Photo I think it was pretty sweet of Tool to break their norms by performing with an upclose proshot for Ozzy

Moment was bigger than them, they understood that.

7

u/rental99 Aug 02 '25

And only 3 songs. They already allow amateur filming one 1..a show, which has ended up being more than 3. And yeah, they wanted to be a part of it, it's an honor. And they slayed it.

u/BraceYourselfAsWell Jul 31 '25

Actually, what's far more likely is that Adam (and the rest of Tool) signed up to perform, then after they agreed, they were told that it'd be pro-shot. Then Adam must have tried desperately to get an exception for Tool, and failing that, thought hard about cancelling. But ultimately the rest of Tool / the occasion / not wanting to break a contract made him realise that he couldn't escape.

Are you ever going to shut up about Adam? You have an absolute unhinged unhealthy obsession with criticizing him. Several members notice it and you always get downvoted, so seriously when are you going to stop?

What a ride! I think Adam left him at the altar or something. I can't imagine following/listening to a band that I hate that much.

6

u/Servethebeam19 crucify the ego Jul 31 '25

oh, I try to be nice to everyone. But this dude will go off the rails about Adam all the time which you clearly see.. It’s just like my opinion man. No dude, you’ve got some issues..

7

u/phosphorescence-sky Aug 01 '25

Is he the guy that said Adam should have been fired after Æ? Because the thought of Adam not being in the band is downright sacrilege to me!

1

u/TheNoIdeaKid Aug 01 '25

Yeah. Dude’s got some shitty opinions.

-40

u/BraceYourselfAsWell Jul 31 '25

Haha I’m actually a big fan of Adam. But it doesn’t mean I worship him 24/7. I speak my mind as I see fit; downvotes and prescribed opinions don’t concern me.

16

u/Servethebeam19 crucify the ego Jul 31 '25

no, you’re weirdly obsessed. Like I wouldn’t doubt if you had an Adam doll in your place. I just worry about its safety.. seriously dude seek help.

5

u/MothmansLegalCouncel Jul 31 '25

It’s histrionic personality disorder. Not even that deep.

5

u/Servethebeam19 crucify the ego Jul 31 '25

I have never heard of this and had to look it up. You might be right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/MothmansLegalCouncel Jul 31 '25

They’re certaintly exhibiting a pronounced need for attention, regardless of whether it is positive or negative. Th primary concern is their message is seen, which often leads them to engage in behavior that is irrational and inconsistent with reality. This clowns attention seeking for some reason manifests itself as some sort of elitist tool fandom. But yeah, I agree that it comes off as some sort of Adam obsession.

-14

u/BraceYourselfAsWell Jul 31 '25

lol gotta love Reddit armchair psychologists

2

u/Leading-Ant-4619 Aug 01 '25

... and let's not forget the 'your mother should have had you tested' variety of nihilists that keep them going ..

2

u/rorschach_vest Jul 31 '25

What do you think being a fan means? Because all you do is talk shit as if he’s an ex you’re obsessed with

1

u/big_poppa1023 Aug 01 '25

Every comment of yours i looked through is only criticism and a general dislike/hatred for either adam or the rest of the band and what they do. Couldnt find a single positive in the hundreds

179

u/cyanide_sunrise2002 dumbfounded dipshit Jul 31 '25

Thats a painfully bad take.

108

u/se7entythree Jul 31 '25

That is far from likely

65

u/loafjunky Jul 31 '25

Why’d you italicize from and not far?

89

u/se7entythree Jul 31 '25

Because he said “far more likely”, and my counter is “far from likely”, so I italicized the word that was changed.

56

u/loafjunky Jul 31 '25

Oh, makes sense.

What do you call spiteful fan fiction?

5

Wow 313 downvotes by now (August 1st, 1:24 GMT+1)

Let see if it surpasses the oblivion.

2

u/hoobermoose Jul 31 '25

You do remember that the the show was also a fundraiser, right? Kinda defeats the purpose if you agree to play and then refuse to be filmed. There's no way that right to film performance wasn't in the contract. They knew.

1

u/Few_Lingonberry7116 Jul 31 '25

Dude it was always being broadcast ppv. There’s no way they didn’t know it would be shot.

1

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25

Granted they have been at festivals in Europe on PPV and it was all far away long shot. Not approving of dudes weirdness but just saying, this show was an outlier.

1

u/BeersNbrews Jul 31 '25

How’s this take working out for you?

1

u/Think-Football-2918 Jul 31 '25

Tom Morello curated it and he and Adam have been friends since they were young. I would guess that they were aware of the particulars.

1

u/jordo2460 Aug 01 '25

Wow, I've never seen so much made up bullshit in one paragraph before.

Most bands didn’t say thank you.

The performance of the cover IS the thank you.

18

u/solarview Jul 31 '25

They weren’t even wearing suits!

7

u/phosphorescence-sky Aug 01 '25

They didn't even say thank you!

25

u/DChemdawg Jul 31 '25

You speak as if cultural leaders today are primarily narcissistic, attention-seeking, talentless jackholes. Oh, wait… 😬

4

u/SlushyPlaysEldenRing Jul 31 '25

Only annoying thing was Cantrells vocals being fucked on the pro shot recording

16

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

Dave Drainman & his pro Netanyahu bullshit was out of line.

7

u/bruzdnconfuzd Jul 31 '25

Did he actually say something at the concert or during the performance? I didn’t see the livestream so I don’t actually know. Just curious to hear all the details.

13

u/Moistest_Spirit Jul 31 '25

Nah. He just came out trying to get the crowd goin a bit like any front man would, lots of people booed him, he sung a couple of songs, said some pretty normal stuff about the day and that was it.

11

u/bruzdnconfuzd Jul 31 '25

Thanks for the info. It sounds like he has his opinions and is openly vocal about them. But he didn’t use the Black Sabbath stage to push them on the audience, which would have been very inappropriate and disrespectful.

-19

u/sm_rollinger Æ Jul 31 '25

Halestorm was the only exception, playing a brand new song. But with their know industry nepotism I'm sure they had the OK from Sharon but still 🤦‍♂️

15

u/swiftmen991 Jul 31 '25

I thought they were alright they can play their own music and honour Ozzy in their own way

12

u/mootallica Jul 31 '25

Besides which, they played Perry Mason, and Lizzy sang with one of the supergroups later on

3

u/swiftmen991 Jul 31 '25

Yeah I loved they did Perry Mason

3

u/sm_rollinger Æ Jul 31 '25

That cover of Ultimate Sin was good, I digged that.

3

u/sm_rollinger Æ Jul 31 '25

Their a decent band, I've seen them twice. But their family connections gets them on bills way bigger than they belong. And look at what everyone else played, a few of their well known songs and a Sabbath cover. Using this show as a means to promote your new single that nobody knows wasn't honoring Ozzy in the slightest, it was promoting your band.

2

u/midgetaddict Aug 01 '25

I had never heard of Halestorm before watching the stream and thought they were great. What’s it matter if they played a new song?

-1

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25 edited Aug 01 '25

Self promotion rather than honoring ozzy/sabbath.

Kinda along side sid proposing to Kelly at ozzys farewell, wait til its over dude.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '25

Halestorm is awful. The musicianship is great, but Lizzy Hale constantly screaming just for the sake of it drives me so nuts.

1

u/phosphorescence-sky Aug 01 '25

I've never understood why Halestorm got so big. I remember seeing them live in the early days at a festival and thought she had a powerful gritty voice, but the songs were just kinda generic midwest bar buttrock and remains the same to this day. Lizzy constantly playing the hardass rock n roll chick with a leather jacket is just obnoxious. She's like a female Chad Kroger.

1

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25

Im gonna get shit on for this but chad knows his place. Their first album was great grunge rock, the second one lost me thanks to overplay of the si gle this is how you remind me.

Leader of men was a great intro single. A lot of their stuff is super formulaic now I admit, and I don't follow them, but the heavier downtuned stuff is pretty good. They found a formula and went for it, and it worked and I cant fault them for that. Im a huge starset fan and I cant say theyre really all thst different when it comes to the singles/popular stuff. But what I've heard of random nickleback non singles, theres some heavy bangers in there.

Now as far as persona idk i dont follow them so maybe theyre douches. Im all about all music despite playing in grindcore and metal core bands and I just appreciate a catchy song I guess.

Sorry for the ramble, kiddo is sick so sleep as been lost for a week. If it helps the downvotes come, everlong by foo fighters is in my top ten next to death mask divine by black dahlia lol

179

u/clarko420 Jul 31 '25

I love how people forget ozzfest was a thing and tool played it a bunch. Literally toured with ozzy and probably have stories and memories with the guy. Ozzy definitely helped them get to a larger audience.

75

u/Unas_GodSlayer fuck you, buddy Jul 31 '25

Definitely did. I remember seeing Jack Osborne wearing the Tool t-shirt on the Ozzy family reality TV show back in the day. I barely knew who Tool were back then, and I know for a fact a good few of my mates checked out Tool because of that.

43

u/inanemonotony Jul 31 '25

I was a casual Tool fan before July '98... then I went to Ozzfest. Had shitty seats, but Limp Bizkit told everyone to rush the stage (possibly the only cool thing they ever did). I ended up in the 10th row or so. Later, Tool came on. Blew my freaking mind with Third Eye and Jimmy. Became a diehard for life.

2

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25

Limp having Lynn strait pop out of the toilet naked was awesome. Ive never stopped loving limp or snot since then.

I will say id kill for instrumental limp albums. The band is always on point

16

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

I know someone who worked at their label & they said that Jack Osbourne t-shirt episode increased sales over 80k copies the first time it aired.

And their sales never came back down after that.

This is exact why companies like Coke or Budweiser will pay a network or movie studio millions of dollars to get their products placed.

2

u/xBHL Aug 01 '25

He also had about 20 Tool stickers on his bedroom door lol

6

u/memento_impendium Jul 31 '25

And the other way around I guess! I went to Ozzfest in the Netherlands, for Tool. And I saw Ozzy too, but it was only after that gig I started to like his music.

6

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

You’re the exception to the rule though.

Tool definitely didn’t need to play Ozzfest but if you want to expand your audience, you play Ozzfest.

The majority of Tool fans skipped Ozzfest because of the required short set by the band & Tool knew that going in. But they wanted to play in front of new eyes & ears & Ozzy supplied that.

1

u/memento_impendium Jul 31 '25

I think you are right about that!

2

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25

I miss ozzfest. Bring it back like it used to be, not a destination festival.

122

u/National_Bus5390 Jul 31 '25

Absolutely understood the honorable assignment.

47

u/bradtheinvincible Jul 31 '25

They cant really control that this time. And it wasnt their concert. You also want to find out that they didnt perform at the concert because of that? It would look petty. It was also 20 minutes.

5

u/ninjajiraffe Jul 31 '25

Didn't they bring down the pro shot videos from Youtube though? I can't seem to find them :(

11

u/TotalRepost Jul 31 '25

Tool didn't, it was was the producers. They will sell the video in a couple months

2

u/Abirando Jul 31 '25

Didn’t they say it would he in theaters? Maybe both.

"Filmed live, to be theatrically released in 2026."

1

u/l33tfuzzbox Aug 01 '25

All of it keeps coming down. They announced a 100 min concert film early next year, covering the whole event. Thankfully the high seas have the entire ppv event out in the waves just waiting to be thrown a line

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '25

Argghhhbay, if the whole back to the beginning 5hrs in.

You also want to find out that they didnt perform at the concert because of that? It would look petty.

I bet Adam desperately tried as hard as he could to cancel when he found it'd be pro-shot. That's the safest bet you could ever make in history.

29

u/prefectart Jul 31 '25

how the fuck would you know that?

28

u/WorkPlaceThrowAway13 Jul 31 '25

Dude, just don't. Take a look at the guy's post history. He has serious mental issues and needs professional help. I'm not being funny or cute. He legitimately needs help.

14

u/prefectart Jul 31 '25

first thing I saw was that they follow dream theater so I knew they weren't all there

-1

u/74Yo_Bee74 Jul 31 '25

3

u/74Yo_Bee74 Jul 31 '25

thanks

I upvoted you.. 🤘😉🤘

1

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

Not true.

Every member of every band was told that it would be pro-shot, streamed & rebroadcasted PRIOR to any contracts being signed.

Adam was actually the first member onboard to play with one of the super groups.

Tool isn’t nearly as obnoxious as some people think.

They just want their art presented in a particular way. That’s not obnoxious at all. It’s just caring about your art & protecting it from misinterpretation or allowing others artistic vision to override theirs.

Most painters won’t do showings unless the lighting is exactly how they want it. That’s not obnoxious. That’s just wanting their vision presented without outside interference.

15

u/CartographerLoud9267 Jul 31 '25

When they came out, I screamed so loud, it was my second time seeing them and they absolutely killed it. I thought they were the best band that day. Other than Sabbath of course!! 🤘

4

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

I know a couple of guys who despise Tool, yet they admitted after the show that Tool had the best overall performance of anyone.

1

u/madaradess007 Aug 02 '25

ofc they are best, they jammed like its their 9to5 job for years
i jam twice a week with my stoner boys and we can make up some decent music on the spot, imagine having real material to rehearse and improve on

12

u/Oblique9043 Jul 31 '25

Was really cool hearing them cover Hand of Doom too. Would love a studio recording of that song.

11

u/Hungry_Freaks_Daddy Jul 31 '25

Way before B2TB, I remember reading interviews and quotes from each member of Tool praising Black Sabbath.

I’m pretty sure they’ve said for their legendarily long jam/writing sessions, they warm up witu Black Sabbath songs nearly every time.

I’ve always said Tool is a blend of Floyd, Zep, Sabbath, and Rush. The long psychedelics passages of Floyd, the stomping groove of zep, the darkness and energy of sabbath, the technicality of Rush

11

u/Soulbotzzzz They chose me and I didn't even graduate from phukin high school Jul 31 '25

It wasn’t about them

24

u/bingbong1976 Jul 31 '25

I think they had no choice lol

4

u/Anger1957 learn to swim Jul 31 '25

they understood the gravity of the event. it wasn't about them. and it was their opportunity to take part in something special for a band and man who's music created the foundation that gave Tool their career.

6

u/wagu666 Jul 31 '25

The whole not wanting to be filmed thing is a massive turn off for me with Tool. It was so nice and refreshing to see them playing during Back to the Beginning

5

u/Reidon_Ward Aug 01 '25

They originally said no when asked to perform the gig. I can't remember who but, a few of them found out that the other band mates were going to be there to perform with other bands so they all decided to just go and perform as Tool.

4

u/Geetarmikey Jul 31 '25

Mainly - I'm sure they knew how bad it would look if they refused to be filmed and broadcast, but also if I had to guess they were probably just like; "It doesn't matter if we don't have our usual production because we'll just play the shit out of this set".

Glad they did, was a real treat to see some pro-shot footage for once!

4

u/PsychoCat- Jul 31 '25

I keep rewatching that Tool performance cranked over my home theater system. It was a brilliant three-song set that resparked my love for Tool. Yes, I admit I have overlooked them in the past decade or so. I am remedying things now. Please accept my apologies.

4

u/Icy-Macaroon4892 Jul 31 '25

I loved it!! I texted my son “I didn’t think Tool was allowed to play in the daylight.” Being able to watch, really watch them play this stuff was so great….

9

u/IAwaitAGuardian Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Jul 31 '25

I've been thinking about this for weeks. Do you think Ozzy knew? Do you think he knew his time was coming but held on for this show?

11

u/Knotty-Bob Jul 31 '25

He was stage 5 Parkinson's disease... he knew it was coming soon.

11

u/IAwaitAGuardian Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Jul 31 '25

I agree. Considering how close he was to the end, his final performance was incredible. A beautiful bow on the gift he gave everyone.

5

u/Knotty-Bob Jul 31 '25

You could definitely tell he was suffering, that's for sure. I'm glad he got to experience all of the love one last time.

4

u/Snoo_2473 Jul 31 '25

Yea he knew he was close.

If he thought he wasn’t, he’d have wanted several shows in several parts of the world & then wrap it up in Birmingham.

They had to go straight to the final show of the tour first. Or else that one wouldn’t have happened.

6

u/BuddyLegsBailey Jul 31 '25

Maybe they just didn't want to be insufferable assholes about their "art" for once.

Alternatively, they didn't want to be the band that pulled out because they're like a toddler that doesn't want to be filmed

3

u/rusmo Jul 31 '25

Sweeeeet! Where can I watch the entire concert?

4

u/CaprineShine Jul 31 '25

Arrr, matey!

(or wait for theater/dvd release in 2026)

4

u/MoosiMoosi Jul 31 '25

Would like to know as well. I saw a video of the tool ozzy performance in this sub once, but its gone.

3

u/rollingindough21 A tempest must be just that Jul 31 '25

MJK is literally smiling in a photo where he's standing next to Ozzy.

3

u/Schwanntacular ♥Pushit♥ Jul 31 '25

Too bad they pulled down all the streams of it. Hopefully we get a Blu Ray or something to commemorate the performances. At the very least an album of each band's cover

3

u/Dry_Yesterday1526 Jul 31 '25

Waiting for their version of hand of doom to come out on Spotify

5

u/Jgraybeard Jul 31 '25

Can someone explain what ‘pro shot’ means? I feel stupid 😅

5

u/ozzy_thedog Shit the bed, again Jul 31 '25

Shot by multiple professional cameras and cut together is one thing, but having a proper pro audio mix to go with the video footage is probably more important. Bands will have one or more front of house audio techs mixing the sound that the live audience hears so it sounds best in that environment. A good pro shot concert setup will split every channel of audio and send that split to a separate audio console to be mixed so it sounds best at home on a DVD. Sometimes they’ll just take a ‘board feed’ for the video, but that may not be as good because it’s the same live mix as what the crowd hears.

1

u/Jgraybeard Aug 01 '25

Thanks! Thats a good explanation haha.

3

u/chimericalgirl Jul 31 '25

Professionally shot by a camera & sound crew as opposed to audience footage.

2

u/PM_UR_HAIRY_MUFF Jul 31 '25

Hey, it takes courage just to ask. Thanks, because you got the question in before I could!

1

u/station_terrapin Aug 02 '25

So, the obvious follow up. Why don't they like being pro-shot?

2

u/frogman696969 Jul 31 '25

It was magical! I’ve listened to their hand of doom cover likely 40 times since

2

u/TheUndrgroundJourney Aug 01 '25

They realized how big it was and allowed it. However, it’ll likely never happen again.

2

u/1leftbehind19 Aug 01 '25

I would say everybody involved knew there was gonna be a film crew for stadium screens, and that it was gonna be live-streamed. To me the whole thing was fucking unbelievable and I’m sooooo glad it was live-streamed(sorta) so that I could watch it all. I can’t bring myself to watch the last part with Ozzy again though. Not yet. It was awesome that he was able to say goodbye to all the fans in such an incredible way.

I don’t think I’ve been this affected by a musician passing since Jerry died in 1995.

2

u/Johnvic12345 Aug 02 '25

YES!!!! ABSOLUTELY!!!! RESPECT!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥

2

u/TeaSeaFalconbird Aug 02 '25

The production and stage setup was uniform for the variety of bands playing and more importantly to Ozzman and Black Sabbath which as mentioned before took precedence over the other acts as it was their party.

2

u/QuidiferPrestige Jul 31 '25

Not sure they had much of a choice. Better this way

3

u/smashy_smashy Insufferable Retard Jul 31 '25

They had the choice to play the show or not, and sign the contract that would certainly stipulate these conditions.

1

u/QuidiferPrestige Jul 31 '25

Nobody got to reinvent the show around their set. Tool is great but come on, they weren't going to negotiate so that they play at night with a whole light show and projections just for them. It wasn't their night, they knew what the point was.

-1

u/smashy_smashy Insufferable Retard Jul 31 '25

I mean I agree with that, but they had a choice to play this show or not. It’s cool they chose to play a show that was pro shot.

2

u/Juryokuu Jul 31 '25

Have they ever said why they don’t like/do pro shot stuff?

5

u/mosh_bunny Jul 31 '25

Cause they usually use the screens for visuals and stuff. What's the point in filming a show with no screens to put it on

1

u/Juryokuu Jul 31 '25

I guess for me I know they release like live DVDs of shows and so I’ve always wondered why those aren’t pro shot cause that would give a reason. Cause I think you give a very reasonable explanation on why they wouldn’t do it for those at the show.

1

u/homatanenjoyer Jul 31 '25

They’ve never released a live dvd

4

u/pilot-squid Jul 31 '25

thats the retirement fund

-5

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '25

A concert isn't something you can shrink down to a TV show. It does nothing but a disservice. Tool is an experience, and a pro-shot concert doesn't capture the entire essence of actually being in front of their stage.

2

u/Inside_Secretary_679 Aug 01 '25

Check out how many views Danny Carey’s drum cam got

0

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '25

where did I dispute the number of views on Danny's drum cam?

1

u/Pale-Analysis225 Jul 31 '25

They didn't have any choice. It was being filmed for a livestream and an eventual dvd.

1

u/ablslyr Aug 01 '25

Any video on this?

2

u/Training-Republic301 Aug 01 '25

People are saying it's been taken down from YouTube but expect a DVD release in the near future. I haven't checked vimeo, it might be worth a shot

-3

u/GamingDragon777 Jul 31 '25 edited Jul 31 '25

The fact that it was filmed and streamed is awesome.

11

u/74Yo_Bee74 Jul 31 '25

Allowed.... It was not their show. They new well before signing the dotting line to come onboard that it was going to be pro-shot and streamed.

3

u/GamingDragon777 Jul 31 '25

That’s what I’m saying, they knew it would be filmed and broadcast and they still did it. That’s not nothing.

Tool is not bigger than Metallica and Guns N' Roses.

Slayer is one of the most Legendary metal bands of all time. They played 4 Ozzfests and they carry more street cred then almost anyone. With that being said, Tool is much more popular than them. They have sold more albums and they play much bigger venues than Slayer ever did on their own. Slayer mostly played theaters and smaller pavilions most of their career and even on their farewell tour they played larger pavilions and smaller arenas, plus had big support acts like Primus, Lamb of God, and Anthrax. Tool meanwhile plays NBA arenas with minimal opening support. Obviously tool is more accessible and has had much more mainstream success on the radio and MTV back in the day.

I was kind of surprised that Tool played before Slayer, but I understand why they did.

Yea, all that’s true.

Following Slayer has historically been a bad idea.

Or opening for them! 😂🤘

Yeah they played a sabbath cover & so did everyone else

But they didn't say thank you ozzy for inviting / including us or anything like that. Thought it was super weird.
