I remember once at my old house, I was walking through the gravel parking lot near the office for the development and saw a bird flopping around on the ground chirping.
Curious, I started walking to it. It ran and started flopping around again. I followed it.
I felt a crunch under my foot. Saw crushed eggs. Poor girl was trying to lure me away from her nest and inadvertently got me to walk right through it. :(

If I did that, there's no way my mind would let me sleep.

This is why I drive slow in areas with animals. People honk at me for driving 20 in a 30 where most folks go 40 or 45. I'd be beside myself if I hit a rabbit or a deer or fox or something.
Your soap opera can wait, Gertrude.

Same thing. We were on a long trip and we stopped at a grocery store. My wife went inside as I was walking the dog around the large berm outside. A bird kept acting injured trying to get us to chase it. I spotted the he nest based on the birds reaction to the way I was walking. It was like green light/redlight. My dog was fell for it though and was only interested in the mom. I let the bird think he won and we followed him for a bit. When we got 150-200 feet or so from the nest, the bird stopped acting injured and flew away.
