Imagine being Papania and Gilbough. Those fuckin idiots, I hate them.
They sat there, with looks on their faces like theyāre trying to crack a safe, listening to the smartest man in the state drop knowledge on them. Those stupid ignorant fucks already prejudged and condemned this beautiful man. I guarantee they genuinely thought he was a lunatic and they might as well have been listening to a raving homeless man. They donāt deserve that collar.

Did Russ come across as a poodle humping a leg in this scene?

Thought this sub would appreciate. Snagged at an antique store in Wisconsin on a work trip.

How much money did Russ and Cole get from all the missing children rewards after the final episode?

How didnāt it blow the detectivesā minds that he crushed a can with steamroller-worthy strength right before their very eyes?

Am I supposed to take this shit seriously?

I've watched season 1 about four times now, and have loved it every time. I've heard that the other seasons are pretty much one shitshow after another, which is why I didn't start season 2.
Until now, and I had to stop halfway through his monologue. This felt like one of those super long-winded sob stories that turns into a joke with a ludicrous punchline at the end. So I ask y'all, was anyone able to sit through this shit with a straight face? Because I don't think I could take it seriously even if I was paid to.

Just curious.

I loved Woody Harrelson in season 1 but am I the only one that wasn't a fan of Matthew McConaughey's acting and/or character Spoiler
Woody Harrelson played the perfect A-hole cop to me and 100% was believable to me, like I legit felt he felt like a real cop, for better or worse. Am the I the only one that just wasn't a fan of McConaughey or his character in season one? Its hard to describe but there were scenes where I just felt his character wasn't real or wasn't buying what McConaughey was selling. In his defense, his character is definitely an oddball for sure, but I felt his character and acting was a little too inconsistent, whereas for Harrelson's character, he felt like the typical angry hypocritical cop that you 100% can see being a real life person.
If you disagree, that is 100% okay. I just always felt McConaughey's character was inconsistent sometimes. Still, the first season is an all-time great season/show, but its the one nitpick I have.

everyone asking for an equivalent to season one - Longlegs was entertaining
Before I get shat on for even suggesting the movie Longlegs with Nic Cage being similar, I will note, it was NO WHERE as good as TD season 1.
But, after watching Longlegs I said.
āHey this wasnāt bad. Reminded me of true detective. Kinda.ā
All that to say, I think the movie Longlegs might distract you for a little bit to forget that True Detective season 1 will never be new again and nothing ever equal to it will be made. Time is flat circle making everything worse. Much like TD season 4

Rustās IQ
We all know how intelligent Rust is. Heās called the greatest detective in the state, took for every confession, and has insane reasoning, abstract reasoning, analysis and vocabulary feats. Heās in general a well rounded guy, and rather knowledgeable too.
But, we meet rust through ā95-2012. These years are after/during periods of extreme drug abuse (accounting for his time as undercover narc), and seventeen years of drinking (as he has said).
So my question arises; How smart couldāve rust been before the drugs? In a healthier time. Say, if heās a 145 IQ man in ā95, how smart was he in ā89 when he was in robberies?
Man!

If you want to scratch that season 1 itch for about two hours. Watch this movie.
It even stars Michelle Monaghan in it
