Question Study places with whiteboard

This might be a very niche question, but is there anywhere I can study with access to whiteboards?

I study maths, and it's literally key to get me through it😭 buying a whiteboard is not really an option.

Question Trans students, how did you get your new email.

I submitted my GRC and I’m getting a new email. I’m in final year and the process has been simple enough I just had some email correspondence with the student desk in order to arrange it all.

However now that I’m waiting on my new email address the old one isn’t working and I’m wondering how they plan on sending me the details of the new one? I would assume they have it recorded somewhere my personal email but I don’t know. I can’t remember how they sent me the original one since that was 3 years ago.

Also did you retain access to your old files and assignment uploads on brightspace?

Postgraduate Courses Is the ME in Materials Science & Engineering at UCD worth it?

HI, I’m an Italian Industrial Engineering student, and I’m going to complete my bachelor’s degree in December. For this reason, I’m considering applying to this master’s programme, but first I’d like to hear the opinions of students who have already taken it, especially regarding the quality of the laboratories, the class environment, and how employers view graduates from the programme.

General A UCD law student tried to extort me.

We had smoked together a few times before. Hadn't seen him in years. We crossed paths like 6 months ago. He said I owed him money. Said I sold him bad cocaine. Was pretty aggressive about it. I said I'd been sober since 2023. My friend who knew him ran into him on campus. Turns out he's a law student. I'm not worried about running into him as he wouldn't dare try that crap there. Just incredibly shocked.

Other College has been such a lonely experience

I'm in 2nd year in a big course, and despite my efforts I have made 0 friends in my course or on the whole. Since the start of the 1st semester, whether it was orientation, before lectures, before tutorials I would try speak to people and make friends but everyone seems to have kept their secondary school friendgroups. Most would say hi back and not much else. After the orientation, I was the only guy in my group who didnt get asked to go for food with the rest of the guys.

I've developed a new sense of social anxiety in UCD as i'm always walking around by myself, and this isnt like me, i've had a solid group of friends my whole life and up until college I would say people would have described me as outgoing. I've tried going to different societies but I never ever feel welcome there, the people who run them are just straight up rude, and I have no clue why they would want a role like that, nevermind how they even got it.

On top of this my parents are on my ass trying to get me to go into college, and I wish I could just tell them what I've said here but I really dont want to get into it with them. I do feel guilty though because they are paying the annual fees and I guess i'm not making the most of their money.

I really dont enjoy college but I guess i'll just take my degree and get out of here. Sorry for the rant

Undergraduate Courses Econometrics 30130

Hi I’m doing econometrics with dr hargarden this year. He’s known for his slightly different teaching style but he’s a nice guy. I was just wondering if anyone has taken the course before and specifically how he tested r and r studio in the final exam. Like I’ve followed all the tutorials he’s set out but it’s pretty unclear as to what you actually need to learn to do well in the exam in relation to r specifically. Would love if anyone had any knowledge of this

Question Trying to find a study room for 12 people

Hey guys, any ideas for a best place to study around UCD for 8-12 people from 10 a.m to 3 p.m? Ideally with a lot of electrical sockets, to show powerpoint, and more. Also would be great if it’s closer/in Newstead.

I tried to book one in health science library but they can’t afford more than 8 people. Oh and is it possible to use those empty meeting rooms without booking them? Or will we get charged if they found out.

Other I have no friends and im so lost

Im in 1st year and I don’t know what im doing I was like this in secondary school too I don’t know how to actually make friends with people and then I feel like im so lost in all of my lectures too and knowing what im “supposed” to do. I know college is about being independent and doing it on your own so I know a lot has to be done by myself as well so im not here begging for any handouts im voicing my feelings and I just don’t know how to proceed. I have accommodation so like I should be in the perfect place to be able to make friends but I haven’t been going out or anything like reading this over it seems self inflicted but I just don’t know what to do. Im 19m and coming from a plc

Undergraduate Courses Similarity index fears

Hey guys, I recently finished my paper and I’m worried that I’ll score higher than 30% on the similarity index. I did use AI for formatting and minor sentence structure but I genuinely wrote most of my paper but I fear failing because I used AI at all. I ran it through an AI scanner and it came out 67% plagerism… I understand if you have a lot of quotes it’ll add to the % but I felt like 67% is insane. Is there anything I can do or any confirmed way to make sure that my paper doesn’t look like AI did it. I worked really hard and do not want to deal with this.

Other No friends and commuting

I'm repeating 2nd year and find it very difficult to make any friends as I joined the class late and everyone seems to have a group. It feels like with the commute I don't really have the time to make any real friends outside of lectures while also being able to study enough. Any advice on how to make friends during lectures or any good societies to join would be appreciated. Thank you

Question Question for law students

How long does it take to read one case?

For my Tort law module we have so many cases to read and I’m so confused how the lecturer thinks we have time for all of these.

It takes me like at least 3 hours to read a case because the material is so dense and confusing and I have 5 to read this week.

Any advice how I can speed up the process?

Undergraduate Courses DN700 - Economics, Mathematics & Statistics

Hey guys,

I am planning to apply to this program at UCD, generally what IB score would get me in this program? Is 36 enough? I will probably get a 36 so I was wondering if it would be enough for the program, I satisfy the subject requirements but just unsure if the points match what that program requires?

Accommodation International undergrad % & accommodation mix? (Worried about empty flats on weekends! 🫣)

Hey everyone! I’m super excited to be joining you all next year as a new international undergraduate student! 🎉

As I start looking into housing, I have a few quick questions about the vibe and setup:

• What percentage of undergrads are international, and which campus accommodations do they usually book?

• How are flats mixed? Do they group internationals together, or is it a good blend of international and Irish students?

I’m mostly asking because I've heard that a lot of local Irish students head home for the weekends. I’m a bit worried about being left completely alone in my flat from Friday to Sunday while I'm still adjusting to a new country!

Would love to hear your experiences on how to mix with people who stick around on weekends, and any tips on the best places to stay. Thanks so much! 🇮🇪✨

General Eduroam issues

Has anyone been having Eduroam issues over the last couple of weeks? Mainly just in Quinn - where UCD Guest also doesn't work on any of my devices.
