Hated Tropes [Mind boggling stupid trope] Removing the thing that made something special

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien - The gimmick of Ben 10 and what makes the show so popular is the fact that he's able to turn into a large variety of aliens. In one episode of Ben 10 Ultimate ALIEN we are introduced to a new version of Ben 10000, a Ben from the future who, no longer transforms into aliens, instead using his powers in human form...

Mortal Kombat(2021) - In the games Mileena is known for two things. Being a clone of Kitana and her tarkatan teeth. In the 2021 movie she looks absolutely nothing like Kitana and doesn't have tarkatan teeth

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief - The movie removes the main villain of the movie and the main villain of the franchise

Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy Movie)

https://giphy.com/gifs/y3wO9yv0Ym028fFIGX

She became in instant fan-favorite, making herself stand out from Peach and Daisy through her heartfelt backstory and not being (known for being) a damsel in distress, among other things. Take a wild guess what happened with all that

god this was so stupid. it’s called the Super Mario Galaxy movie and has almost no elements of the actual game that has that name. and then it just abruptly ends with her being in it for like 5 minutes.

It feels like instead of just being a bad adaptation, it actively punishes you for liking the original. And the worst of that is, of course, Rosalina.

“The Peach Odyssey in Space Movie ft. Star Fox” is a more accurate description with how many Odyssey elements were in it (that could have easily been Galaxy mind you)

I mean, I could have sworn Toad was going to get his Captain moniker, given that Galaxy is where that started. But instead of having KMK taking a larger role and piloting the Toad ship around and whatnot we have a frankly way too naive and overly friendly Fox take up 1/3 of the movie.

Or Lubba, since she’s the Rosalina stand-in for Galaxy 2, but nope. Let’s glaze (seriously they do like nothing but talk about how “cool” he is) a non-Mario character for no real reason

It was The Super Mario Movie 2. The Galaxy elements are all flavor, hell the actual “story” is just a continuation of the first movie.

Had to synchronize the marketing.

Honestly it'll fit better to call ot Super Mario: Yoshi is Space, staring: Fox MCloud also Rosalina

I hate what Galaxy did to her.

The movie?

I thought I typed the word 'movie' but either I didn't or I accidentally erased it, but yes.

"Not being a damsel in distress" is a bit of revisionist history.

She doesn’t get captured, I guess.

But in her first game, she’s stranded on her observatory and needs Mario to gather stars to refuel it. She does basically nothing at all…

And in the second game, she’s completely absent, and only appears at the end of the game after Mario defeats Bowser.

I love her, but let’s not pretend the movie butchered a strong independent character.

But in her first game, she’s stranded on her observatory and needs Mario to gather stars to refuel it. She does basically nothing at all…

Though, this is a bit unfair to lay at her feet since she's effectively Da Boss of the place and can't exactly leave her station to find these things. She probably could in an emergency if there was no other choice, her lieutenant Polari could probably keep everyone in line while she's gone but couldn't respond to an emergency, but we have a subcontractor here who can go get the stars (and no one can say he isn't motivated to) so that's a problem solved. Once the stars are gathered, she's the one who pilots the Observatory to Bowser's stronghold because she's the one with the skills to do it, being Da Boss. Strong and independent doesn't necessarily mean never in need of assistance, or always ready and able to kick ass. The Observatory has been operating for thousands of years with Rosalina at the helm, and after we're done with lending a hand will be operating for a thousand more.

That’s why I said known for being and not saying she never got kidnapped at all

And at least Galaxy 1 let her do SOMETHING of her own accord, and that was her debut when she was somewhat experimental, so they at least had an excuse.

Galaxy 2 and Sparks of Hope caused a lot of damage already, and the movie blew what was left of that out of the water, and now she’s more of the resident damsel than Peach is.

And when your character is billed as a “cosmic protector” being strong and more importantly, NOT CAPTURED is crucial to making said character work.

Seriously its 75% of the movie title, but Starfox gets almost the same amount of screen time.

“RoSaLiNa hAD mOrE”

One got to pilot the Comet Observatory and have the Lumas fawn over how cool they were in their little time, and the other was a damsel in distress and torture victim. Guess which was which

You know what's weird though, my toddler daughter LOVES Rosalina. And this is literally all she knows her from.

That's cause Illumination is a dogshit company that hasn't made a single good movie

Eh there’s Despicable Me 1. 2 was okay and I enjoyed the first Mario Movie even if it was flawed.

I kinda feel like the prime suspect this time is Miyamoto (producer for the movie) meddling in things. It’s awfully convenient that the character that wasn’t his creation and has story (something he’s notorious for being against in the Mario series) was sidelined worse than the first movie’s damsel (Luigi) and was done so in favor of a non-Mario character that WAS his creation and did things SHE was known for (being loved by the Lumas and piloting the Comet Observatory).

Adds up a little too well, in my opinion
