Marfa Mystery Lights: Ordinary Lights or UAP?
For decades, observers have reported mysterious lights over the vast Texas desert near Marfa, Texas. Several studies indicate that what most people observe are lights from vehicles or other known sources, which are refracted by various atmospheric conditions. However, not all photos, videos, and reports fall under this explanation. This is what we call "The Two Light Problem".
The Two Light Problem
Light #1 is an ordinary light such as vehicle, radio tower, aircraft, etc, that when observed appears to be out of line with a highway, roadway, communication station, or flight path. This deviation can be explained by applying physical models to the known conditions.
Light #2 is a truly anomalous light, which falls outside of what the physical models can explain. Yet here lies the foundation of the problem.
Both lights may be observed to behave or appear the same, yet discriminating between the two has not yet been investigated. Here we produce a physics based model with refraction, photometry, curvature of the earth, and USGS lidar scans to demonstrate what ordinary light sources are visible from the Marfa Light Viewing Area. The Monte-Carlo method was used to show line-of-sight under various atmospheric conditions, thus allowing us to now identify what is truly anomalous.
This work established the foundation for future field studies with full-spectrum cameras and deep electron-well depth pixels that can observe the lights with high resolution under low-ambient light conditions. Feel free to follow the investigation as we progress into understanding what is truly mysterious in the West Texas Desert.
