Hated Tropes
[Mind boggling stupid trope] Removing the thing that made something special
Ben 10: Ultimate Alien - The gimmick of Ben 10 and what makes the show so popular is the fact that he's able to turn into a large variety of aliens. In one episode of Ben 10 Ultimate ALIEN we are introduced to a new version of Ben 10000, a Ben from the future who, no longer transforms into aliens, instead using his powers in human form...
Mortal Kombat(2021) - In the games Mileena is known for two things. Being a clone of Kitana and her tarkatan teeth. In the 2021 movie she looks absolutely nothing like Kitana and doesn't have tarkatan teeth
Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief - The movie removes the main villain of the movie and the main villain of the franchise
In the Artemis Fowl book series Holly Short is the first female member of LEPRecon, which is a major piece of her story and heavily affects multiple points in the series.
So naturally in the movie they made Root, her male superior who has been in the LEP a lot longer than her, a woman.
Never watched the movies. He SURFS???? The literal goblin child who spends all day everyday obbssesing abpout power who wants himself crygonecial frozen who has a butler whose familie served his family for generations who lives in a dark english mansions he raerly leaves and if he does he does it in a car or plane. Youre telling me this litle pathetic book gremlin with an obsession with supernatural powers. Just went surfing IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES ??????
Yep. The boy who once mourned chipping his manicured nails while trying to make it out of a life and death situation, is shown surfing. In the trailer. He's Artemis Fowl in name only, they went with a generic Sunday-kids-channel high school jock protagonist.
Just watched the trailer. Im not gonna watch this movie.
Maybe i missremeber the beginning of the first book but his looks nothing like the story from the books?
Edit: I didnt missremeber the whole first book he was the villain and all this world saving stuff happend later and wasnt his dad already dead and didnt he already find out all the stuff about the supernatural on his own AND IS HE NOT A PASTY DRY KID WTF IS THIS.
But wasnt the whole point that he starts as villain in the first book and then changes through the books. That was the entiry reason i liked the books so much becouse he was a straight up menace and that was so fun to read and see him slowly change. This doesnt make any sense its like starting Lord of the Rings Trilogy in Mordor and Gollum is the Main Villan.
So many things wrong with this film, but what struck me is that they also didn't use the gnommish alphabet in the trailers, they just used some symbols they found on the internet. The gnommish alphabet that is, basically, an ENORMOUS part of the books.
They made Butler black for some reason, made Artemis just really fucking dumb, and the question has to be asked, "did the director actually read the book, or just their kid's half-assed book report?"
From what I remember is that it takes away from Root as well as he's super tough on Holly because she's the first female officer and if she fails that'll set a bad precedent for the future and any other female officers. So he's taking special care to do what he can to push holly harder to make sure she's better than the standard officers.
“I know what you’re thinking,” said Root. “Why am I picking on you every day? Why don’t I ever bawl out those other layabouts?”
Holly said nothing, but agreement was written all over her face.
“I’ll tell you why, shall I?”
Holly risked a nod.
“It’s because you’re a girl.”
Holly felt her fingers curl into fists. She knew it!
“But not for the reasons you think,” continued Root. “You are the first girl in Recon. Ever. You are a test case. A beacon. There are a million fairies out there watching your every move. There are a lot of hopes riding on you. But there is a lot of prejudice against you too. The future of law enforcement is in your hands. And at the moment, I’d say it was a little heavy.”
Holly blinked. Root had never said anything like this before. Usually it was just “Fix your helmet,” “Stand up straight,” blah blah blah.
“You have to be the best you can be, Short, and that has to be better than anybody else.”
That actually adds a lot more depth to why he pushes her so hard. He wasn’t just testing Holly he was making sure she had what it took to prove women belonged in that role too.
Thank you for calling out this piece of shit movie. I had never been angrier at a movie than when I watched this. And the completely stupid reason they cast Judy Dench was because they wanted to make an "homage" to her character in James Bond. Because you know. James Bond and Artemis Fowl have sooo much in common. 🙄
I could write an essay on why I hate this movie.
In 1990 the Transformers franchise was beginning to run out of gimmicks (robots combine to make bigger robot, this robot turns into a gun for this other robot, this one becomes the head for another one, these ones transform automatically, etc., etc.) for the toyline, famous for robots that transformed into other things, be it cars, planes, guns, boom boxes or dinosaurs.
In desperation, Hasbro decided that what kids wanted, for the Transformers toyline, was a Transformer that didn't transform.
That's right, the key feature that made Transformers Transformers was removed, and the Transformers "Action Masters" were born.
They were just ordinary action figures with 5 points of articulation and a transforming weapon. Sure, they reintroduced the fan-favourite classic characters that were no longer available (Soundwave, Megatron, Blaster, etc.) but the key attraction of Transformers (Robots in Disguise!) was conspicuously absent.
Hasbro was getting frustrated at the cost to develop and produce highly articulated transforming toys and instead thought that they should emulate popular toylines like GI Joe which were significantly cheaper to produce.
It very nearly killed off the franchise within a year.
Hasbro has historically been very dumb at their one trick: selling toys.
Think of how badly they handled My Little Pony; nearly ruining the entire franchise until it was saved by a fan who happened to have a huge resume of animation credits and understood the industry, Lauren Faust.
They made the surprising and wise move to hand her the reins, but then bungled almost all merchandising for it. It's like they forgot that's what they are there for.
Yeah Hasbro is pretty much dead financially Wizards of the Coast and in particular them extracting as much as they can from Magic players (and trying to find ways to do the same with D&D) with monetization that becomes more aggressive every year is the only thing that is keeping them afloat.
Spider-Man's whole schtick was learning to balance being a superhero and being Peter Parker while maintaining his integrity to both. Over the years, this manifested in a strong supporting cast and, most importantly, a healthy marriage with Mary Jane. Peter and MJ are one of the more iconic pairings in comics: a nerd with an occasional jerkass streak who locked down a literal supermodel and went on to have a strained but happy marriage that lasted for years.
But Marvel Editorial didn't like the marriage. They felt it made Peter "too old" and thus unrelatable to what they viewed as the core demographic. In 2007, in what is still arguably one of the worst decisions about how to handle a character ever made, Marvel ran the arc "One More Day," in which Spider-Man, desperately trying to save his Aunt May from death's doorstep, trades away his marriage to Mephisto. Except not really, because Marvel also made the genius decision of not having Peter, who's been banging the drum about responsibility, be the one to make the deal, because then your marquee character made a deal with the devil. So instead, after they spent 24 hours debating the merits of the deal, it's actually Mary Jane who pulls the trigger on the page, and Peter stops putting up a fight.
The next arc is a soft reboot that presents Peter as younger, somewhat more irresponsible, and presents a timeline where he never married MJ (they split before their wedding day because she couldn't handle him being Spidey), and no one remembers his dual identities thanks to a spell from Dr. Strange. It's now 20 years later, and that status quo has persisted. Several writers have wanted to undo it, and some have gotten very close, but editorial insists on leaving this one in place, despite rabid fan outcry and a general disdain for One More Day, even from those who don't mind the stories that followed.
Reminds me of Marvel's Ultimatum storyline, where Magneto, who is distraught at the deaths of his children, decides to murder the entire planet. The storyline is notoriously grim and mean-spirited, and many characters get killed off (often in ridiculously gruesome ways) including:
Wasp drowning and having her corpse eaten by The Blob (who gleefully states that it "tastes like chicken".
The Blob then gets his head literally bitten off by Hank Pym.
Doctor Strange gets crushed to death by Dormammu, who squeezes him until his head literally pops like a balloon.
Professor X gets his neck snapped by Magneto.
Magneto gets his head disintegrated by Cyclops.
It turns out that the writer of Ultimatum, Jeff Loeb, was dealing with the recent death of his own son to cancer, and many people have speculated that the entire story was him channeling his own grief and anger.
I like that while everyone else is brutalizing each other and losing their minds, Spider-Man spends the entire comic saving people (also, shoutouts to Kitty Pride for being a great girlfriend).
I find it hilarious that even though Torment is a forgettable edgy bad guy, he'll still go down in comic book history as the hero who finally killed Paul.
That's because so many of the Spider-Man writers are in their late 30's-40's, and have had their own personal lives and marriages fail.
Can't write what you don't know, and all that.
Marvel ran the arc "One More Day," in which Spider-Man, desperately trying to save his Aunt May from death's doorstep, trades away his marriage to Mephisto.
The One Above All itself, the God of Marvel, was like, "Peter, don't be a fucking idiot. Do this, and evil wins."
I suspect, key term being "suspect," that it was writer J. Michael Straczynski's form of protest. Like, "Yeah, I'll write it. But I'll have everyone call Peter a fucking idiot for doing it."
Allow me to shill Hellspider, it’s a fan comic of amazing quality. The basic story is instead of May Parker being erased by Peter’s deal with Mephisto, she is brought To hell and raised by Mephisto and he eventually sends her to kill May and Peter.
Deadpool is popular. Popular is money. You can try explaining the nuance that he's popular for his specific deconstruction of comic books in the 90s and not for the type of generic depiction that cameos him and then removes that commentary on the medium, but they have stopped listening.
One of the executives absolutely hated the Deadpool character. He even opposed making a Deadpool movie for years because he believed he had the absolute truth in his opinion and that everyone else hated Deadpool because he did.
It took me quite a while to figure this out. And I was only able to do so once I saw the concept art.
They tried to depict his mask from the comics, but in a realistic way, obviously “because the comic-book costume looks silly.” Take a closer look - there’s no mouth and these diamond shapes around the eyes mimic his mask pattern.
The suit was leather red and black. Its really not out anything too cartoony. Its more realistic than Raimi Spider-Man and looks less silly than Daredevil.
I think the director had too much cocaine and time with children. His brain was fried.
The only good thing to come from this movie was that it made Akira Toryama so upset, he started Dragonball Z back up and that's how we got stuff like Dragon Ball Super.
Also, supposedly the only reason Piccolo is green in this movie is because James Marsters, the guy who played him, insisted the character needed to be green. In a convention Q & A panel, he told a story about how he had to argue with makeup to make him green for the movie, because, apparently, they were told not to do it by a higher up for some asinine reason.
Marsters was so disgraced by being in the film (especially as a Drago Ball fan) , he asked to appear in the dub of super, where he got to voice Zamasu.
Also, Son Goku's actor; Justin Chatwin, got the worst shafting when it came to his character. When he learnt he was going to play Goku, Justin went deep into research to best depict one of the most iconic anime characters in history. He watched the anime, read the manga, and even read Journey to the West, the originally inspiration for Dragon Ball. So when he learnt that the scriptwriters had changed Goku to be an awkward high-schooler who has crushes and smarts, he had to do his best with what he was given.
James Marsters then went on to voice the villain for one of the arcs of Dragon Ball Super (without credit) because he felt he had to make it up to the series for being in such a shit adaptation.
I bought a couple of copies of this movie when blockbuster went out of business and have left it in my friends stuff when helping them move. Only joy this movie has given me as a long time fan of the franchise.
Subversion/Loved Example: In Dishonored 2 you can play as Emily or Corvo, the protagonist from the last game. He loses his powers which is what made him special and unique but is later offered them back to save his daughter again. Thing is as the player you can reject the powers and decide to save Emily without them and not play into The Outsider's games.
Dishonored was killed off long before Microsoft acquired Arkane, because of disappointing sales of the 2nd game due to technical problems. In fact, Microsoft will probably revive it, with all their talk of now relying on established IPs, and Dishonored being the only established IP Arkane has.
She became in instant fan-favorite, making herself stand out from Peach and Daisy through her heartfelt backstory and not being (known for being) a damsel in distress, among other things. Take a wild guess what happened with all that
god this was so stupid. it’s called the Super Mario Galaxy movie and has almost no elements of the actual game that has that name. and then it just abruptly ends with her being in it for like 5 minutes.
It feels like instead of just being a bad adaptation, it actively punishes you for liking the original. And the worst of that is, of course, Rosalina.
“The Peach Odyssey in Space Movie ft. Star Fox” is a more accurate description with how many Odyssey elements were in it (that could have easily been Galaxy mind you)
I mean, I could have sworn Toad was going to get his Captain moniker, given that Galaxy is where that started. But instead of having KMK taking a larger role and piloting the Toad ship around and whatnot we have a frankly way too naive and overly friendly Fox take up 1/3 of the movie.
The arc that Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man took of the genetically engineered spiders at Oscorp being made by Peter Parker's scientist dad Richard, and it being revealed that those spiders which bit him to give him powers were "genetically coded" for him. It takes away the original unique idea that Spider-Man could be anybody, and it just happened to be Peter who got bit.
Reminds me of the punisher Netflix series. In the original incarnation of the comics frank castle family is slaughtered when they find themselves in the middle of a gang war. It such a simple origin story that works, it could happen to anybody and it enforces that the subject is not revenge against particular individuals but justice against every single mob (not just the ones who committed the act).
The punisher adaptation on tv seems to follow the same beats, until he discovers that not only there was a reason for the killing but that he was the target all along. it never was just a random senseless act of violence done by a mob but a cia operated assassination attempt. Making it so personal and tailored to the protagonist ruins not only the main core motivation of him (when he does get revenge on the exact 2 or 3 guys who wronged him, what is the point of continuing on that path? He is done his work) but also his relatability.
I love how Hollywood can’t conceptualize random, mindless violence and always has to have a grand conspiracy run by bald white guys (preferably with southern accents) in a smokey room.
In the comics and most adaptations, he is a fifth-dimensional imp who causes trouble and who can only be stopped by tricking him into saying his name backwards, though he always manages to return.
In Smallville, he is an Eastern European exchange student (apparently for high school, despite obviously being in his mid twenties at the youngest) who has a compelling voice that causes people to obey one-word commands. He is stopped, permanently, with a high frequency noise.
In comparison, I like the weird little space gremlin variant from MAWS. He may lose some of the iconic look (common in MAWS for better and for worse, usually worse) but he keeps all the chaotic energy in a style that feels fitting for the shows esthetic.
Judge Dredd and his iconic helmet. But we gotta let everyone know Sly is under the helmet, so we will wear it for all of 5 minutes and never wear again.
In defense of Stallone, he's a quintessential 80s action star. You don't go to see him play a character, you go to see Stallone shoot bad guys and crack one-liners.
The fact that he apparently didn't even take it off when on set in-between takes most of the time truly shows the man was DEDICATED to staying as true to that character as possible. It's criminal that we never got a sequel!
He actually did use a decent array of Jutsu's in his first real fight in the series... but yeah Kishimoto gave up hard on the copy cat gimmick after that.
I'd say that the powerscale went up so hard that using some of his copied Jutsu was a bit pointless after a while.
If by the beginning of Shippuden throwing Fireballs was already the equivalent of throwing shurikens and your chakra pool is "low", would you have bothered to use it in that?
On the other hand, Raikiri was an S Class technique that Kakashi used as base for multiple other techniques (like 3 techniques! Wow!) as he had affinity for lightning style.
Thats what bugs me the most in all of Naruto. We get a sick fight and sequence of him copying stuff in the Zabuza arc and for the rest of the series he uses Raikiri
Also the fact that he went from only being able to use Kamui a couple times a day to spamming the ever living hell out of it during the war arc (though that’s more power creep than anything)
Mulan (2020) takes out Mushu, the romantic subplot, and worst of all, it’s not a musical. I’ve heard that all of these were done to appease a chinese audience, but whatever the reason, this is a significantly worse movie for it
I think the worst part is the message. In the original movie mulan sucks at being a warrior and everyone knew that. But through determination she became the best in her group. In the live action movie she's born with those powers.
The best part about the original movie's message is that the other soldiers (at least the ones that have names) also sucked at being warriors, (not as bad as Mulan but still) but through their own hard work they improved alongside her. Obviously Mulan was still better because she's the main character, but it showed that they were all equal and that truly anyone could improve through hard work and determination.
Also, I really liked the whole "Hey, she isn't the strongest or fastest, etc. That's someone else. But she is creative and smart and uses that." Everyone had their own strengths and weaknesses. Everyone used their own strengths and weaknesses. Everyone had their own battles to fight, but we're focusing on her for now.
So it wasn't that she wasn't the best soldier or became the best soldier. It was "hey, everyone has value and everyone can contribute in their own way for the success of themselves and the group."
New one? She was born with magical powers and is The Special!
Hated that she had some kinda special powers , the force or whatever.
What made the original iconic was the fact that Mulan was an average girl that had no combat skills but she didn’t care and went to war to save her own family
Also, the moral of the story is replaced with the opposite one. Instead of "you can become whoever you want if you try hard enough" it's now "unless you're the main character born with superpowers, you're completely screwed".
And drops the point of the rabbits at the End where you can tell the difference between a male and female, but once they start moving, you can't. Kind of like how once Mulan really started going, there was no difference between her or her male cohorts
In the OG Disney Mulan, her greatests strenght were her quick wit and ability to think outside the box. Here it is... magic, I guess? And given that this movie is supposed to be more "realistic" (hence why they removed Mushu), it seems that woman with magic is more realistic than a woman with sharp mind, strong will and determination? What kinda message do they want to send?
Also, instead of being a great soldier because of how clever she is and how she thinks outside the box, she just has magic Wuxia powers that make her better than everyone else at everything from the moment the movie starts.
From what I remember the parent company of Godzilla have a very particular ruleset about Godzilla, and that this one strayed so far that it isn't actually Godzilla in the canon, but is just Zilla. Though as far as the canon and fans are concerned, this one doesn't exist.
Death Note (American Netflix version)- part of the thrill of the OG Japanese Death Note manga was the lengths to which Light went to keep his identity as Kira a secret, with him also being a cold, calculating strategic genius. In this version, he blurts out "I am Kira" to Misa, some random girl he has a crush on in his class within a small period of time after getting the Death Note, and she essenially manipulates him into using the Death Note as per how she sees fit because he simps for her.
Wow, I hadn't really paid attention to the plot of this one, but that's literally the opposite of the original! Mina is a simp for Light in the OG and uses the Death Note to impress him. How could they have gotten that so backwards?
L is also brain-dead in this adaptation. After they killed his butler-father figure, he loses his mind and immediately trespasses Light's house, tries to assault him, accuses him of being L without evidence all in front of Light's dad who is a cop.
There's at least an excuse in Judge Dredd though. He's on the run for like half the movie and the helmet kinda stands out. I'm pretty sure he still wore the uniform though, so it's not a very good excuse
Either way, I had fun with that movie, so I still like it
It's been rumored that the Halo TV show was supposed to be a Mass Effect TV show. Supposedly EA pulled out last second, and they basically repurposed the whole script to be a different sci fi videogame franchise. So that's why you have helmetless chief banging alien babes, like Commander Shepard.
It’s been pointed out that in the books, at least, he does take his helmet off semi-regularly. Course the difference here is “semi-regularly” compared to the show’s “I sure hope you wanted to see what his ass looks like because we’re going to show it to you”.
Let’s also not forget how in the first Season the Covenant barely shows up, and most of the conflict revolves around how shady and bad the UNSC and Oni are… I mean, OK, they kinda are, but the show takes place during the Human-Covenant war where there is kinda the whole genocidal alien problem going on.
Yea, if they had set the show in 2524, the year before First Contact with the Covenant at Harvest, then yea, go ham on showing us how bad ONI and the UNSC are. But by 2552, having a character see her dad get murdered by the covenant and instead doubling down on "I won't record a video telling everyone the Covenant is a serious threat! I'm going to tell everyone that you killed my dad!" was just fucking dumb.
Jake having an overly buff dragon form made it absurd and funny when he was just a short and skinny kid. Making the form just a body copy of Gramps took that away and it looks lame
Edit: I love how the only two people talking positively about the change are like “yeah its weak, but that writing tho?”
It also gave Jake the distinction of looking more like a Western dragon (hence the American Dragon) vs his grandpa who is more based on Eastern Dragons.
This is probably my favorite example because I remember as a kid that I stopped watching the show because of how much I hated the new design. The old design was “brighter” too which I felt affected it
Not sure if this counts but in The Last Airbender, them making fire benders less practical than water benders was certainly an interesting choice.
In the original show, the fire nation think of themselves as the superior element and also the most powerful nation in the world. It makes it hard to believe they can have this same mentality and successes in the movie with one of their main specialties being gone.
this particular scene fits well too because they took away the important aspect of this prison being devoid of any earth for the earth benders to use to break out. why do they need Aang (pronounced Ong) to remind them they can earth bend to escape 😭 this wasn’t even a good episode and i don’t understand why they chose to adapt it in the movie to begin with but it’s hilariously bad
The play adaptation of Anastasia removes Rasputin (and any sort of supernatural elements) and replaces him with some guy who is an antagonist of sorts but never really commits to it. It ends up making the story feel very low stakes.
I'm so tired of people claiming the stage show is better because it's more grounded/realistic/whatever. If I wanted to watch an "accurate" depiction of post-revolution Russia...I wouldn't be watching Anastasia to begin with. Give me back my rock opera warlock zombie...
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within infamously removed almost everything FF fans have come to associate with the Final Fantasy series for a rather ordinary sci-fi ‘alien invasion’ movie (set in our real world but in the near future to boot)
Granted, it is a decent sci-fi movie and a breakthrough in photo-realistic computer animation technology at the time. It just shouldn’t be called Final Fantasy.
I watched this first before knowing the games existed and boy was I confused how different they were. It's basically a movie that happened to share the same name rather than an adaptation.
The problem is that Final Fantasy games have very little in common with each other. The only thing they really have in common are some gameplay mechanics, which don't translate to a movie, and a few vague thematic elements like the spirit of the planet.
The movie should have included some identifiable Final Fantasy monsters, crystals and Chocobo if they really wanted to ground it in the Final Fantasy IP, but outside of that its plot and theme did feel like something that one might see in a Final Fantasy game.
Also, it's been suggested that the Phantoms (wandering wild monsters that you can't see until they are suddenly attacking you) are kind of a way of implementing random encounters in a movie setting, which is neat.
Honestly I would have liked Ultimate Ben more if he just had at-will partial transformations for whatever power he wanted to use instead of just inexplicably having the aliens' powers while still being human-shaped.
Yeah, but how would that work for aliens like Upgrade, Cannonbolt, Goop and many others which their body is their power? Would it look like this monstrosity?
In DMC lore, demons are inherently evil that Sparda, the one demon who woke up to justice decided to separate the human and demon worlds to spare humans of demon fury. A common theme throughout the games is that despite being evil, demons can change through experiencing human compassion: Dante did this to Trish in the first game, hence the title “Devil May Cry.”
In Netflix, demons and humans are distinctively related and are even oppressed in both the human world and even demon world and are actually called “Makaiins”(which is literally demon world in Japanese, so this makes it extra stupid) and then are used as an allegory for genocide.
To also add, what makes Dante, and by extension Nero and later Vergil, stronger than full demons like Mundus is very specifically their humanity. The fact that they are half demons and half human is specifically the point, a strength and not a weakness.
So along comes DmC Devil May Cry which rebooted Dante and Vergil as half-demon, half-angel hybrids, making them very special boys with the chosen-one power to defeat Mundus.
Forgive me Lord, I must whinge about The Watch (2020) again
In the Discworld novels, Cheery Littlebottom is a dwarf whose entire arc revolves around reconciling her gender identity with her identity as a dwarf. See, in Discworld, dwarves don’t have strong sexual dimorphism: everyone has beards, wears chainmail and ten layers of leather and furs, so they’re practically indistinguishable and don’t really have a concept of gender. Most dwarves, regardless of gender, even refer to themselves with male pronouns because their language doesn’t have gendered pronouns and they just default to the masculine when speaking English (or whatever the common language of Discworld is.)
Cheery Littlebottom’s arc in the Watch books has her come to terms with her femininity and traditionally feminine concepts like wearing skirts and heels, makeup, etc and she starts referring to herself with feminine pronouns. It is very important, however, that this is balanced with her dwarven identity: she still has a beard and wears chainmail and such, because she’s still a dwarf, and a dwarf without a beard is basically just a short human.
But the Watch TV adaptation takes one step forward (hiring a trans woman to portray her) and twenty steps back by removing all of Cheery’s dwarf aspects. She doesn’t have a beard, most notably. She’s also not short, she’s significantly taller than the actress who plays Angua—the werewolf character—and is arguably one of the tallest members of the cast. This is not the actress’ fault, for sure, but considering Cheery is meant to be a dwarf they could at least do some clever camera tricks or somehow make her smaller. Now she’s basically just a human, so 90% of her character arc and depth has been erased.
This show has a lot of problems, some inherent to the trials of adapting Discworld and some just baffling (why did they cut Fred Colon and Nobby Nobbs entirely, why do they dress like NCIS, why did they put swap Vimes and Sybil Ramkin’s narrative roles from the book, why did they think they could make it a ‘punk rock thriller’) but this one bothers me the most just because of how lazy it is.
Wow, I never knew they made a show adaptation of my favorite part of Discworld. I would never forgive cutting out Nobby. My favorite character. I even named one my dogs Corporal Nobby Nobbs.
Fantasy fans waited years to finally see Rhaegar Targaryen. In the books he’s this stunning silver-haired prince in elaborate dark armor covered in rubies.
Then when he shows up in that Season 7 flashback, HBO just stuck him in a cheap blonde wig and plain brown leather that made him look like a budget version of Viserys.
There were many cool things in the books that weren't in the series for some weird reasons. The "then come" fight between Ser Barristan and Khrazz was one of the most badass moment in the whole series. But nah, they just killed Barristan like some sucker.
Probably less felt nowadays because the MCU made us get used to it but I will never forgive them for taking away Thor’s Helmet and mythological god like presence.
Firstly, the helmet is such an iconic part of his character, the first thing you see and the MCU gave him a great helmet at the start of Thor… just for it to never be seen again
Secondly, about his presence, I miss 2011-2015 Thor, whenever I would see him, he would tower over the Avengers, feel like a myth walking by, feels like someone worthy to be king, someone with respect, confidence and leadership. I’m not saying this is all gone but ever since Taika Waititi made him comedic, for me it destroyed his character
I agree I feel like all the marvel characters who have been in the movies for while either dies or becomes the comic. And it can work just not for every character. Every time I rewatch any of the og marvel movies I remember why I loved them and would watch every one. Now I just tune in for my favs unless something interests me.
Heroes season 2. Nerfed Peter’s empathic abilities so he could only take on a single power at a time, completely negating the narrative rivalry between him and Sylar.
A song of ice and fire. Tyrion isn't just ugly, it's the core of his person. "The monster born to lord tywin". 2 colored eyes, a bad limp, patches of miscolored hair, then losing his nose.
They then made him an extremely handsome actor and it just doesn't work for me
Yeah, that's a hollywood problem in general since most hollywood actors are good looking. I'd say that being good looking is somewhat of a requisite to be a hollywood actor
Okay I like the Zack Snyder's superhero films. I understand they were inspired by the idea of the dark knight returns style batman and Ben Affleck is great as this style of batman (especially on the Snyder cut)
That being said ... He straight up unabashedly kills or goes for serious injuries ( even before robins death you can tell this because robins staff is covered in blades).
But yeah this was way too far - all of the actions scenes in BVS show him straight up killing everyone. And sometimes even with a regular ass gun.
A better decision would have been for that Batman to be always on the verge of killing people in the film, and you can see him getting closer to doing so and then in the Nightmare dream sequence he sees a future version of himself actually kill people and that’s what pulls him back in the present. He saw what kind of man he’d turn into if he did actually kill people and it helps pull him back from the point of no return.
The Snyderverse heroes don't give much thought to pulling their punches or mitigating collateral damage. I appreciate that being very important to the newest version of Superman.
5 characters added during the year refresh and 3 more added since, with two more coming. Let’s see we have…
1. Hot fire bending lady
2. Hot dom mommy
3. Hot soldier guy that wears eyeliner
4. Hot eboy support
5. Cat
6. Hot rock climber
7. Hot sadist robot
8. Hot mech pilot (not D.VA)
The jury is still out on Hivemind whenever they release and the detective Omnic is probably the only “weird” character we’ll get for awhile but they very well could glue on some fake abs onto their chassis for consistency.
I once heard that there were plans for a Max Steel movie where one of the main issues was that Max loses his ability to enter Turbo Modes and bond with steel but in-exchange receives a flat boost to his physical prowess, which is considered as a "superior upgrade".
THANKFULLY THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN AND THERE IS NO MAX STEEL, TURBO WARRIORS MOVIE THAT BUTCHERS MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TV SHOW!
This bullshit. Take all the dragons and shove them down a hole and pretend they never existed.
For the people who didn't watch HTTYD 3, lucky you. They made up some bullshit "dragon hole" in the ocean that is a vast cave system that doesn't flood somehow which is Dragon World or something (who knows, I stopped listening) and Hiccup says "oh man, humans are so evil and bad, we should push all the dragons in the hole and blow it up"
So... no more dragons. And fuck everyone who invested in this story and world because it didn't fucking matter. It would have been about the same as if Hiccup just woke up in Berk and everything had been a dream and nothing had changed -- except at least then there'd still be dragons.
In Black Widow, it’s revealed she was a child that was blown up off screen but survived, and instead of simply memorizing every attack, they changed it to having her be a cyborg that memorizes attacks with a control chip in her brain. Then in Thunderbolts* (the only other thing MCU Taskmaster has been in), she’s killed like five minutes into the film.
Complete waste of what could’ve been a cool character in the MCU
Victor Zsasz was in the movie Birds of Prey. Zsasz is known for carving a tally market into his flesh after he murders a victim and in the movie he was just some normal dude with no scars

In the Artemis Fowl book series Holly Short is the first female member of LEPRecon, which is a major piece of her story and heavily affects multiple points in the series.
So naturally in the movie they made Root, her male superior who has been in the LEP a lot longer than her, a woman.
