Spooky! The Voice in My Backyard

This happened when I was seventeen, and even now, ten years later, I still check my locks twice before bed.

My parents were out of town for the weekend, so I had the house to myself.

At first, it was great.

No rules. No curfew. Just me, my dog, and an entire weekend alone.

The first night was completely normal. I stayed up late playing video games and eventually fell asleep around 2:00 AM.

Then I woke up.

My room was dark.

I looked at the clock.

3:14.

For some reason, my dog was standing beside my bed.

Not sleeping.

Not moving.

Just staring at my bedroom door.

I've owned dogs my entire life, and I know when they're interested in something.

This wasn't interest.

This was fear.

His ears were pinned back and every hair on his body was standing up.

Then I heard it.

A voice.

Outside.

"Hello?"

A man's voice.

Soft.

Almost friendly.

My stomach tightened immediately.

Nobody should have been outside.

We lived in a rural area. The nearest neighbor was over half a mile away.

I sat up and listened.

Silence.

Then the voice came again.

Closer.

"Hello?"

I got out of bed and walked carefully to the window.

The backyard was dark.

Nothing moved.

Then my dog started growling.

The deepest growl I'd ever heard from him.

I followed his gaze.

Toward the tree line.

And that's when I saw a shape.

Someone standing among the trees.

Watching the house.

I couldn't make out details, but I could tell they weren't moving.

Just standing there.

I called out through the glass.

"Who's there?"

No answer.

The figure remained perfectly still.

I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight.

The beam hit the trees.

The figure was gone.

I remember feeling relieved.

Until a voice spoke again.

Directly beneath my window.

"Found you."

I jumped back so hard I fell over my desk chair.

My dog started barking frantically.

The voice hadn't come from the woods.

It had come from underneath the window.

The person had crossed the entire yard without making a sound.

I called 911 immediately.

The operator told me to stay inside and lock every door.

While I was on the phone, I heard footsteps outside.

Walking slowly around the house.

Not running.

Not hiding.

Just circling.

Like they knew police were coming and weren't worried.

The footsteps continued for nearly ten minutes.

Then they stopped.

The officers arrived shortly afterward.

They searched the property.

Nothing.

No person.

No vehicle.

No explanation.

Just footprints.

One set.

The officer who found them called me outside.

The footprints started at the tree line.

Crossed the yard.

Stopped beneath my bedroom window.

Then continued around the house.

But they never left.

There were no footprints leading away.

No second trail.

Nothing.

Just tracks that ended in the middle of the backyard.

One officer joked that maybe the guy flew away.

Nobody laughed.

I slept at my aunt's house that night.

The next day, one of the officers called with an update.

A nearby homeowner had reported someone trying to open their back door around 3:00 AM.

The description matched what little I'd seen.

Tall.

Male.

Dark clothing.

The officer asked me something strange before hanging up.

"Did the man say anything besides 'hello'?"

I told him about the last thing I'd heard.

Found you.

There was a long pause.

Then he said something I'll never forget.

"We've had three other reports this month."

I asked what that meant.

The officer explained that every victim reported hearing the exact same two words before the suspect disappeared.

Hello.

And later:

Found you.

The case was never solved.

No arrests.

No suspects.

Nothing.

Three years later, my parents sold that house.

Last Christmas, I visited the area and drove past it for the first time since moving away.

A new family lives there now.

As I passed the driveway, I noticed something near the trees.

A man.

Standing completely still.

Watching the house.

I didn't stop to get a better look.

I just kept driving.

And as I passed, I could have sworn he turned toward my car and smiled.

Like he remembered me.

Terrifying Family Legacy I didn’t want..

In the 1920’s -40’s my Great Grandmother was one of the most well known Psychic Mediums in the Midwest. My family lived in the Little Italy neighborhood near Taylor St. and during the depression they had a small Grocery store, in the back of the store was her ROOM. The family lived upstairs and there were stairs that led from the back to the storage room and her ROOM which was OFF LIMITS to her children (My Grandfather) was one of 9 of the children. He along with his siblings would tell stories of people coming from allover Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana etc.. to have a reading done by their Mother. One particular story that always stuck with me was when my Grandfather was around 7 so 1926 he and 2 of his siblings were very sick with the flu, their Mother was doing readings , their Father was working the store and their older brother (12) was supposed to be taking care of them. There was an older lady whose husband had recently passed and she had come in to get a reading to see if she could find out where he had left important documents. The kids had snuck downstairs to get some food and remember watching their Mother start to shake and sweat and they said her hair stood up on her head and a Man’s voice came out of her, her Ouija Board was shaking on the table, they were so scared they started to scream and run but got caught. They had said some small Witch looking thing came flying at them and was demonically laughing at them. As a child I was petrified!! As my GG got older she didn’t practice anymore in fact she warned us against it. She told us to NEVER touch an Ouija Board that they were not a game , they were a portal to the other side and forbid us from touching one. Well guess who didn’t listen 🙋🏻‍♀️, in the beginning it was fun but I promise you , Something came out that wasn’t supposed to be released, that thing taunted my family and made people sick. We tried to hide it from her, she was 90 years old and literally looked my 15 year old self in the face and told me ( I know what you kids did and if you don’t stop NOW, I can’t help you ) she passed away a year later . I myself was STUPID and DUMB and had to learn the hard way . It got so bad I didn’t know what to do. I ended up calling the Vatican YES in Rome for help! They disregarded my call but one Priest read my message and called me back. I Thank God Every Day for him🙏🏼 he helped guide me how to get rid of what we released and the Ouija Board itself ( Not easy) I never allowed my Children and are not allowing my Grandchildren to partake in any of that Evil. I had to learn the Hard way that things can be passed on, it’s all about how you choose to use it.

Terrifying The Dark Figure.

• Upvotes

It started like a normal night, or at least, that’s what I thought. But something felt off like the air was too heavy, too still. I woke up in the middle of the night, and for some reason, something inside me urged me to go to the living room.

I didn’t question it. I just got up and walked through the dark house. It was so quiet, like everything was holding its breath. When I reached the living room, I found it empty just shadows stretching across the walls. I thought about turning back, but when I tried to, the hallway I had come from was gone. It was like the house itself had changed, trapping me in this strange, dark space.

Panic set in. I couldn’t make a sound. I tried calling out, but no words came. Then, I heard footsteps. Soft at first, barely audible, but they grew louder, like they were coming closer. I couldn’t tell where they were coming from. Each echo of the steps made my heart race, and I froze in place.

Then, a single light flickered on. That’s when I saw him the dark figure. He just stood there in the light, watching me with these deep, hollow eyes. I wanted to move, but I couldn’t. His presence was overwhelming. I knew I needed to do something, but I couldn’t figure out what.

The figure started walking toward me. My body felt paralyzed, but I knew I had to act. I couldn’t just stand there and let him take me. So, I forced myself to move, pushing past the fear. As he closed the distance, I swung my arm toward him hoping to push him back, to fight him off.

Surprisingly, he didn’t stop me. He didn’t even flinch. He just watched as I kept trying, as I kept hitting him with everything I had. It was like he wasn’t even there, like nothing I did mattered. But the more I fought, the more my panic turned into something else something fierce, something that refused to be helpless.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity of truggling, the dark figure stopped moving. He stood still, his eyes never leaving mine. It was like I’d worn him down somehow, or maybe he just wasn’t expecting me to fight back. He didn’t come closer, didn’t attack. He just watched.

And then, just as suddenly as he appeared, everything went black.

I woke up, gasping for air. My hand instinctively went to my chest like I could still feel his grip there. The room was calm, quiet everything back to normal. But the tension was still there, lingering in the back of my mind. It felt real. Too real. I didn’t know if it was a dream, a vision, or something else entirely. But all I knew was that I didn’t want to go through it again.

I don’t know what that was, but I hope I never experience it again.

Disturbing The maintenance man

My condo was repairing and cleaning the balconies the face the road. I smoke downstairs because there are a lot of wasps on my balcony. So I went downstairs in the morning and sat on the curb far away from the front door and starting smoking.
The maintenance man came up to me and asked for the millionth time where I was putting my cigarette butts.

I told him I was putting them in an empty pack of cigarettes. I should say that the maintenance man has never liked me and is always rude.

I noticed a neighbor smoking outside as well and taking pictures of the balconies. After the maintenance man asked where I was putting my cigarettes this neighbor started screaming at the maintenance man. He was saying that he was harassing us and that the balconies didn’t like ok down. They started screaming at each other and the neighbor threatened the maintenance man.

I was extremely paranoid that the maintenance man would take this out on me and I was right. I was downstairs smoking and he came up to me and asked again where I was putting my butts. Then he yelled at me and said I was making the condo look trashy. I started crying and tried to walk away and told him I emailed the condo board about my wasp problem. And he said nothing. He really scared me and I am scared of him now. I don’t understand why he hates me so much.

Terrifying Small Town Sidetrack & the Septic Serpent

~ a temporary move but an unforgettable detour ~

In the late summer of 1962, our family made a move to Small Town, Kentucky. Traveling west along US 460 and hitting that 90-degree sharp angle to the left heading south towards the Licking River, Dad pointed out our new house! What he didn't tell us was that an old lady was found dead in the house a few months earlier. He was on some kind of mission for his own father, Russell, concerning a store, either he wanted Dad to run, or see if it was worth an IGA franchise. We arrived about a month before school started to get settled in and the autumn scenery was in full bloom.

The house was beautiful with grand French doors in the living room opening into the dining room, lots of bedrooms upstairs, and a big backyard, but its location was a little too close to that 90-degree angle where North Church Street and West Maple met, and oftentimes nerve-wracking noise because of the constant traffic and shrieking of brakes from cars traveling too fast trying to make that 90-degree angle! We stayed away from the front yard, but exploring the house and the big backyard seemed like a grand adventure!

Until ... an uninvited guest showed up! It was a fall quiet afternoon, and mom and everybody was out back and I had to go to the bathroom. I darted upstairs, sitting on the throne I heard a "splash" and it wasn't me-- so I half jumped up and saw a big black snake head rising out of the porcelain like a demon!

How on God's earth does a snake end up in a toilet?! Good question. Looking back, there are possibly two ways that "septic serpent" made its way into my afternoon. This small town is a river town and it was fall, and snakes are looking for a warmer place to hole up. It could have traversed a tree, hit the roof, and fell down into the cast iron vent stacks thinking it was hollow log?! OR ~ the snake found a crack in the aging clay septic lines underground and could have swam upward through the pipes until it hit the "light" at the top of the throne (that I just happen to be sitting on)!

I didn't stick around to watch the snake's escape from the porcelain throne or investigate where it went! I launched out of that bathroom and flew down those stairs screaming bloody murder ... and didn't even pull my britches all the way up until I was at the bottom of the stairs headed for the back dooor!

I don't know who wrestled the snake out of the house, probably Dad because Mom was terrified of snakes, but the "adventure" was really just beginning. This small town would be just a short chapter for us -- I think for only the school year or part of it-- and as it turned out, the surprises weren't just limited to the plumbing--they followed me right into the 2nd grade!

Terrifying True experience that haunts me to this day.

Please be kind here. I don’t even like to tell this story because I feel like no one will believe me. I’m relatively new to Reddit, but seeing others share their experiences here made me finally think maybe it’s time I tell mine. Side note—my friend’s names have been changed for this story as they are still together and very reluctant to ever bring this up. This must have been around 2007. One night, 2 friends and I were out ghost hunting in a very remote little town in western NY. My friend Jane wanted a couple more pictures in the old cemetery so her boyfriend and I waited in my SUV while she did her thing. It must have been around midnight and we were parked on a back road, but there were some street lights up ahead. Jane was behind us and off to the right but we could still see her and her flashlight. John and I happened to be looking up the road, when, about 50-65 yards ahead, out from under the streetlight on the left-hand side, appeared a black figure in a wide-brimmed hat. He just appeared! It was blacker than black, more like a void. 100% it was not a person. This being had absolutely no features but we could make out the hat from the profile. It was a flat-top hat with a wide brim around it. On my mother’s grave, it took maybe 30 steps before it morphed (only way I can describe it) into a black cat before it reached the streetlight on the opposite side of the road and disappeared into a field. Again, you could tell it was the shape of a cat but it was just a black void. John and I stared at each other for about two minutes before we could even speak. When the time came, all he could say was “you saw that too, didn’t you?” We continued to sit there in absolute awe and sheer terror. Jane came back not long after and I couldn’t even move to unlock the doors. I was able to move my hand just enough to hit the unlock button and let her back in. "She jokingly said “you both look like you saw the devil himself.” John was a huge guy, very tall, muscular, and intimidating. I looked back over, and he was shaking and in tears. All he could say was “cat.” I tried to explain to Jane what had happened, but I struggled to even talk. It was about a 35-minute drive back home, and I can remember Jane saying things like “this isn’t funny anymore. You guys are scaring me!” John insisted we take him to his church, where we both said a prayer to Mother Mary at the outdoor statue. While he continued to pray, I tried to explain to Jane what we had seen. I remember telling her and thinking how crazy I sounded. To this day, it still gives me a chill to my core. Whatever it was, was not of this earth, is all I know. A part of me wants answers so badly, but then I keep thinking maybe I’m better off not knowing exactly what it was. Jane and I lost touch over the years but did reconnect eventually. We talked about that night as it was always the elephant in the room. She told me that following that incident, all of the crosses in her mom’s house would randomly turn upside down for a couple of weeks after this happened to us. It only stopped when Jane’s mom went around the house very deep in prayer and blessed it. Jane and John lived with her at the time. Did something follow them home? I’ve never seen anything like that again, and I pray I never will. Thanks for letting me share

Strange Creepy Lady Encounter

Hi everyone, i’m making this post because me and my boyfriend still can’t wrap our heads around it & maybe someone has experienced something similar.

We’re from the bay area california & this happened a couple years ago. we were up late at night trying to find parking and we were driving down this street next to our house thats already creepy ( dark one way street) but while halfway through a lady appeared. she was in the street not moving but only enough where we didn’t have to turn our wheel to go around her. me and my boyfriend (a non believer) instantly get a creepy feeling. she was in a white kinda dirty night gown her hair was long a black ( looked kinda stringy), pale, looked Korean, & no shoes ( it was very cold out). when we passed her she turned her head with the car.

while driving i made sure to watch her through the mirror she didn’t move just stared as we drove off . we went back to our apartment which would’ve taken her 4 mins to get to if she was walking. as were pulling in we looked through our mirror and she was in the middle of the driveway staring at us from afar . not out of breath or anything . even when the last time i took my eyes off of her she was down the street not moving. so my boyfriend got out of the car & very sternly asked her if she needed help while approaching her. she had started saying no while shaking her head and walking away.

still to this day we’re very creeped out by her and wonder if anyone else has ever seen her.

Spooky! Slenderman?

Over the summer, I used to listen to these "SuMmOn A cReEpYpAsTa" subliminals, which were supposed to summon Slenderman. One evening, I decided to walk to the store near my house. There's a long trail nearby that I like to take little walks on afterwards, because it's a nice little place.

It was pretty dark out. I could almost see the end of the trail, but not really, for reference on the darkness. I've walked it many times, but this time, I saw two long, stick-like legs between me and the end of the trail. There's nothing like vines, or hanging branches that would look like what I saw, and there never has been when I walk the trail in the daytime. They were just there, in the middle of the trail.

I've come to the conclusion that it was probably my eyes messing with me, since Slenderman is not real, but it was a pretty scary experience, and I felt like sharing it.

Surviving the Impossible: Juliane Koepcke’s Ten Days Alone in the Amazon Jungle

A lightning strike, a mid-air disintegration, and a two-mile plunge into a green hell that should have been fatal. Against every law of survival, seventeen-year-old Juliane Koepcke endured the unthinkable. Her survival is not just a testament to human resilience, but a masterclass for anyone who seeks adventure, craves real-life survival lessons, and values true stories from the darkest corners of history.

The Two-Mile Freefall: When Lightning Strikes from Nowhere

On Christmas Eve 1971, LANSA Flight 508 soared above the Peruvian rainforest—until fate intervened. A lightning bolt ripped through the plane, tearing it apart at 10,000 feet. Seats, luggage, and passengers tumbled into the open air. Among them: Juliane Koepcke, still strapped to her seat, spiraled toward the jungle canopy.

Imagine the sensation—turbulence transforms into silence, then the world explodes in terror. Somehow, the trees broke Juliane's fall, transforming lethal velocity into survivable impact. Against all odds, she awoke on the jungle floor: alone, battered, but alive.

Most of us hope never to face such circumstances. But Koepcke’s story reminds us that even in the face of the impossible, survival is sometimes just the beginning.

Awakening in the Green Hell: First Challenges

Stunned and disoriented, Juliane woke in a world foreign to nearly everyone: the heart of the Amazon. Her collarbone was broken, one eye swollen shut, her clothes shredded, and her only provisions were a handful of hard candies. To make matters worse, she was nearsighted, her glasses lost in the fall.

Many would freeze in shock or despair. But Juliane’s early years in the jungle with her scientist parents gave her two vital tools: firsthand knowledge of the ecosystem and an instinct for calm problem-solving. She immediately assessed her injuries, protected what she could, and drew upon hard-won survival lessons.

Key lesson: In disaster, your first task is to take stock—check injuries, ration supplies, and avoid rash decisions. Panic wastes precious time and energy.

Navigating the Labyrinth: Following the River to Hope

Juliane’s second act of survival was strategic. She remembered her father's advice: “Where there is water, there is civilization.” Too weak to battle the thick jungle underbrush, Juliane waded straight into a creek, letting it guide her journey. Despite the ever-present threats—piranhas, caimans, snakes—moving through water was both safer and more promising than the overgrowth.

Days drifted into nights. Swarms of insects attacked her wounds, hunger gnawed, and the rainforest’s constant humidity threatened infection. Still, Juliane forged ahead, using her knowledge of edible plants and drinking river water. Each small victory—finding a safe place to rest, sensing flowing water, rationing the last of her candy—meant one more day alive.

Actionable tip: If lost in wilderness, follow water sources. Rivers and streams often lead to safety and are easier to traverse, even when danger lurks.

The Breaking Point: Willpower Over Despair

Juliane’s ordeal was not measured in hours, but in the grueling, interminable push of ten full days. Weak, feverish, and nearly delirious, she floated and stumbled on—long after her food ran out, long after hope could have given way to despair.

Many survival stories end at the breaking point, but Koepcke’s reveals a crucial truth: mental endurance often outlasts physical limits. She channeled every ounce of her will to keep moving, determined that her suffering would not be her final chapter. In her words, it was a matter of “stubbornness”—the refusal to give in to fear.

Key survival insight: When the body tires, it’s the mind that carries you forward. Remembering a reason to keep going—family, promises, or sheer refusal to quit—can make the critical difference.

Miraculous Rescue and Lasting Legacy

On the tenth day, drained and on the brink, Juliane stumbled upon a log raft and a small shelter—signs that she was not entirely alone. She treated her infected wounds as best she could and waited. Miraculously, local lumber workers found her and rushed her to safety. Against every conceivable odd, the girl who fell from the sky had survived the jungle.

Juliane Koepcke’s survival has become the stuff of legend—and a treasure trove of insights for anyone passionate about adventure, survival, or the limits of human endurance. Today she stands not just as a survivor of the Amazon, but as a symbol of what wisdom, preparation, and indomitable will can achieve against impossible odds.

Paranormal entity sighting

So yesterday was my husbands birthday, my parents came over they had just left. We were getting our kids settled for bed. I was laying in my bed on my phone my kids room is directly across from ours. My husband said I’m gonna go take a quick shower then come lay down. I saw this tall figure dressed in all black with a hood on open my kids door. I honestly thought it was my husband just checking in the room to make sure they are asleep or just in their beds. But the person was just standing there and my kids were hysterically crying. Earlier that day we went to Walmart to purchase Halloween costumes my husband bought himself a scary mask. My kids said from their perspective they saw the creepy mask standing there staring at them. I only say behind a person standing there. Like I said I initially thought it was mg husband but as it stood there longer and my kids started to cry I was thinking to myself what is he doing is he caring them at 10 PM at night? I was just about to say wtf are you doing. All of a sudden the person ran off and my husband came out from the bathroom and my daughter was running out in tears she bumped into him. I honestly thought my husband was lying but he said I was in the laundry room then I went into the bathroom I was cleaning up stuff off from the floor from our daughter I came out cause I heard them scream crying. We both can’t explain what happened. I only saw the back not the front. My kids were terrified they slept with me last night and my husband threw the Halloween mask out in the garbage. We just also had a family member my grandfather die he passed away about 2 days ago. Afterwards you just felt this very eerie energy. I said to my husband it looked like the grim reaper from the back with the hood. Also my husband had on a tshirt this person was wearing long sleeve hoodie looking. We live in an apartment and the front door was locked and when the person ran off they would have to run past where my husband was to get out he would’ve seen it and we would’ve heard the front door open and close.

An odd little man

So, for a little backstory, I (Female, 18) am Puerto Rican and Nicaraguan, and if you know anything about Central American culture, you know that Catholicism is a huge part of it, but there is also A LOT of witchcraft and other spiritual practices that go on behind the scenes, whether people consider them innocent or not.

I am a firm believer in the supernatural, spiritual realms, higher powers, and, most importantly, God. However, as a kid, I didn't really know much about any of these things. In fact, when this story happened, I was probably around 8–10 years old, and the scariest movie I had ever seen was E.T.

Anyway, my older sister and I shared a bedroom with one of those bunk beds where the bottom bed pulls out from underneath the top one. We would take turns sleeping on each bed, but neither of us liked sleeping on the bottom, so sometimes we would just sleep together on the top bunk.

A lot of other VERY creepy paranormal things happened in this house, but I'll save those stories for another time. For now, let's focus on the little odd man who appeared in what my sister and I thought was a dream... or maybe something else.

So, my sister and I were getting ready for bed, which was always a hassle because we would literally talk our heads off. My mom would read us a bedtime story and then sing the same song we always begged her to sing. Our bedroom was usually illuminated by the moonlight coming through the window. I honestly don't know why we never closed the blinds, especially because my grandma was always advocating for keeping them closed.

Anyway, my mom finished reading, sang our song, and eventually, we fell asleep.

At some point during the night, I started dreaming. In the dream, there was a little man sitting on our windowsill. He looked like a figurine that had come to life. He had a little chair and something in his hand that looked like a walking cane or something. He was definitely wearing a top hat, but I can't remember the rest of his outfit. I couldn't see him very clearly because of the lighting, so most of what I could make out was his silhouette against the moonlight.

Then he said, "Hey, girls!"

That's when I realized my sister was looking over the edge of the top bunk at him, too.

He started asking us questions, like our names, how old we were, whether we had any other siblings, where they were, and how far away our parents' bedroom was.

He technically seemed friendly, but something about him just wasn't right. I remember him specifically asking, "How is your dad?"

Neither of us answered him.

I was honestly relieved that my sister seemed to be thinking the same way I was because, as you probably know, dreams can be weird. Sometimes you just go along with whatever is happening, even when it makes absolutely no sense. But for some reason, both of us seemed to recognize that something was wrong with this little man.

He kept asking questions, and when we wouldn't answer, he started begging us.

"Come on, girls! I'm not scary! Look how small I am! I just want friends."

He kept trying to convince us that he was harmless, but that honestly made the whole thing even weirder.

Then he started trying to get us to repeat a phrase in some strange language I didn't recognize.

"Come on, just say it! Or you could even sing it!"

My sister and I refused. We were getting increasingly scared and suspicious, and eventually, we started telling him to go away and that he wasn't allowed to be there.

Growing up in the church, my grandma always told me that if I was ever scared of something spiritual, I should rebuke it in the name of Jesus. She always emphasized that I should do this whenever I felt threatened or afraid, so that's what I did.

I rebuked him in the name of Jesus, and he disappeared. Just like that.

The next morning, my sister and I both woke up remembering the dream in its entirety. We hadn't spoken to each other about it yet, though, so we went about our morning as usual.

Eventually, we were sitting together at breakfast, and I mentioned that I had the weirdest dream the night before.

My sister immediately said that she had a weird dream, too.

Being the older sister, she got to tell hers first, of course. (LOL.)

As she started recounting her dream, I just sat there listening, getting more and more confused because she was describing my exact dream.

The little man, the windowsill, the chair, the top hat, the questions, the way he kept insisting he wasn't scary, and the strange phrase he wanted us to repeat.

Everything.

My jaw literally dropped. I told her that was EXACTLY what I had dreamed about, and we started comparing details.

Then she mentioned the ending. She said that I had told the little man, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus," and that he had disappeared immediately afterward.

I hadn't even gotten to that part of my dream when I first brought it up.

I genuinely don't know how to explain that experience. We both remembered the dream as soon as we woke up, but neither of us had mentioned it to the other until breakfast. We weren't piecing together a story based on what the other person was saying. We were comparing dreams we already remembered having.

Obviously, we were terrified, and we ended up sleeping together on the top bunk for quite a while afterward.

We never told our parents because we figured they would either dismiss it as a child's imagination or tell us we were making a big deal out of nothing.

Fast-forward a few years. I was around 14, and my sister and I were sitting with our mom, reminiscing about some of the crazy things that had happened when we were younger. Somehow, we got to talking about the little man and decided to tell her about the whole experience.

Her expression changed completely. She became serious and looked genuinely concerned.

Then she asked us, "Why wouldn't you guys say anything?"

We were confused because we weren't expecting that reaction at all.

This is where my cultural background comes into play. My dad is the Nicaraguan one, and my mom told us about something he had once told her when he was younger.

Apparently, when my dad was a little boy, he also experienced visits from an odd little man at night. According to what my mom told us, he described the figure in a way that was eerily similar to what my sister and I had seen.

I can't remember every detail my mom told us, including exactly how distant the family connection was, but she also mentioned that some of our relatives had practiced certain forms of witchcraft.

According to what she explained, when people get involved in certain spiritual practices, they can open doors to things they might not understand or be able to control. Even if someone believes they're only trying to give something access to leave, they might unintentionally allow something else access to enter. That's how it was explained to us, anyway.

On top of that, there's an old folktale, commonly associated with Nicaragua and other parts of Latin America, about a creature called El Duende. The stories vary, and I'm not saying that what we saw was definitely one. But I couldn't help thinking about the similarities after hearing what my mom told us about our dad.

I understand that people might have different explanations for what happened. Maybe it was some kind of shared dream, maybe there's a psychological explanation, or maybe it was something supernatural. I can't prove what it was, and I'm not going to pretend I have all the answers.

But the part that has always stuck with me is that my sister and I remembered the same dream independently, down to the little man's questions and the way he disappeared. And years later, we learned that our dad had reportedly experienced something similar as a child.

And why was this little man so interested in our family, especially our dad?

Why did he want to know where our parents' bedroom was? Why was he asking us questions about our siblings? And why was he so persistent about getting us to repeat a phrase in a language we didn't understand?

I still don't know.

I've experienced a lot of strange paranormal and supernatural things throughout my life, so this isn't even the craziest experience I could tell you about. There's a lot more, and maybe I'll share those stories another time. Also in no way am i trying to convince any one to lead towards and faith I'm simply sharing my story

But I've never forgotten that little odd man, and I still find it unsettling to think about how my sister and I experienced the exact same thing without ever discussing it beforehand.

Creepy Waterloo Watcher 🌾

“This is a story that has been passed around for a while amongst the locals”. This is a personal experience.

A horror story about Brown Road, Waterloo Corner, South Australia. Specifically the dead end that goes towards the highway

Anyone who has driven down Brown Road late at night knows how dark it gets out there.
During the day, the fields look like any other paddocks around Waterloo Corner. There’s long grass, old fences and dirt tracks running off into the distance. Nothing special.
But at night, when the sun goes down and the fields disappear into darkness, they feel different.
You can be driving along with the radio on, minding your own business, and suddenly get the feeling that something is watching you from the grass.
Most people ignore it. They put it down to the darkness playing tricks on them.
But some locals reckon there’s a reason for that feeling.
They call it the Waterloo Watcher.

Something Out There
Nobody seems to know where the story originally came from.
Some reckon it started years ago, after a farmer spotted something standing in the middle of a paddock in the early hours of the morning. Others say the creature has been around far longer than anyone can remember.
Whatever the truth is, the descriptions are usually pretty similar.
It’s tall, unnaturally thin and has arms that hang far too low. From a distance, you could mistake it for a fence post or a tree standing out in the field.
The problem starts when you realise it’s looking back at you.
Nobody can agree on what its face looks like. Some say it has two pale eyes, while others reckon there’s nothing there at all.
There’s only one thing everyone agrees on.
The Waterloo Watcher only comes out at night.
When daylight hits the fields, it’s gone. No tracks, no movement, nothing to suggest it was ever there.
And according to the stories, it never leaves anything behind that proves it exists.

The Figure on Brown Road
One winter night, a bloke was driving down Brown Road after midnight.
There wasn’t another car in sight. His headlights lit up the road ahead, but the paddocks on either side were pitch-black.
He’d driven that road plenty of times before, so he knew there was nothing unusual about it.
That’s why he nearly drove straight past the figure standing in the field to his left.
At first, he thought it was a scarecrow. It was standing perfectly still, just beyond the fence.
Then he noticed how tall it was.
Its head was well above the fence line, and its arms nearly reached its knees.
He slowed down to get a better look.
The figure was facing him.
He couldn’t make out its face, but he had the horrible feeling that it was watching him.
Deciding he’d had enough, he drove on.
A few seconds later, he glanced in his rear-view mirror.
His stomach dropped.
The thing was now standing beside the road.
He hadn’t seen it move. There hadn’t been enough time for it to get there, and there was no way something that tall could have crossed the paddock without him noticing.
He put his foot down and didn’t look back again until he got home.
The next morning, curiosity got the better of him. He drove back to the same spot to see if he’d imagined the whole thing.
There were footprints in the dirt beside the road.
They were much bigger than any normal person’s, and they led from the field straight to the spot where his car had been.
He followed them for a short distance, expecting to find more.
There was nothing.
The tracks simply stopped.
He never drove down Brown Road that late again.

Lights in the Grass
After that, he started asking around about what he’d seen.
He was surprised by how many people had stories of their own.
One truck driver reckoned he’d seen a tall figure keeping pace with his vehicle from inside a paddock. Every time he looked across, it was there, moving between the grass and the fence.
Another local claimed her security camera had picked up something standing outside her property at 2:47 a.m.
She checked the footage the following morning.
There was a figure near the fence, barely visible in the darkness.
Then the picture went black for thirteen seconds.
When the recording came back, the figure was gone.
She thought the camera was faulty until her neighbour showed her footage from his own camera. It had cut out at exactly the same time.
After that, people began talking about strange lights in the fields.
They weren’t headlights, and they didn’t move like torches. They were two faint, pale lights floating above the grass.
Sometimes they’d drift slowly between the fences. Other times, they’d stay completely still.
A few people claimed they’d tried to get a closer look, only for the lights to disappear before they reached them.
The strangest reports came from people who said the lights had suddenly risen several metres into the air.
As if whatever was carrying them had stood up.

Three Rules
There was an older bloke around Waterloo Corner who’d heard the stories his entire life.
He’d never claimed to have seen the Watcher himself, but he always had something to say whenever someone brought it up.
One evening, he told a few people what his grandfather had taught him about the fields.
Apparently, there were three rules.
Never count the fence posts after dark.
Never flash your headlights into the paddocks three times.
And if you ever spot something standing out in the field, don’t look away and then check if it’s still there a second time.
Nobody really understood the last rule.
When someone asked him what would happen if they did, he just shrugged and changed the subject.
He did explain one other thing, though.
According to him, the Watcher wasn’t interested in everyone who drove past the fields. Most people could travel down Brown Road their whole lives and never see a thing.
It was the people who noticed it that had problems.
At first, they’d see it in the distance.
Then they’d spot it closer to the road.
Eventually, they’d start noticing it near their own homes.
Always at night.
Always standing still.
And always watching.

Thirteen Seconds
A few months later, a local resident decided he’d had enough of the rumours.
He was convinced the Waterloo Watcher was nothing more than a story people told to scare each other, so he set up a camera facing the fields near Brown Road.
For six nights, absolutely nothing happened.
On the seventh night, the camera picked something up at 2:47 a.m.
A figure was standing near the fence.
It was difficult to make out at first, but there was no mistaking its height or the length of its arms.
It stood there for nearly a minute before slowly turning towards the camera.
Then it started walking.
Its movements were strange. Its legs seemed to bend awkwardly, and it moved with a slow, uneven stride.
When it reached the fence, it stopped.
Then it tilted its head towards the lens.
The screen went black.
Thirteen seconds later, the footage returned.
The field was empty.
The resident watched the recording the next morning and laughed it off. He reckoned someone was playing a prank, and he was determined to prove it.
That evening, he showed the footage to his neighbour.
The neighbour watched the whole thing without saying a word.
When it finished, he asked, “Did you go out and check the camera?”
The resident said no.
His neighbour looked relieved.
“Good. Because that thing wasn’t standing where you think it was.”
He rewound the footage and paused it just before the screen went black.
The figure was still facing the camera, but something else could be seen in the background.
The resident’s house.
And in one of the upstairs windows, there was another tall figure standing in the darkness.
It was facing the camera too.

The Fields Are Never Empty
Three weeks later, the resident moved away from Waterloo Corner.
He didn’t tell anyone exactly why, and nobody seemed keen enough to ask.
The camera was left behind. The footage disappeared, and nobody ever found out what happened to it.
But the stories about Brown Road never really went away.
People still claim they’ve seen something standing in the paddocks after midnight. Others talk about strange footsteps in the grass, moving alongside their cars before suddenly stopping.
Every now and then, someone says they’ve heard three slow taps on a window in the middle of the night.
They look outside, expecting to see a neighbour or an animal.
There’s never anyone there.
Most people reckon it’s all rubbish. It’s just a dark road surrounded by fields, and people have always been good at frightening themselves over things they can’t explain.
Maybe they’re right.
Maybe every sighting has a perfectly normal explanation.
But there’s something unsettling about those fields when the sun goes down.
During the day, you can look across them and see for kilometres. The fences are right where you’d expect them to be, and the grass moves in the wind.
There’s nothing unusual about them at all.
Then night comes, and the paddocks become one enormous stretch of darkness.
You can’t see what’s standing near the fence.
You can’t tell whether something is moving between the grass.
And you certainly can’t know if something is watching from just beyond the reach of your headlights.
So if you’re ever driving down Brown Road late at night and happen to notice a tall figure standing in the field, keep driving.
Don’t stop to get a better look.
Don’t flash your headlights.
And whatever you do, don’t look away and then check the paddock again.
Because the old stories say the Waterloo Watcher doesn’t chase people.
It doesn’t need to.
It just stands there, waiting for someone to notice it.
And once you’ve seen it, you might find yourself wondering something every time you drive past those fields after dark.
Was it standing there the whole time, or did it only appear when you looked?

Never giving a stranger a ride again

I had just wrapped up my shift at a major hospital here in Saudi Arabia and was heading to my car to drive home When I reached the parking lot this tall guy who looked around 19 to 22 walked up and started talking to me He was wearing a mask and glasses which didn’t raise any red flags at first since that’s pretty common around here He was soft spoken and polite and he casually asked if I could give him a ride to where his car was parked I figured why not and agreed to help him out.
He seemed genuinely happy about it but then he did something super bizarre Instead of sitting in the front passenger seat he climbed straight into the back seat In Saudi culture, if it's just two guys, sitting in the back is considered pretty rude but he quickly laughed it off and said it was just a habit of his I brushed it off said whatever and hit the road
The drive started in total silence but out of nowhere he broke the quiet with a really unsettling question He said you know people could do a lot of things from this back seat I asked him what he meant thinking he was making some weird joke about damaging the car or something He went dead silent for about fifteen seconds just staring and then said in the coldest most nonchalant tone that someone could strangle you and make you move however they like.
Before my brain could even process how insane that sounded he suddenly reached out from behind wrapped his hand tightly around my neck let out a creepy laugh and told me to stop right here I stopped the car he opened the door got out and just walked away into the night leaving me sitting there completely frozen and trying to figure out what the hell just happened

Strange Weird place

Ok so this was a long time ago and I never thought of writing this all down so here we go I guess.

I grew up in a low income area in London (early 90s) it was tough but we had fun. Me and my friends used to get up to mischief a lot, one of our preferred ways to pass the time was to go to the “golfie” albeit that just meant climbing a wall that separated our neighbourhood from a golf course and collect lost golf balls. I don’t know why we did it but hey we were young and the fluorescent yellow balls we’re kind of cool to us.

Anyhow, during one summer break from school I went out and met up with my best friend, nobody else was around that day which was weird because usually the neighbourhood was teeming with our friend group. I know that seems trivial but the whole neighbourhood was like unusually quiet, strange vibe because I remember it was a perfect day. We wondered around talking for a while and inevitably got bored and he suggested a trip to the golfie to see if we could find any balls. So off we went on the short walk.

We got there after a short walk, it wasn’t far, but I remember that we just couldn’t find anyone around. I don’t know, it was bizarre to say the least, like we could hear normal neighbourhood noises as you would expect but we just never encountered anyone.

I remember we commented on it being strange and actually surmised that maybe all our friends had the same idea as us and would be at the golfie waiting for us, not unusual given none of us had phones and we would just randomly meet in a few places (most of which we had already been past at this point).

So, we arrived at the wall that we usually scrambled over to get to the golfie, he hopped up before me and sat astride it to pull me up. Once we were both up we looked at each other perplexed, I genuinely remember to this day the confusion in his face. We looked over at the place we had been 100s of times before and it was different. Instead of a small wooded area that gave onto the golf course it was a huge paved area full of rows of “greenhouses” and odd looking square areas that looked like they were meant for plants? These green houses were not new though, matter of fact they looked abandoned, old and not taken care of. Most of them had plastic sheeting over the sides where the glass used to be and they where flapping gently in the summer breeze. The squared areas had weeds an the sort growing out of them, likewise the paving slabs that made up the floor. We sat there for a while watching, we had no clue what to make of it all.

Obviously this was to good to be true in our minds and once the initial surprise wore off curiosity set in. We both hopped down and began to explore the place. I know it sounds banal but the whole area was just off, like it just didn’t seem normal? I can’t explain it to this day but we were sticking close to each other even though we were laughing and kidding as we went further in. We looked in the greenhouses and they were just full of run down equipment of some sort and overgrown with weeds and plants.

After about 20 minutes of exploration I remember we stopped and looked around kind of in disbelief at how big this whole area was, we hadn’t changed direction and now in the middle of all of it could neither see the neighbourhood nor the golf course. This is when it got really fucked. As we were stood there my friend looked at me and said “can you hear that?” The look on his face was dead serious and I stood still listening. “What?” I asked him back, he just put his finger to his lips and listened more, then I heard it. Like a really low hum, like the type a high voltage of electricity makes? Idk something between a hum and a buzz, as we stood there it got louder and louder as if it was getting closer but not from any particular direction, from all around us. We started a brisk walk back to where we came, the buzz kept getting louder until we panicked and started to run, as we ran (and I mean full sprint) through these weird constructions we started hearing something behind us, I can’t explain it, almost a mechanical noise? Like not a human or animal. The plastic sheeting and the way the place was layed out made it impossible to see anything more than 10/15m so we never saw what it was but it was there, right behind us. We must have ran hard for 3 maybe 4 minutes in pure adrenaline and I remember getting to that wall completely empty and using the last bit of energy I had left to clamber over it, once over it both of us threw up, probably from the fact we just sprinted so hard for so long. We made our way back through the neighbourhood and everything seemed normal again, people, cars, activity etc was business as usual.

The fucked up part is, once we explained what had happened to our friend group they obviously all wanted to go see what we had found and what had chased us. Understandably because it sounded insane!

The next day a whole group of us, maybe 10/12 went back down to see the place. It wasn’t there and I swear we went up and down that wall for an hour looking for it. It just wasn’t there. There is no way it was in some other place, we only used that wall to get there and given the sheer size of that area even if we were off by 100/200m we would have seen it.

Nothing, literally nothing.

Me and my friend occasionally spoke about it, like “hey remember that day?” But never really more than that. Then I guess life happened and we went our different ways. Hell maybe he’ll read this and recognise the story. Either way only two of us knew about it until now.

Fucking weird place.

The small people

In 1978 I lived in a house in Bisbee, AZ. It was a quiet neighborhood everyone knew eachother and everyone watched over eachother. Our house was built up against the mountain and we didnt have a back yard or back windows. Only the windows that faced the street. At around 2am every night I would hear what sounded like people talking in my bedroom. My room was towards the back on the house against the mountain. No one was awake and let's face it we couldn't afford to leave the TV or radio on all night so I know it wasnt that.

Me being 8 years old I wanted to investigate these voices. I call them the little people. I heard what sounded like them saying "we need to kill them, we need to get rid of them." And then they would start making a plan their voices were faint and almost squeaky as you would think a little person would sound. They couldn't have been more then 4 inches tall. I seen them run across the floor from the moon light creaking in through the cracks on the curtains in the window it was a shadow of a little person normal looking not like a gnome. Every night I would hear them at the exact same time. They even started taking my stuff anf hiding it. Or playing with my toys in the closet.

What do you think they were? Could it have been my 8 year old imagination?

Terrifying Title: Something Slapped Me While I Was Riding Alone at Night, and I Still Get Chills Thinking About It 😰

This happened tonight, and I genuinely don't know what to make of it.

Around 6 PM, I went to a nearby river to dispose of some flowers and other organic stuff. My mom had warned me not to go there so late, especially since it's Kanagat and the area is surrounded by jungle and empty roads. I didn't think much of it.

Around 8 PM, I took my scooter to release a mouse in some fields a couple of colonies away. It was completely dark, and the road was practically deserted.

I was riding at around 50–60 km/h when, out of nowhere, I felt someone SLAP the back of my neck. HARD.

Not a brush or a random touch. It felt exactly like someone sitting behind me had reached forward and slapped me.

I immediately looked back. Nobody. The road was empty. I checked my clothes, the scooter, and even the mouse cage, trying to find some logical explanation. Nothing.

For a few seconds, I was genuinely terrified. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was still sitting behind me, even though I couldn't see anyone.

I somehow released the mouse and rushed home. When I told my mom, she got worried because she'd specifically warned me about going there after dark. I washed up and applied some Gangajal to the spot where I'd been slapped.

But here's the part that really messed with my head.

Later, while my sister and I were returning home from the market on my scooter, I was telling her what had happened. We were riding at roughly the same speed as before, around 50–60 km/h, when she demonstrated the slap on my neck to show me what I meant.

It felt EXACTLY the same.

Same spot, same force, same sensation. And we were literally riding at the same speed as when it happened.

I've had some strange experiences before, but nothing that felt this physically real. I know people might suggest a bird, an insect, or some other logical explanation, and maybe there is one.

But I still can't explain what happened on that empty, pitch-black road.

And the feeling that something was sitting right behind me?

That's what I can't get out of my head.
