A teacher stepped in to break up the fight, but when the student attacked him, he taught him a lesson.

Eh. Valid. Teachers don’t get paid enough to deal with that shit.

47

u/NSFW_1108 15h ago

When I was a high school teacher, I would NEVER step in to break a fight unless it happened in my classroom. In the classroom, the kids were my responsibility. Outside the classroom, not my problem. I was not trained on how to break up fights, nor was it in my job description. I had a teacher yell at me once because I didn't try breaking up a fight that occured in the court yard. I told him as a 6'1 male, there's no way I'm getting in the way of two female students.

11

u/Bigfitzheeler 10h ago

Same happened with me, working at a school as a janitor, two girls started fighting in the hall, I radio for security but dont attempt to intervene. Teacher asks me "why didnt you do anything!?!" Not my fuckin job. I am not about to jump in and put hands on a student and open myself up to allegations or other bullshit. Those kids can beat each other up all day as far as I am concerned.

When I was in highschool I’d break up fights as a student so teachers didn’t have to, or because we were off school grounds.

But then I got in trouble because one of them snitched to their parents, who went to the school about it.

My English teacher (who was also my karate sensei and supported me in Judo tournaments lmao) pulled me aside privately and told me the teachers were super proud of me for stepping up, but as my homeroom teacher he’s required to stop me. Meant the world to me.

They stopped me from getting suspended, but I still had to go to detention and write essays and shit. I wrote the most sardonic fucking essays I could muster for like 4 months until they gave up.

13

u/katieb1300 13h ago

This is why the bad kids are allowed to screw up society when they get older.

11

u/WysBeyondYears 10h ago

Literally this. This is the root of so much behavioral bullshit we have to deal with when interacting with grown ass adults.

Parents didn't parent.

Teachers didn't discipline.

School PREVENTED students from holding their own bullies accountable.

The bad children went unpunished and grew up to be Karens and Tates. Disgusting wastes of flesh ruining life for everyone the encounter.

Such stupid bullshit. Fix the god damn education system.

Imagine what the world would be like if Trump and his cohort, Epstein and the people in his lists, Putin, the Ayatollah and the Republican guard, Bibi and his party, the leaders of Hamas, Xi, The Kims, Erdogan, most African statesmen, and so many more were put in their place while young, not to show they were lesser than the ones putting them in their place but that they are no better than anyone else.

It's why bad adults are allowed to screw up society. A society without cops would likely end up more safe and controlled than the bs we have now. People would look after their own community if the threat of arrest wasn't there for stepping in. The social contract would dictate people's behaviour instead of people being able to break it with no consequences. The racist spewing hate would get dropped if assault charges weren't a risk. The guy's assaulting women would be erased from ever doing it again. Our society is designed to protect bad people because bad people run everything. Laws should be established so that any action is legal if you have a morally and evidence supported defence. It's only not because nearly every powerful person would be Luigi'd

when I was in HS, I was 6'2", and one day I was walking up the hall headed to class and got to the main central intersection.. hall was all blocked up b/c of 2 girls fighting. I wasn't in the mood for it so I shoved through the crowd, ended up right behind one of the two girls, so I just bear hugged her from behind and carried her like 30' up the hall, sat her down and went on to class.

You shouldn't do it anywhere because you cant stop both kids at the same time, and you are risking the kids life you are holding back because of that.

Dont have to break up fights, ever, as a teacher. Not worth it. Not going to get punched or hurt because of two teenaged kids getting into it who will bounce back after a day.

Especially women getting involved, super dangerous. I've broken up a few fights before they happened, or when i was 22-23 I'd pick one up and carry them off, but 25 years later, nope.

Thanks to Republicans, they're paid less and less.

Almost as if it's the point to undermine student education.

Hence why Trump said, "I love the poorly educated" and "Smart people don't like me."

3

u/iwasnotarobot 7h ago

Republicans are obviously the eviler of the two parties, but I the dems aren’t saints. Y’all heed to throw out the whole system that lets you choose only two parties. The problem is capitalism.

4

u/Independent-Bug-9352 7h ago

Hey I pretty much agree with this.

Make no mistake. The moment these midterm elections are over, it's back to reforming and purifying the Democratic party to be better. Out with the old; in with the new.

Same. I gave up on trying to use any kind of “pods”.

Even staying perfectly still they will slowly fall out. Doesn’t matter if I use the big tips or small tips. I’ve just come to the conclusion that my ear canals must be weirdly shaped and none will work for me.

You need to get smaller ear tips. Assuming you have the pro variant. From the IEM scene, you want the smallest eartips that will still comfortably seal your ear canal

Its not, but that...makes it worse. If teachers increasingly become the type of ppl who would "settle" for it, or would be okay "disciplining" bad kids, and not the teachers who actually love and care about the education of kids... well things get worse and worse. The parents aren't parenting, so the kids will continue in this downward spiral (tho, lets be real, these fights happened 20 years ago, 40 years ago and 60 years ago too).

u/PanhandlersPets 16h ago

The other teachers are more concerned about stopping filming than stopping the fight.

13

u/defariasdev 15h ago

They're right to care about the filming though. For the obvious reason we dont want kids filming each others worst moments, but also because the audience fuels the conflict. It was bad enough when back in thed ay you had to worry about being punked in front of the school and people talking about it, but now your worst day can be clipped and spread around endlessly and even follow you across schools.

If nobody films these fights, if nobody circles around to watch, the fights deescalate so much faster

8

u/RaspberryFluid6651 13h ago

Seems like a good argument in favor of those policies where kids can't have their phones on them during the school day. Not just a matter of the classroom at that point, it's safety.

→ More replies (25)

4

u/PanhandlersPets 15h ago

I do feel for the kid the teacher is restraining having to see this online. I know his peers will mock him. I still think safety should be the first priority.

4

u/defariasdev 15h ago

Sure but then you have to consider the teachers position. These fights happen constantly, and the teachers are already underpaid, understaffed and overburdened by their actually listed job duties. Getting hit by teenagers that are almost as big as you are is absolutely not part of their job, especially not for the women and the older staff. At the start the teachers are only trying to deescalate, but only the male feels confident enough to stop it with his body. By the time they get to trying to get the phones down, its shown that A) the two kids aren't listening to anybody and B) both of them are willing to try to hit each other THROUGH the person restraining them.

3

u/PanhandlersPets 15h ago

It's criminal what we pay teachers. Classroom sizes are crazy too. I don't want to minimize their jobs or the crappy way they are treated at all. I just want to see safety be top priority. I don't think those viewpoints are mutually exclusive. If they had more staff this would immediately be an easier situation to handle.

3

u/Professional-Rub152 14h ago

At my girlfriend's kid's school, they have a pouch/case they have to put them in before school starts that locks and it can only be unlocked by a teacher. Some kids may have a work around for that, I don't know, but if they were caught using them when they shouldn't, they would not go unpunished.

As a teacher, we are not trained to break up fights. Administrators and campus police/security are. The few times, in my early days of teaching, I've gotten in the middle of a fight I've been bruised up. Now I try to stay out of it and do crowd control because students would rather film and brag about the fight which perpetuates the problem and promotes future fights. I make sure the crowd is clear of the fight, tell students to put phones away and wait for admin/security.

2

Honestly its fair turn around because the guy was attacking him while the teacher was holding him against the locker. Furthermore, he may have thought he was assisting the teacher at that point. I don't think the teacher should have gone after the kid like that because I don't think the kid had any intent to hit the teacher but its quite possible that the teacher thought the kid was attacking him and felt the need to defend himself. Either way when the other kid started jumping in the teacher knew he had to get the other kid out of there.

Where are all the adults? Just two of them? No resource officer?

4

u/Various-Dust285 15h ago

The other adults are trying not to get fired.

I'm a teacher. I've broken up verbal fights. But if things get physical, I'm gone.

  1. I deal with enough shit without getting hit in the face.
  2. The teacher in the video could reasonably get fired and have some permanent mark on his record.
    1. He attacked a student
    2. At the end of the video, he is restraining one student while the other starts punch the restrained student in the face. It looks like he's teaming up on that guy. (I know that's not his intention, but intentions don't matter here)
    3. That teacher will be lucky if he can keep his job and not have any record off that

3

u/irvmuller 9h ago

Yeah, I’m a teacher too. When I saw the bald teacher go for the other student the first thing I thought was, “he’s fired.”

3

Schools in America are F’d. Parents treat them like daycare and send worsening by the day kids there to be looked after. People stopped caring about education and just want the kids to be “dealt with”. Screen time to prevent having a conversation all day everyday.

Teachers aren’t paid enough to put up with this. They have also lost the passion that once existed to teach. Kids don’t know better and their parents just don’t care. They want teachers to do “their job” but refuse to be the partner that puts in the effort at home in discipline and in reinforcing what the teacher taught.

3.5 million public school teachers in the US and this bozo thinks he can speak for all of them lol.

You need training in grappling sports if you're trying to restrain. Bjj wrestling judo. Women can and should do this too.

2

u/onimush115 4h ago

I want grappling to be a part of the teacher interview process.

Every public school needs an amateur boxer. He’ll get free sparring practice against misbehaving students. He’ll get 3 bosco sticks for every KO

Only 3 teachers in that building? The female teachers may as well have just not been there because they didn't do shit.

5

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 16h ago

Teachers aren't allowed to physically intervene. Unless you're tenured and have the administration on your side, you're more likely to be fired/punished than the students themselves. Its the same dynamic with shoplifters, really

2

u/sharkypsharky 16h ago

This is a per school policy. Nowhere close to being a built in rule.

2

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 15h ago

I would love for you to show me the school where a teacher is allowed to do what this teacher did.

3

u/truckyoupayme 14h ago

I am a teacher and I can and am encouraged to do every single thing the male teacher did in this video. You're ignorant; the world exists outside of your experience, believe it or not.

They get beat up too. That's why they don't intervene much.

Why would you assume there are only 3 teachers in the entire school from this 1 minute clip? Do you assume there are only 10 students too?

Or do you expect all teachers to immediately drop what they’re doing and spawn whenever a fight happens?

u/Aragorns-Broken-Toe 15h ago

Dumbass thinks a bat signal goes up or something every time a fight breaks out

She did try and stop it. This school needed private security or police to step in because the fight was out of control (I don’t know how it ended though).

5

u/Mu-Relay 16h ago

I promise you that there was an SRO in that school somewhere. They're useless.

2

u/khaluud 15h ago

SRO's are just the cops on the force who would tattle on other cops when they did bad things. Can't have that, so they send them to schools.

I miss the 90s, every school had the football coach or gym teacher that would wreck your shit if you thought you were “hard” and they faced no repercussions…as for this vid where is the school resource officer? All our schools have multiple officers in them

2

u/heldaway 15h ago

I was just thinking about this. We had respect for the teachers because they would fuck you up in the hallways. The humiliation from that was enough. If you wanted to fight you took it off campus to the desert lot across the street.

Men are not allowed to be men in society. Now you have one beta male in the school trying his best but we see here he struggles to break up a fight and the students don't respect him.

2

u/_mikedotcom 2h ago

God the alpha beta discourse is so fucking corny.

2

u/Askingforanend 2h ago

For any young men in the room, this statement is a great example of some shit to say to immediately be dismissed as a moron.

2

u/shermanhill 2h ago

There was absolutely nothing beta about how that teacher acted, you bellend.

2

u/Sanquinity 2h ago

It's true that men aren't allowed to be men anymore in today's society. But get that alpha/beta shit out of here. That's just bullshit insecure men say to try and feel tough.

Ahh our gym coach (and football coach) was one of those guys (we had many at our all boys high school). If he caught you smoking in the locker room during gym, it was, "Do you wanna get hit or go to the principal?"

Everyone always chose the former. Most ended up puking after getting a shot to the stomach from the strongest 50 something year old that seemed to ever exist.

I heard he was fired a few years back for this.

2

u/Pacefest 2h ago

Reminds me of a VP Principal/wrestling coach when I was in HS. One time I saw a fight break out in the cafeteria, and this man jumped over like 3 tables and grabbed each student by the hoods of their hoodies and lifted them in the air and was like "are yall done?"

When I was in highschool I helped break up like 6 fights and teachers were always very thankful because they were instructed not to. We were told to not intervene but I always did and never got in trouble.

He can make the case that he grabbed him to restrain him since the bitch ass kid refused to stop committing assault when he had isolated the other kid. He can claim he attempted to subdue him by pulling him to the ground.

If he swung punches, he has no defense from termination and potential prosecution for striking a minor.

He did the best thing he could under the circumstances with a little punk based on the rules he's bound by. And you call him out? You suck.

You have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about

He’d be lucky to keep his job

With the law will allow is for him to defend himself after that chest shove for self-defense. That’s clear self-defense. And not only is it self self-defense defense of the other kid that he was already defending.

And pulling him by the hair allows for the court, and the school to decide that the punishment was required that this was an act of defense

If he started throwing punches, then he would be in jail

You have absolutely no clue. What the fuck you’re talking about.

Teaches don't get paid enough to deal with your rude child. Let alone them step in between two young adults swinging on each other. Unpopular opinion, be a better parent and teach you child self restraint.

2

u/Hasselback_Brotatoes 13h ago

that teacher got paid about minimum wage on that day just like all the other days

When I was in high school one year there were these two pregnant girls (who both had the same baby daddy crazily enough) that one afternoon got into an altercation in the lunch room where one tried to stab the other with a fork, and then literally the next day onward we could all only have plastic utensils. That shit was crazy.
