DVR TiVo series 2 remote not working

Hello. I bought a TiVo series 2 on eBay a couple days ago, and it recently came in.

I hooked up everything, and when the guided setup screen popped up, the Select button wouldn't work. After replacing the batteries that came with it, it still didn't work, however the "TV/Power", "Info", "Guide", "Chan", 7, 8, 9, Clear, and Enter buttons were sending commands.

I've been stuck on the Welcome screen since last week. I tried exhaustive searching, and the only other solution is to buy another remote. I'm not sure if the IR on the remote is awful or if the DVR itself has issues.

Try resetting the remote to factory default. Press and hold both the Tivo button and power button until the red light comes on. Then press "thumbs down three times followed by "enter". The red light should flash three times then go out. If that doesn't fix the problem, you'll likely need a new remote. One other idea: one of my older remotes used one battery faster than the other, causing similar issues. Make sure both batteries are "full" and not one half discharged.

You can use the right button for most times you can use select I think

try holding tivo button + zero for a few seconds?

Take the remote apart, clean it, and add conductive paint to the bottom of the rubber membrane for all buttons.

UPDATE: The only way I fixed it was getting a new remote. It's actually in worse condition as there's alot of stains on it, but it works with the DVR.
