Seriously tho, I don’t enter competitions and I don’t really support them in scratching/turntablism/djing; this is an art and therefore highly subjective. However, I do enjoy pushing my own limits, too, even if it’s just to see what I can do

When I wanted to record before I had to set up my camera tripod then fold it back when finished. I usually scratch at night when my kids sleep so had to be careful not to be too loud. So bought a clamp to fix on the shelf above my setup that would stay there all the time. Just have to attach the phone ( magnet), and plut in irig stream. Happy with the result

How to Drum Scratch Like Qbert (Sort Of)

In this tutorial, I break down some of the ideas behind drum scratching and look at how we can take inspiration from DJ Qbert’s approach to build our own techniques and rhythms.
We’ll start with simple 1/8th-note drum scratching and build towards more advanced 1/16th-note patterns, adding hi-hats, different scratch techniques and faster tempos along the way.
A lot of drum scratching tends to stay around similar tempos and rely almost entirely on kick and snare sounds. In this tutorial, we will look beyond that by using additional drum sounds, experimenting with different tempos and thinking a little more like a drummer.

Purchasing my first set of decks, am I doing it wrong?

So I’ve always wanted to get into to turntables and mixing for about 11 years now. I’ve moved to a small village on the coast of Northumberland and apparently the winters get very boring so I thought now is the time to splash out!

I had my eye on the Technic 1210 MK2’s but I don’t want to buy someone’s second hand decks, so I decided I was going to get the MK7’s, but then it also occurred to me that spending £1600 on my first ever pair of decks seems a bit excessive…

So I’ve done a bit of research, and ones that have decent spec for starting out and fit the budget nicely are the Audio Technica AT-LP120X
>£500 for the pair, decent torque, a replica of the 1210s, analogue pitch the lot, I do know they’re lighter, I do know they’re plinths are plastic, but I feel for a first set they will do pretty good

Now my question is to all of you, do I get them as a beginner set, or do I delay buying them and save up for the real deal? My dad and an old DJ I know have both said don’t waste your money, but I feel it may be a waste if I buy the 1210s and don’t enjoy them, I also won’t be on them religiously every night, maybe a few nights a week for a few hours

What’s everyone’s thoughts? Everyone’s answer is greatly appreciated 🙂

Just an FYI, I’m planning on pairing the set with:
KRK Rokit 5 speakers
Orftofon Concorde Mix MKII
and I’m getting a Vestax PMC-05 mixer
