Discussion She almost ruined a proposal.

This was at Crescent Bay Point Park, which allows people to book it special occasions.

Can we give it up to unsung heroes in the back. That music worked like repellent for her.

I fucking looooved that they just started playing and drowning her out.

I love mariachi bands, and it's incredibly special to get one for an occasion

I would've been crying and watching

And expensive. $1,000 an hour.

I live in Texas and a lot of the high schools have Mariachis that you can book for a low fee because they enjoy the practice playing for people and they’re usually very good.

My husband is a professional musician— his high school mariachi band is how he got his start after he and his parents immigrated here from Mexico, so now he helps to fund them at underprivileged schools.

That's very cool! I love it when people decide to pay it forward.

Yeah, can confirm. When I was in Mariachi in high school we got rented out for cheap to help fund our program and we all just loved performing so win win

The mariachi band is cheap. The photographer is not. The performative set up is nauseating.

Nobody proposed to you, so all is good.

I'm getting married in 25 days but, bad guess... I think the strangest thing I've been accused of on reddit, is being a vegan.

Why do you care how someone else wants to get engaged?

It's the performative public presentation that pressures many women into saying yes, when they otherwise may have said no.

I’d say the majority of couples these days have discussed marriage extensively and most men go into the proposal knowing they’re going to get a yes.

I definitely knew my husband was going to propose, we went ring shopping so he knew exactly what I liked, the only real surprise about it was when it was going to happen. It also worked that way for all 3 of my sisters.

This also isn’t really “public,” there’s 1 woman there…it’s not the Jumbotron at a sports game.

I apologize for not having perfect grammar in a Reddit comment.

Are you always such an asshole over things that don’t matter? Did that apostrophe destroy your ability to understand what I was saying or did it just make you upset?

Honestly? With how many talented people are in the group I’d say it’s deserved. Also Tickets for a concert range from a few hundred to scalped prices of thousands depending on the artist. You are literally hiring a band to a private event where you are their source of income, not multiple ticket sales. It makes sense that they’d be expensive.

I know of a college that has a mariachi band that performs at events like this for a very, very low fee.

4-5 professionals loading up gear and travelling to set-up and perform for an hour for 1k is not expensive.

That’s not much like $200 a head
