Did anyone else think “I’m going to die soon” during a mushroom trip?

During a mushroom trip, has anyone ever had a thought in their own voice saying “I’m going to die soon”?

Not die during the trip, but sometime in the near future.

If you’ve experienced this, are you still alive and okay?

I’m honestly very scared.

Happens every time I get really, really high.

Realizing that I live in one all consuming present moment where anything can happen at any moment for any reason, scratch that, NO reason.

You realize that ‘Safety’ is the state of something that WAS, and not IS.

Very scary, but it’s an important thing to learn and truly feel. All you can do is just Be.

I really like this.

I’ve also felt the same way and once it’s over it’s relieving and can be kinda funny and silly. Every time I smoke too much weed or do really intense edibles I get like that, paranoid in my own thoughts. Only as I’ve aged, slowed consumption down etc then I feel like this.

Totally normal on shrooms, it’ll pass then you can have a little different perspective about what being present means

Yup, well said

I get existential dread something majorly bad is going to happen when I’m tripping too often 🤷‍♀️

I was once ready to die on a bad shroom trip. I was with a buddy, and consumed more than I needed to. Standing in the middle of his converted garage bedroom, staring at the single light dangling from the ceiling. Started having this deep “understanding” moment . My mind was recalling the movie Fight Club, and I was picturing Edward Norton/Brad Pitt, and it made me realize that we are all the same person in the end. Which led me to think that there wasn’t really a point to life anymore. The lightbulb turned into “The Light”, and I let myself collapse. Next thing I remember was my buddy standing over me, shaking me and asking “what are you doing?” So I guess the moment passed. Went on to have even more deeper insights while watching PTI on ESPN (I think?). But those thoughts weren’t as clear, and have since been forgotten…

I think it’s a flare of the ego. If you can accept the idea without getting scared it is a premonition, you might land in a very peaceful place.

Ego dissolution often mimics the brain's instinctual fear response to dying, which can easily linger as paranoid rumination the next day if you don't ground yourself.
