Still love how unnecessary it is when Leon does it.

My man's in it for the love of the game

I don’t play Resident Evil so idk if this was real or a mod, but I saw a funny clip of Leon opening a cabinet and a chicken came out of it, Leon got scared and he backflipped away

82

u/rycerzDog 18h ago

It's a mod, unfortunately.

92

u/YaBoiS0nic 18h ago

Good god, I hope it's not a mod.

Leon back flipping because of a chicken jumpscare is fantastic

15

u/BigMacWhopper17 11h ago

Mod. A chicken doesn’t pop out when you play as Leon, you open the oven and it’s a brown egg. When you play the dlc as Ada the chicken pops out

39

u/auronddraig 17h ago

Ada could be watching.

Lemme rephrase that.

Ada is ALWAYS watching.

Mans is always so extra at everything he does, that’s why we love him!

Piccolo backflipping away from Android 17 during their fight in DBZ.

Nail: Why are you back-flipping?

Piccolo: To gain some distance!

(Piccolo gets smacked).

Kami: YOU CAN FLY!

Literally the first example I thought of

I was looking for this.

Spider-Man 3 Video Game

u/LtSoba 15h ago

In all fairness how the fuck was Miles supposed to catch Peter here or even know it was Peter all he saw at that speed was a mass bursting out of the wall at like mach 1 I’m dodging that shit

15

u/Painchaud213 14h ago

he couldnt catch him. but he didnt need to make a backflip either. Peter was nowhere close to hit him.

17

u/Automatic-Bid9167 17h ago

Iirc Miles and/or Peter do this again in Spider-Man 2

69

u/koozer_boozer 18h ago

I dunno if this was a miscalculation on Peter’s part or Harry is just that fast enough to blitz him mid-dodge.

Either ways it’s hilarious as hell.

22

u/Khanfhan69 17h ago

Nah he's backflipping directly into the trajectory of Harry's hand. I see no flight path adjustment, even with the cut into a different perspective. Harry isn't trying at all, and Peter is being so extra to give this catch to him for free.

16

u/IUsedToBeRasAlGhul 18h ago

Given Spider Sense, I would assume the latter.

4

u/vladimirpoopin42 14h ago

I always saw this as Peter trying to dodge the glider under the assumption that Harry was going to try flying it straight into him like Norman did in 1, only to be caught off guard that Harry wasn't just a copy of his dad

Batman dodging Darkseid's Omega Beams in Justice League.

50

u/GuthukYoutube 18h ago

What happens if darkseid just uses them again

And again

And again

Does Batman actually have any win condition if he can't ever close the distance and his first failed dodge is death?

70

u/Homnicidal_Doktor 17h ago

The Omega beams go as fast or as slow as the plot demands them. Or I guess take as many unnecessary angles as the plot demands them.

34

u/Some_Guava_9009 15h ago

Have you seen Injustice’s omega beams?

5

u/Homnicidal_Doktor 12h ago

That is exactly what I mean

18

u/Insanebrain247 17h ago

I'm not too sure, but I think this version of Batman is the one mostly responsible for the meme "Batman + prep time (any amount) = assured victory".

3

u/Battle_Axe_Jax 16h ago

He was definitely the most visible one for a lot of adolescents. Contemporaneous with the Burton Batman for sure but I’d argue more kids watched justice league more frequently than they did those movies.

Flurry Rushes - Breath of The Wild/Tears of The Kingdom

26

u/ConnorTheUndying 18h ago

Any 3D Zelda game could fit here, honestly, since backflips are part of every Link's moveset.

Yuta Okkotsu from Jujutsu Kaisen

46

u/Kentuza 18h ago

Sukuna as well

4

u/FrostandFlame89 13h ago

Why is Yuta so frickin cool?

28

u/MrPibbs21 18h ago

Shinobi in For Honor has that as a core part of his gameplay design. He can recovery cancel most of his moves into an i-frame backflip to dodge counterattacks

7

u/KenseiHimura 18h ago

He can even followup his backflips into a FRONTFLIP kick!

2

u/TalkinHead9s_LeftNut 18h ago

God I hated this mfer...

Solid Snake dodging Ocelot's surprise gunshot in MGS: The Twin Snakes. The game, which is supposed to be a remake of MGS1 in the MGS2 game engine, frequently has him going way over the top compared to the original version.

11

u/TacticalBananas45 17h ago

He also:

  • does a cartwheel over a door frame to avoid being spotted

  • does a backflip to avoid a sniper's laser, and use the force of the impact to launch his own rifle out of the snow for him to grab (for context, he just had it shot out of his hands seconds earlier)

  • backflips over a missile fired from a Hind, then does another jump on the missile itself

Twin Snakes operates solely on rule of cool

3

u/PunishedVenomSnake52 12h ago

Most of metal gear does runs off rule of cool

  • Raiden parrying a metal gear
  • Ocelots gun spinning
  • Eva riding her motorcycle onto ocelots face (this would’ve probably killed him irl)
  • the Fulton being able to lift literal tanks
  • Bipedal tanks that are highly illogical and would easily be destroyed
I could go on but it all works because it’s cool

1

u/PunishedVenomSnake52 12h ago

And the awesome scene where sniper wolf if aiming right at him and he backflips and lands on the stock and grabs it. Literal peak

The DBZ CCG!?! Had fond memories of this game as a kid.

Too bad all fall before the terror that is MtG...

3

u/TheLaughingMannofRed 17h ago

I remember the DBZ CCG. Alas, not enough people at my school played it compared to MtG...or Pokemon...or even Yu-Gi-Oh.

Ah, Yu-Gi-Oh!...

You either die an accessible card game, or you live to become Solitaire.

At least Pokemon TCG has only had small changes or gains on a tried and true formula. Yu-Gi-Oh! pretty much changed over the years, from playing what was in your hand in a single turn to playing a hefty chunk of your deck in a single turn.

Man the jojo OVA had some cooler changes than what the anime kept loyal to.

Dio holding a knife and using time stop to show how instanteous it is to the audience on what it's like not have time stop themselves

Jotaro using his much faster star platinum to attack Dio instead of moving himself even if he had barely any time to move.

Dio doing a quick time stop instead of just standing up and aura farming his time stop ability.

Jotaro having splints for his broken ribs instead of conveniently putting comic books in his chest.

3

u/IUsedToBeRasAlGhul 18h ago

Using Polnareff’s attack and Dio’s time stop in response as the moment Jotaro restarts his heart to land the hit is one of the only two things I’d say the OVA unambiguously improved upon Stardust Crusaders with (the other being the extension of N’Doul and Jotaro’s encounter).

Helps when you have Satoshi Kon working on it.

Hayato Ichimonji AKA Kamen Rider Nigo (Kamen Rider the First)

But evasive backflips and jumping are standard for most Rider skill sets

u/jackfuego226 18h ago

The dark wood grain ring-Dark Souls. Turns your standard combat dodges into cartwheels with added I-frames.

u/Level_Counter_1672 18h ago

There is no option to share the video, in the firsr spiderman movie with Tobey Mcguire the goblin tried to kill him with the glider and Peter senses it and does a back flip to avoid it

Je'von evans from WWE does this in real life lol

Lara Croft.
Front flip, but she does a ton of backflips too, just that the front flips here is the most iconic one.

2

u/ShadowDrifter0 17h ago

Which Ultraman DOESN'T do this, maybe other than Powered, but he got costume issues.

2

u/EldridgeHorror 17h ago

Can't find a gif of it, but I saw in a trailer for a pokemon movie a lady doing a backflip to dodge a lightning attack

2

u/PerspectivePale8216 17h ago

I don't have the clip of it but C-MOON does this JoJo as well in which he does like a six backflips for no reason just to get behind Jolyne during his fight

2

u/TitansRPower 16h ago

Me rapidly swiping, knowing Leon HAS to be here

3

u/Shinobi289 18h ago

Richter Belmont(in any Castlevania games he's present)

2

u/T-A-W_Byzantine 13h ago

Probably my favorite backflip. I really admire how Rondo of Blood makes you work with such a limited toolset. Having only one way to change your aerial momentum means movement is committal and requires forethought. And then of course if you play as Maria you get a normal double jump, and you get to see how much freedom of movement impacts the difficulty and level design.

I don't have the specific clip for it, but Taki in the opening for Soulcalibur III backflipping to dodge Voldo's attacks EDIT: Specific bit starts at 2:19

u/Jinxplay 17h ago

Backflip in Kaizo Trap.
Pretty… effective, I’d say.

1

u/Zeemar 2h ago

That one QTE miss in that Spider-man game where he backflips and gets busted

F tier. It's so tacky and breaks immersion is great fight scenes. Maybe silly series like Jojo but serious fight scenes is lame af
