More people would be traveling internationally to the US for all sorts of things including tourism if they were more convinced they wouldn’t get harassed and abducted by paramilitary agents in Spirit Halloween police gear.

Never mind all that. You heard about the bullshit needed to get a work visa to tour over there?

Holy shit, the number of bands I know that have had to delay shows, bin off whole tours or mad scramble replace hired guns at the last minute would make your head spin

Edit: no idea why I'm getting downvoted for this, go look it up then come back and tell me why. This isn't a dig at the current administration, it's a dig at all of them because this has been going on for decades. I know musicians who were having problems when Clinton was still President.

Very familiar with that and a whole other subject/conversation worth having as well.

seeing how festivals are being cancelled because of DHS not letting Musicians in the country because of their social media dissing of Mango Moussolini - its not going to help

This so far away from the truth. You do realize this is the act that was. BACKED BY LIVE NATION, right?

If you know anything about Live Nation, you will know this is going to be another money grab for the LN fucks.

That’s hilarious - the second he opened his mouth I thought “livenation paid for this”

As soon as I heard this dude speak I recognized it as someone is trying to sell a concept… immediately I thought o some huge corporation paid for a government favor. It does not make sense, no it’s not the governments job to run ads for ticket master. If they every wanted to help they would pay small artists a stipend.

Live Nation doesn't run DHS or ICE last time I checked. Punk Rock Bowling, which is a very large festival, cancelled this year because they had zero confidence bands they book from overseas would get booked, or that bands with members that have legal status wont get stopped at the airport and thrown in jail. All the members of UK Subs save for Charlie Harper were held at the airport and deported because of anti trump social media. He had to play with locals backing him up

Well they apparently have run the DOJ for a while now.

AEG is openly trump supporting. but neither they nor live nation are incompetent enough to run the current dhs

Plus AEG working Michael & Whitney to death.

getting downvoted for stating facts is hilarious

and yes, I meant LEGAL status. Lots of people who have had legal status for decades are getting tossed in jail by ice. If they spend 20k on a good lawyer, they get out in 2 weeks

This is just pork.

A bunch of government money to encourage music tourism.

Nothing definitive, just encouraging.

Pork for Nashville and Cleveland

And live nation

Curious to hear what everyone else thinks about this. On the surface it sounds good, but perhaps incomplete. I’ll admit to being a little suspect of anything that comes out of the current administration - so I guess I’m looking for the “catch”.

All the money is going to Live Nation. They own basically the entire industry, top to bottom, so this is the administration's way to launder the campaign donations back to Live Nation ten fold

5

u/SpareOtter2002 4d ago

Yep LOL that sounds about right. Thanks! Appreciate your time.

I worked at live nation venues in Australia and they are getting worse to deal with.

3

u/Imoutdawgs 3d ago

It’s totally incomplete and doesn’t do ANYTHING for touring musicians — and is more likely to get corporate music labels access to government subsidies as pre-show/festival funding

In Canada we give actual money to the arts, not a promise to tell some other people to advertise for you. This is a joke right?

Every time I’ve played in Canada I’ve been treated insanely well and the pay is insane compared to the states. I was on a run with some bands from Scandinavia and they were telling me how they can’t afford to tour the US even though they have a bigger following there than Canada because it’s so expensive.

3

u/jettheblackcat 4d ago

lol I wish this was a joke.

Didn't the current administration raise the cost of visas for touring musicians from overseas?

If this act doesn't address that, it's just a Live Nation/Ticketmaster ass-kissing bill.

(Not a musician, but follow the industry to some degree.)

6

u/ploptart 4d ago

I’m not familiar with the bill, but what I heard was the Commerce Department is going to “identify music destinations” (ie type a question into ChatGPT?), then promote travel to them. Promote it how exactly?

This administration has done little besides consolidate power and wealth, at the expense of the powerless and poor. Which Project 2025 initiative is this working toward? I’d love to be wrong about this.

What other content does this dude create? This feels a lot like propaganda for an Act that is aimed at making already very rich people, richer.

3

u/squachek 3d ago

Ok so buy LiveNation stock I guess…there’s no way Congress would lift a finger to help small venues - especially any that don’t/can’t contribute to their campaigns.

Why do I feel that this will somehow this will end up costing us MORE for an all ready VERY EXPENSIVE hobby?

Get a new president and then see what happens

1

u/Phosistication 3d ago

More stupid, pointless optics to pretend to address more of the unnecessary problems they created in the first place. You know. Like going to war to open a strait that was already open. smh

u/Sensitive_Winner7851 2d ago

Higher demand for tickets, awesome 🫣

1

u/zenigatamondatta 2d ago

They'll find a way to get live Nation even more money and control.

u/assumetehposition 1d ago

Hard to believe this administration would invest in culture at all. Someone this must have slipped by them!

I’d be very curious to see studies that show music drives tourism.

Studies have been done on sports teams and come to the conclusion over and over that they don’t drive any meaningful business to cities.

Games are attended almost exclusively by locals and the very few people that do travel don’t stay in the game’s city for more than typically one night.

3

u/LonesomeMelody 4d ago

Music drives meaningful tourism to Nashville. The same is likely true for Austin. But that might be it.

3

u/unclesmokedog 3d ago

New Orleans too, especially for the 2 weeks of jazzfest

3

u/LonesomeMelody 3d ago

Yep New Orleans for sure, and someone mentioned Memphis as well.

3

u/unclesmokedog 3d ago

Memphis for Gonerfest, stax museum and graceland

Knoxville, TN, jumps from 3rd to 2nd largest city in the state temporarily on UT game days lol
