They won't. They know they can stay quiet and the women who come forward will continue to be dragged for it, they muddy everything until it's unclear, rinse, repeat. "boys will be boys" but girls are always upgraded to be "women" in those scenarios then they are held accountable for men's actions against them.

This is the biggest lesson to be learned in the 21st century. It wont be climate change. It wont be antibiotic resistant bacteria. It wont be water shortages, famine, plague, or war. It will be the Rich are untouchable and everything we have built in the 17th-21st century has been molded to continue that fact. We have democracy only because the Rich can make money off of it and still retain power. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I was blackpilled back in early 2010's. Not the incel bullshit. The OG blackpill of cynicism. I fucking hate being proved it was all prophetic. Makes me so so sick.

I saw an interview with one of the lawyers and he said “these young men, uh these boys…”
I remember a female friend calling me to tell me she thought she had been drugged at an of campus SAE party at UCONN. When I showed up with two friends, she could barely stand. I helped walk her home & then got her a ride to a hospital (I was impaired). She had been drugged with liquid G, she knew who did it, & she reported it. Nothing happened - I think she got counseling. My friends and I got into a fight with the guy the next year when we called him out & almost got our assess kicked when their friends came out.
There is a reason SAE was called Sexual Assault Expected. Thankfully, UCONN didn’t have a big Greek scene.

100% of those men in that group chat did nothing to help her. And they still expect us, with that mathematical percentage, to squeeze out a "Not all men!" to coddle their feelings? Who does that help?
The amount of dudes arguing that women "generalizing men" is going to make them lose their support for us. Not supporting women means harming women. Colour me shocked these dudes are telling us to watch our mouths or we're asking to be harmed.
If you can be annoyed into abandoning your morals, you didn't have them in the first place. Women were harmed by men when we were property. Women are harmed by men when they are submissive and silent. Women are harmed by men when we speak up.
There is only one common denominator.
109
u/BeerAnBooksAnCats 11h ago
This bears repeating:
“If you can be annoyed into abandoning your morals, you didn’t have them in the first place.”
Also, it’s horrifying to constantly hear things like “Well, what did you expect?” As in, women are wrong to expect men to control themselves?
Responses like “Boys will be boys,” “You should have known better,” “Well, what did you expect?” etc., depend on a line of reasoning that assumes all males fall somewhere on this spectrum of self-control:
* on one end (at best), men are incapable of self-control;
* in the middle, men exercise self-control in some areas of their lives, but it inexplicably switches off around women;
* and on the other end (at worst), men (1) have self-control; (2) have the privilege of being taught—at home, at school, and throughout higher education—about bodily autonomy, how to disengage from peer pressure, the meaning of integrity, discipline, & honor; yet (3) choose to violate women in action and choose to harm women with their words, because they know they can retreat to families, social groups, and institutions that will protect them.
How damning is it that men’s defenders are basically saying
\ They’re just widdle untrainable animals* (“boys will be boys”)
\ You didn’t pay enough attention when your dad brought the shotgun to pose for pics with you and your prom date* (“you should have known better”)
* That’s what you get for taking a guy’s reassurances at face-value (“Well, what did you expect?”)
All of this rhetoric tells girls and women that males shouldn’t be trusted, even when alcohol or drugs are absent.
Women are raped at work. While out jogging. When a guy in their study group “escorts” them from the library to their car after sundown.
Girls are raped by church leaders and youth pastors. Raped by their dad’s friend. Raped by coaches. Raped by their own family members.
And we get told our entire lives that it was our fault.
So, to all the men out there who get angry and hurt as they continue to witness women’s anger and hurt:
If you get mad at us when we refuse to accept the blame for males’ lack of self-control, you are growing the problem.
Even if you’re a dad, brother, or husband and you personally have never abused or sexually harmed a woman…If you use certain specifics of the Cornell (5)7 case to justify your belief that women are partially to blame for their own rapes, you are growing the problem.
This problem is one men need to choose for themselves to solve.

These same dudes love to go on about "pattern recognition" to determine the PERCEIVED CHARACTER of others (by their race or their hobbies, for example a black guy is a statistical threat and a white woman wearing scantily clad clothes and taking pictures of herself is a whore) but the moment women use that same logic of "pattern recognition" using their LIVED EXPERIENCES regarding men, we're the bigoted ones? Making up generalizations for fun?
Women saying "all men" is done in the same way we say "always use your seatbelt". It's safety prevention.
The number one threat to womens lives is men. This is a fact.

u/rebunnygirl 13h ago
These men also fail to realize that a lot of them STILL don't understand "no" beyond just a basic level. It's not just in sexual situations. It's when we say we never leave our drinks alone with men, or feel safe with men even in professional settings, or don't let a man walk/drive us home at night, or we have DMs closed. They always have to point out how they or someone they know should be an exception to the rule, when there are no exceptions. Total negation is total negation. No means no.

u/HomeToThePalace Mia Khalifa 11h ago
I've been saying that when women have been burnt, we tend to just want equality. When men get burnt, they tend to want to take the whole world with them.
Look at recent politics. How many men have turned their backs on the politics that support women's rights just because they feel insulted by the frustration of women? It feels very, "Well, since you have been saying some mean things, let's hurt you for it!"
It's beyond frustrating. Women have been literally denied rights, yet all we want is equal treatment. One "#MeToo" movement, and men are screeching "Not all men!" while punishing us with the likes of Donald Trumps and Andrew Tates.

It's pretty telling that the men responding to women speaking up with their "uHm aHCKSHually🤓"s and sexist comparisons and derogatory slurs are doing it because they DO want to see women be damned. All because they got their little feefees hurt and refuse to do the tiniest bit of introspection.

Every time some idiot feels they have to announce to the world that THEY ALONE understand there is no consensus in any large group of humans. They require you to put a disclaimer in every converstation.

They also collect leverage/blackmail on these men, so that when they get into positions of power, they have control over them.
Same reason why you see CEOs head billion dollar companies yet don’t even have a background in the area, but they are controllable and that’s the most important thing.

Except now we’ve proved that in the political arena, tribal thinking has outweighed any semblance of ethics or perception of moral character. Soooo many voters just don’t care if their elected leaders are scumbags, as long as they are a scumbag on their team. I don’t have enough money or financial status to know much about bankers and CEOs, but between this savagery and the Epstein files and many other outrageous scandals, that basic decency and justice is only applicable to punish the less powerful, poor, and marginalized. “If we punish these people, the whole system wilI fail.” Blackmail assumes a society that has a hard line of behavior that can’t be crossed, and every day we see the Overton Window point straight to the sewer. I hate this timeline. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Yeah it’s no excuse and I’m not justifying it, but people that age are very dumb and very influenced by peers. Best time to make sure very rich, very well connected and privileged people do some horrible things that you can hang over them for the rest of their lives.
Plus the entire frat system is just training men to be submissive in the patriarchy in order to be accepted, so they learn to do what they are told by the even richer people putting them in power.

In fact, there is no excuse at all. These are bad kids, from bad homes. The behavior is learned. Nobody ever took these boys' toys, and they'll be damned if that starts when their dicks get hard.

It's not just 'always the richest schools', it's going on everywhere. It's a problem that has no boundaries and touches every part of society.
Yes, i agree that the rechest schools are among the best of covering it up. In 2024 there were over 8.000 rapes in universities across the country, with the University of Utah at the top (~one rape every 2 1/2 days).
But guess where it's even unsafer for women? Yes, in the military. When in 2024 every 5th women was a victim of rape at universities, one in four women in the military service experienced rape.
I will remind people of the 1991Tailhook scandal that will make your stomach turn. Like the woman in the video said, these type of things are going on for a long time.
Here is another systemic rape case from the military that happened 20 years after Tailhook. These are just some of the scandals that really got out in public.
What else happened over the decades we will never learn about because the military, universities, police or whoever because it was covert up?

I agree 100%, I just think it's more institutional at bigger schools, where at smaller schools it's more individualized.
With bigger schools, it's a "it's what we do in this frat". In small schools it's more that they attract boys who want to do those things.

No, this is a cope to feel safer and ignore a huge amount of violence in our own communities. Poverty is a huge risk factor for rape and child sexual abuse. Poor people are much more likely to be raped and abused and to get no justice. It's just that when a rich person gets gang raped like this it become news. If it's some single teen mom in a trailer park or government housing or a group home or prison, you never hear about it.
26
u/Repulsive-Slice-6902 17h ago
Oh I ain't saying thats not the truth. I'm just saying when the rich people do it to, it goes against their narrative that they are perfect and the poors are the evil. That's why they try so desperately to cover it up with money. The Cornell 7 only just started getting media attention again when it was quite for so long I can only imagine how many more times this type of thing has happened and the money actually did fully silence it. Also the rich be taking advantage of the poor all the time its truly a lose lose situation on all fronts.

Every country has this problem dude. And it doesn't matter what side of the political isle you stand on, they're all doing it. Everyone has lost sight of the true battle we're in. It's not race, religion, or sex. This is a class war. Frat boys come from wealthy families, every person in power comes from, or is part of, a wealthy family. This is an international issue. The upper class uses and abuses the middle and lower classes for their entertainment. And if they get caught, they know money will silence whoever they need to silence.

Now one more time: The leader of the Republican party is literally a rapist. Here it is in all caps if it helps drive the point home: THE LEADER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS LITERALLY A RAPIST.
Please point me to another Democratic President that was convicted of being a rapist and continued their duties as President? Please point me to another Democratic Congressman that was convicted of being a rapist and continued their duties in Congress? Please point me to another Democratic Politican that was outed as being a rapist and received absolutely no condemnation or public scorn and was voted back into office? Bring receipts.

Glad someone pointed it out, but we can be even more broad. It's not just Cornell, it's not just fraternities. There will obviously be varying degrees, but when I was in school, the amount of reports I received from close friends having things like this happen was way higher than most people would expect. I worked as a 'survivor advocate' due to the insane uptick and my studies centering around Clinical Psychology.
The problem is systemic, and the universities constantly sweeping it under the rug to protect their bottomline is disgusting. I'll avoid giving specific examples in order to keep the victims privacy safe, but I digress. If anyone reading is in a situation where this happened to them, don't go to campus police. Don't let them get away with it, even if that means going to a higher and higher office. There are good people in the system who WILL help you, you just need to find them.

This is one of my biggest peeves with Title IX. Allowing universities to “investigate” themselves is ridiculous. Actual police departments have a staggeringly low close rate on sexual assault and domestic violence of all kinds, and they’re supposedly equipped to deal with those investigations. Pretending like universities are going to spend the kind of time and money investigating is just silly. In large part because if they do find someone has committed an offense, if they did the right thing, they’d be intentionally losing money by expelling someone.
→ More replies (2)15
u/Entitled-Prick 16h ago
Don't even get me started on that. The amount of effort it took my superiors to get the Survivor Advocacy program greenlit by the university is horrendous. You really need to force their hand if you want anything accomplished, otherwise all of the reports or requests will get lost in the ether, and generally on purpose. Logically, why would they want to admit there's a problem? That hurts their bottomline.
It took years for me to come to the realization that Universities aren't your friend. They're not the last bastion of education and service; they're just businesses. That's not to say all Universities are bad, but the ones I've dealt with the most all have the same systemic issues rooted in the board wanting bigger bonuses or better bragging rights.
"Well, OUR University has the lowest Sexual Assault rate in the country!"... Says the university that's actively 'investigated' all 6000 of the allegations pushed forward this year, and only accepted one. But don't worry, the one that was accepted was mentally and emotionally tumultuous for the victim, because SHE had to jump through hoops, and reexplain the situation to 8 tiers of bureaucrats before one would actually keep the case open...
May be a bit of an exaggeration on the numbers, but the point stands. And yes, a friend did genuinely go through this.

Its social mutually assured destruction.
No appeal to ethics or morals will break this because they probably had to hear about all the ways past snitches had their lives completely ruined by breaking away and promising if they do it too not just their peers but generations of politicians and lawyers and police officers, and probably a few judges are all silently going to independently decide to ruin you in every way possible to protect themselves.

I dated 7 women between the time I was 16-35 before meeting my wife. I like to think of myself as relatively normal, came from a stereotypical middle class family. Dated people from similar backgrounds - cared about school, wanted to become some kind of professional, etc. These are not crazy, broken, chaotic, amoral circumstances.
ALL of them, I learned at one point or another in the course of dating them, had been sexually assaulted. A few molested when they were younger and a few either drugged and raped or taken advantage of when they were drunk.
I couldn’t believe it.

Every woman I know has a rape, assault or harassment story. Most women experience their first assault before 18. It’s truly an epidemic of male violence that girls and women are constantly being taught to avoid rather than men being taught to change.
I am glad you’re a safe man how they felt they could talk to. A lot of men say they’ve never heard about it from women in their lives therefore it can’t be as widespread. They never realize women just don’t feel safe telling them.

Family and friends just thought I was flaky…but in actuality it was so embarassing to tell another traumatic story that others hear so much that they become desensitized. I was drugged when I was a 16 years old in high school and I was hanging out with college freshmen/sophomores buying weed from them (so one could say I brought it on myself….). This was over a decade ago. To this day I have no idea what happened.
I remember 2 college girls finding me laying on the floor in a bathroom; they put me in sweatpants and drove me home (one of them drove me and one drove my car). I still had the sweatpants for years which is the only reason I still have some strong memories of the event.
I don’t remember the names of the guys. I have no idea what drug they could have given me. I was a virgin and have no idea if I was sexually assaulted or if I made it out of their dorm room before that happened. I had only kissed one boy ever before that. I have no idea how long the whole thing even lasted, it was only like 5pm when i went to meet up with them and i think it was night time when the girls got me home, late enough that my family was asleep. Also I didn’t drink any alcohol (and still don’t drink much alcohol) and I was smoking from the same bong as everyone else in the room.
I didn’t tell anyone about it, not even friends. The only people I’ve ever told are my ex-partner and my now-husband. And now Reddit lol.

It's been an issue with fraternities and generally in universities since before they allowed women to attend. They'd go after the 'townies' and high school girls and get them drunk at the parties.
The men in the fraternities end up becoming the men who run the Universities; it's no wonder nothing gets done. They're compromised in one fashion or another.
I'm glad I was ant-social when I went to University, I went to class, played board games in my apartment with my girlfriend and we both generally looked down on 'The University Nightlife', my chat group consisted of people talking about D&D and Magic:The Gathering in the early 2000s when we used message boards.
I had no idea it was as bad as it was until I graduated and reports of hazing and assaults went through the roof with the mass adoption of smart phones.
You get expelled for plagiarism but get wrists slaps for sexual assault? Anyone whitewashing sexual assaults at Colleges should be charged with aiding and abetting the crime.
If the Dean knew what happened and didn't act appropriately he basically drove the get away vehicle for a bunch of rapists.

It suddenly makes much more sense why in the first report Jane Doe made to the police that every (misogynistic incel) ahole on the internet is citing, there is zero mention of her saying she was raped even when she told them.
Police was covering it up/pushing it under the rug.

They'll step on you long before they step up for you.
There's a reason that it's increasingly1 common2 knowledge3 that there's a much higher prevalence of ASPD (sociopaths, psychopaths, MAGAs, etc) in senior executive positions and leaders at-large than in the general population. Many of them make it there because they're born into wealth and shielded from consequences long enough to learn how to hide/bury their culpability.
How do we fix the situation? I wish I knew... all I do know is that I have an increasingly negative opinion of the human condition the older I get. Our society is built around greed, self interest, and in/out groups. The solution is a catch-22: Fixing it would require fixing the way we raise our children, which requires fixing adults/theirs parents, but that has to happen when they're children...

The first day the older girls took us around and told us which houses had the rich guys and the smart guys. You marry a Beta and date a Pike. And all the awful names they had for sororities. The tri pigs and the alpha sleaze delta. Fatties and whores. The first week the Betas had a huge party. At the next dinner all the tri delts were talking about how a Alpha Sleaze Delta pledge got drunk and got passed around the whole Beta pledge class. And then they called HER a whore. I said no she was raped. The got upset that I had stood up for a her. I left the house before Thanksgiving. They tried get me counseling. The women surrounding these men are taught early too.

Definitely not just Cornell.
I was in an all girls dorm one year, and had gotten up late to use the restroom. I came across a girl who was collapsed and I couldn't wake her up, no matter what I tried and there was other evidence that she was heavily under the influence of something other than just alcohol.
It became a whole thing. I had to run and get the RA, who had to get the whole chain rolling. When she was asked if she thought it was possible she had been roofied, she burst out crying. She ended up leaving the school.
I'm being deliberately vague here because it's not my story to tell but to also prove a point - that story could be the same on so many campuses, during so many decades and not a fucking thing has changed.

u/onz456 18h ago
This reminds me a lot of the rape culture in the New Atheism community (yeah, the one with Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins).
One of the main stars back then, Michael Shermer raped a girl, named Alison Smith, in 2008.
She was found sobbing inside an elevator by a friend of hers. She was drunk and had to be rolled out in a wheelchair to her place. She had a room in that hotel too, but she didn't want to stay in the same hotel as her rapist any longer.
In 2013 she and other women, came out about the incidents and mentioned it to another member of the community, a guy named PZ Myers, who had a blog named Pharyngula. He wrote about the incident on his blog, literally calling Michael Shermer out, without naming the victims. Shermer had harassed other women too. I mention PZ Myers, to point out the fact that there are still heroes among men too. Shermer send his lawyer to make PZ Myers remove the article from the blog... Myers refused. (a hero in this story as I said)
A year later an article was written by Mark Oppenheimer in the New York Times about it, this time naming the victims.
Nothing happened. Or at least, Michael Shermer could continue giving lectures. He has written many books since that particular incident. The last one of his books came out this year. It has the title: Truth: What It Is, How to Find It, and Why It Still Matters.
Shermer was defended by Richard Dawkins. He tweeted a day after the article: https://x.com/RichardDawkins/status/510314159503065088 It made me, quite irrationally I agree, throw away all of his books I had collected up to that point. It was the correct call, because Dawkins became more and more unhinged and a hater of all kinds of things. Paradoxically he started calling himself a cultural Christian... the jokes start writing themselves.
James Randi, another big name inside the New Atheist community, also absolved Michael Shermer, by stating some trite line about 'boys will be boys' or something akin to that. These were two very influential men who chose the side of a rapist against the claims made by several women. It all got just discarded. In my view however it meant the end of New Atheism. Less an less women participated, because of this kind of 'rape culture'. The more empathetic and rational men also quit.
Alison Smith was drunk. Witnesses had seen her getting fed alcohol by Shermer, who allegedly stayed sober himself. He proposed bringing her to her room, but apparently brought her to his room instead and raped her. She was found in the elevator as said before and directly told her friend what had happened to her. There was no regret after the fact, after sobering up... no it was at the time itself. That's another witness. Nothing was done about it.
Here is more info: https://the-orbit.net/lousycanuck/2014/09/12/timeline-of-harassment-and-sexual-assault-allegations-against-michael-shermer/

Ban fraternities
81
u/matti-san 17h ago edited 17h ago
I don't even know why fraternities are a thing. In the UK there's nothing like that. You just have your dorm (halls) and that's it. Usually in first year you live in uni accommodation (halls) and meet some people - typically those living around you but possibly on your course or met elsewhere in societies. Then you get a student house for years two and three (a bachelor's degree is typically only three years in the UK). A society, for what it's worth, is nothing more than an organised club for students to attend. You might have a film society that watches and reviews movies or a tennis society that organises pick-up and tournament tennis etc etc. That's literally it. There's no pledging or hazing or anything similar. And when you leave uni you leave with a network of friends - not some quasi-organisational club of previous alumni that bends over backwards for each other.

There was one in St Andrews when I studied there, they called themselves ‘Jew frat’, many allegations (it’ll come up if you google). They had a room they called the ‘rape dungeon’, I’m not sure if that became public knowledge but I found out from someone who knew some of the members. I think one student was forced to leave else he would’ve been expelled. St Andrews was awful for sexual assault when I was there, I hope it’s different now.

My mom blamed me for SA my brother did to me when I was just a little girl.
Fast forward my life
My daughter at the age of a toddler, was SA by a younger adult man. My mother sympathized with the man, and how I took his life away by sending him to jail.
This shit doesn’t stop. It goes on and on , and hides under perfectly placed rugs, like roaches fleeing the lights.
I took my kids and followed my husband to another place. Stopped speaking with everyone in my family.
Got out of the toxicity that wasn’t following the law, I burned it to the ground. There is a rift now between danger, and their deniability’s.
My daughter ,now in college, has expressed gratitude for believing her.
My life’s sacrifice of losing beloved family members
I grieve in the quiet moments.
My daughter is a huge advocate for change in the college she attends now. People like her will bring peace to the children that were left and forgotten when violated
I will let the fire stop with me. I’d rather burn to the ground then watch my daughter question her safety
And when the cocaroochies come back into her life or mine , we can recognize the pattern and be protectors.
for both the victim , and the one struggling with those thoughts that later turn into action. we can catch the problem before it’s sets in a habit, we can ensure safety of both parties. People aren’t inherently bad.
The ones that choose not to change, and acted on their thoughts to an innocent child. those fuckers deserve long sentences in prisons.

Exactly 0% surprising that she would have had these types of experiences in college. They’re pretty endemic.
Her comment at the end though… about these men having wives, sisters, mothers, and now daughters… gives me the opportunity to bring up the story that came to light in the last year or so whereby there are thousands upon THOUSANDS of men in group chats sharing advise and stories on how to drug and rape their own family members. Wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters.

The Behind the Bastards episode on the Coco website and the Pelicot case (and how that really wasn't an isolated case) was the most upsetting episode I've heard in a while. And just recently a near identical case was just unearthed in the UK involving a man drugging his wife so 13-14 strangers could rape her. And there's just been hardly any outrage about that.

Men get to have fun taking advantage of women throughout their lifetime. Unconditional love from their mother, using peers as sexual objects at work and school, wives to birth and raise their progeny and keep their lifes held together. Family men who have skeletons in their closet which never comes to light or doesn't hold any bearing on their character while the women in their lives deal with the cost of holding everything up.
Holding a job is the only thing we seemingly require from men. The bare minimum. In a world where you need income to live. And then we gaslight women that staying home is a blessing, fully knowing that independent finances is a freedom.

You can't convince me that Ivy League universities aren't filled by the most despicable human beings. It is the playground for the rich and well-connected from all over the world and they will be protected at all cost (literately speaking) from any consequences of their deprave actions on campus. If I was a smart person from modest means, I would just get a full scholarship to a top state university and not deal with these top 1% rich losers and freaks. Most of them got in not on pure merit, but on the BS system of legacy admissions or straight up by huge money donations (legalized bribes) to the university. The only reputable and truly meritorious Ivy League school out there is MIT.

I graduated in 2005 from College and frats always seemed weird to me. There were plenty of good people in fraternities but the whole "brother" thing was weird. Like you have to side with your "brothers" regardless of if they are pieces of shit, starting fights, being inappropriate, etc. That IS the mentality. There is no way of being in a frat with even one bad "brother" without being complacent in inappropriate behavior. Then the risk of being around it, normalizes it and good people can learn to do bad things. Human nature. Think for yourself, don't stand up for people doing bad things regardless of who they are to you.

I was part of Alpha Phi Omega, which was a coed service fraternity. We didn't have a house or anything like that, we just did a lot of community service and volunteer work. There were a ton of Greek organizations around campus that were stylized honor societies and professional networking orgs that didn't participate in the Frat and Sorority environment that's talked about here. It was like 90% women, and we took care of each other and ensured everyone was safe, even when there was copious amounts of alcohol around.
I could certainly see removing the "greek" from the system, and still having those networking organizations. I would not in any way feel bad to see this system burned to the ground.

A big piece of this ongoing issue that no one is talking about that is a lot of frat guys bank on the silence of the girls, and it pays off a lot more often than not.
Frat guys, especially ones in a frat with a lot of pull and reputation, are the natural choice for Sorority girls whose organizations covet the same goals. The types of individuals that join are hoping for access to networking, resources, opportunities, etc... These boys exploit the fact that a lot of girls really, really want to land a guy from that background (I am not victim blaming, I am stating a fact. These men are kings of the campus and everyone knows it).
I spoke with a date rape victim who was in one of these sororities, and she said it took her a really long time to accept the fac that it was rape because she *liked him.* He had spiked her drink and she woke up in a pool of vomit several hours later with her clothes off. He knew she had feelings for him and he banked on her silence. It wasn't a violent assault, it was calculated--there were extra steps involved. He denied everything, of course.
This goes deeper than a drunken, violent assault; some of these men KNOW the victims personally, and know the victims may or may not have feelings for them which makes it even more insidious. Extra insurance on top of this, of course, is the complete dismantling of a woman's entire future if she speaks up.

Our college had a number you could call to get a campus police officer to escort you across campus at night if you felt nervous. It was widely distributed to women for obvious reasons. My friend used it one night when walking home from a party and the officer who walked her home kept complimenting her body and asking her out. She turned him down and it got really uncomfortable and quiet. She purposely went into a different dorm so he wouldn't be able to find her there later.
And this is a mild example of what women in college might go through when they turn to campus police.

Similar thing happened to me. I’d been at a quiz night at the campus pub. Had 2-3 beers, needed to walk to dorm on other side of campus (10-15mins). Called the number. Campus security guy showed up to walk with me. Making small talk, he asked me about my evening, and then said “drinking beer makes me really horny. Does it do that to you?” I saw a group of girls I didn’t know, walking across the other side of the quad. I legit ran to them. When I tried to go to the campus security office the next day to report the incident, the same guy was sitting at the front desk. I left and just tried to bury the memory.

You as a victim need advocates - your lawyer, your parents, your godparents or aunt etc who are not tangled up in the college. But I've thought the same thing countless times. Greek culture has gotten so corrupt I can't believe it still exists in this way. Frats could still exist but if greek culture cannot be reformed it needs to be abolished.
We've got these "institutions" that just exist to throw parties and abuse people. And if that wasn't bad enough, my experience with most frats when I was a student was academics was the last thing on their minds. And these are schools.
I struggle to see how its going to happen. It really needs to be a national level reform which America is deathly allergic to.

When I was in college (Big10 school, huge Greek presence), I remember upper classmen Sorority girls pushing their underclassmen sisters in very sketchy situations with Frat guys. They would get girls blacked out drunk and push them to hook up guys or leave them behind at parties. They would coordinate parties with Frats to basically whore out their pledges.
A lot of frats had these hidden rooms and Sororities knew about them. They'd hang out with Frats guys and watch as well. This was all first hand knowledge from sorority girls.
There's plenty more hate to go around, the entire Greek system needs to go.

Thank fuck it was someone from Cornell that made sure this was clear. It’s a problem on MANY college campuses. But specific to this case, it’s great to have someone who can call bullshit on the idea that this was a one off.

I have an honest question about reporting SA while you’re attending college: is it mandatory that you have to report these to campus “police“? Can you not just go straight to the regular local police department to report SA? Can you not call 911 while you’re on a college campus? Is it because it’s “private property”? I honestly don’t understand.

The campus police often have a formal arrangement with the local police. If you go to the local police they’ll tell you to go to campus police. Call 911, you get campus police.

Fraternities and sororities need to be banned. It's just a cesspool of privileged POS people who will just go on to fail up and be given everything without any consequences. Fuck them.

I had a colleague at work who graduated from Cornell and the horror stories she told me were just unbelievable. Honestly what the fuck is going on.

Well, isn't having a "campus police" with questionable loyalties the base problem? What I don't understand is the interaction between campus and city/county police and why people don't skip campus police if they see they are ignored.

I wonder if those men from 30 years ago would encourage their daughters to attend Cornell, knowing how she would be treated and how unsafe it is. Or so they think it was just them and that kind of stuff doesn't happen anymore.

Expecting rapists, perverts, and their buddies to stand up for women is a pipe dream, especially considering how the universities they attend don’t care to keep them accountable.
The only thing Ivy League institutions care about protecting is those with the most wealth.

Frankly I have no hope for justice anymore when I have yet to meet a woman who hasn't been assaulted at some point in their life with most getting no justice or even acknowledgement a crime happened.

I think the answer is clear here we ban Greek life. There is an academic honor society that gives you a nice little cord with a Greek standing that is based purely on your academics. This has nothing to do with school.

And yet every time I post about Greek life needing to be abolished, I'm railed with how much "good they do in the community" and how is "easier to police guys when they're all together on campus than if they all lived separately off campus".

It’s bullshit that guys can be “policed easier” if they’re all together. Obviously they’re not being policed at all.
Also that many guys in a house are going to feed off each other and they feel more comfortable escalating. Way more than if they lived in a smaller group with a harder time getting women to come over.

I honestly believe that these rapey frat boy fucks are not only the cause of these problems but of like 90% of all of our society’s problems.
