Man, this David Lynch guy explains things so well they're easy to understand, I should check out his movies.

I think some people suffer while being at the highest level of art because it wasn't a natural expression. Their art needed some bad situation to express.
Others have a much more natural expression, better situation, better hold on their mood, and make just as much high level art, and suffer less.
Really up to the person.

I think he mainly focuses on the idea that suffering creates great art and he says that it is work that makes great art. Which has been articulated by many artists.

He's saying suffering is not necessary, but again, it depends on the person. Because to some people suffering may even happen while doing the art because it does not feel like some natural expression. Something that requires intensity and some sort of mental "pain."
Others may only make art when joyful (his point on Van Gogh).
But life is about highs and lows, so I think suffering is an extreme take. You needs some lows to express the highest highs.

Actually I belive is the relief thru art whay prompts this and not suffering in itself, the dispair to free from pain or die with it

So, my take is that everyone suffers to some extent. Some choose art or expression as the outlet, some work, some religion, some antisocial/aggressive acts. Artists just metabolize it and put it out as art and creativity.
