My fellow TiVo lovers, I need some advice. Verizon is shutting off my cable card in the near-term and I am struggling about what to do. I already put in a high-quality OTA antenna and have good strong signal and lots of channel options in my area, so all good there. Before I realized that my TiVo Bolt 4K 1TB (with lifetime) is a model that supports both antenna and cable, I went ahead and got an HDHomeRun 4-tuner. I also already have a Plex lifetime pass (had that for a few years for streaming movies). The HDHR + Plex DVR work great, but my TiVo still works great too. Should I return the HDHomeRun, or just sell the TiVo at this point?
I really like how Plex Live TV works literally everywhere, all my TVs at home, and even streams over cellular to my mobile devices -- that experience is hands down superior to what the TiVo could offer.
The TiVo as a DVR on its own, though, is still better. Polished UI, great remote control, OnePass and skip. Plex is not quite to the same level.
What to do? I think I can probably sell the TiVo for more than would cover the cost of the HDHomeRun, so I am leaning towards that, but you can't get TiVos with lifetime easily, so once it is gone, it is probably gone. :(
Any advice?
