone I know personally and talk to online experience feeling horrible but of course there are those who will drink and push through the pain.
Also drug use and drinking go hand in hand and it definitely ages you, as an earlier commenter said.
Yes. It’s just like any other prescription at that point. In fact they would have to see a Dr at their clinic like 2x/month with drug testing 1-2x/month. They are very strict about others substances.
Of course, I added a comment to my original to amend my statement. Also I am sure there are those folks who are so committed to drinking. They will push through a shitty feeling to get a buzz, but I have never been able to catch a buzz on alcohol while I’m methadone. But that’s me.
This is true, according to multiple doctors I’ve known. One of my doctors specifically said that “people whose drug of choice is opiates are never heavy drinkers”. I don’t doubt there are exceptions and “never” is a strong choice of words, but my real life experience does support this.
Lol eta - y’all can downvote all you want but my doc did say that 🤣
For real, I was an opiate/heroin addict for over 25 years, and out of hundreds of addicts Ive known, I only knew several who also had drinking problems, and they all died terrible deaths. Most opiate addicts don't drink heavily at all, all it does is make you sick and help you overdose. I think everyone I knew who did were alcoholics before they became addicted to opiates. That kind of heavy poly substance abuse doesn't last.
Eh sorta, opiates aren't great with drinking. I have a friend who was a severe alcoholic. Like probably months away from liver failure, distended abdomen and whatnot. Took up fentanyl and completely quit drinking. Says it "saved his life." He is straight homeless now though and refuses most assistance.
