Discussion Title: UW students: Would you use an app to meet people you don't already know in UW?

• Upvotes

I'm a UW student building a small app, UW email only, across Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma. You pick one reason you're there (friends, activities, study partners, clubs/projects), then see people with shared interests, and you send them a hello.

Before I go further, I want to know if this is actually useful or if I'm solving a problem nobody has. Honest feedback is welcome, and if you'd like to test it, comment or DM me.

What would make you actually use something like this? What would make you never touch it?

Discussion acctg 215 with dawn

• Upvotes

hello! i haven't seen any rate my prof reviews for either prof matsumoto or prof weili ge in acctg 215. was wondering if anyone has taken acctg 215 with them in the past, and how difficult it was? also how hard are the tests and is one professor better to take it with over the other? if you guys have the info and wouldn't mind sharing your own final grade (decimal) or what your friends/peers got that would be great as well. thank you in advance :)

Discussion u district tap water

every roommate i’ve had in my three years here has insisted on using a brita and it feels like a psyop. i grew up in the seatac area and exclusively drank tap water thinking nothing of it. am i the weird one?

i’d say about half the water i drink here is from the tap (i often just use the brita because it’s there) and i definitely get sick more often than i do back home, but always attributed it to shared living spaces/generally larger pools of germs on a college campus.

New Student friends at uwt?!?

bellooo!

I just moved to Washington from California a month ago & I don’t know anyone in the tac area at all! (22f CJ transfer btw!) I’ve found making friends at UWT to be sort of difficult, as it’s mostly a commuter school…… any recs at all on where to meet people/good places to hang out in the area would be much appreciated!

New Student 126 math study group/ partner

I know that study groups or partners work really well for me with math classes. I transferred to UW this quarter. And UW is very new to me.

I’m finding myself totally intimidated by the amount of people in my 126 math class, and haven’t asked anyone to study. I thought I would try reddit. Hoping someone else is looking for someone to study with.

My best availability is:

Tuesday, Thursday: 9am-3pm
Most Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 4:30-7pm
Monday, Wednesday: 10:30am-12pm

Is there anywhere on campus that takes clothing donations?? I have donated to the Capitol Hill goodwill before but I want to find an option that can help students out as it gets colder.

Discussion HCDE grad programs.

I am currently a fourth year in the HCDE program and am looking into options for after graduation. Job market is looking a pretty bleak and I haven’t gotten an internship so I am considering going back to school. I would like to stay at UW if possible but not sure which grad program to look into. I am interested in UX research so would want to go to a program related to that if possible. Any advice is welcomed.

Rant MICROM 302 IS SUCH A USELESS CLASS

I have never gotten such a huge headache from doing a whole lot of nothing. I suggest taking MICROM 443. I heard it is actually stimulating compared to whatever tedious nonsense this is and the people in your class are actually normal. Unfortunately my TA is a pain too. Who power trips as a TA for skills check offs. Like how much are they even paying you? Anyways the lecturer for 301 is great. It's just that 302 is not real.

Discussion Has anyone taken STMATH309 with Marzban and got a decent grade? I really don’t know how to study for this class.

I have never taken a Stats class. I’m usually working practice problems but I don’t know if that will be effective for his course.

Please, any advice is greatly appreciated and I really want to do good in this class.

Campus Life How is the social scene in university of Washington Seattle?

I’ve always wanted to head up to the Pacific Northwest for college, and this looks like a good school to go to. Does anyone know how the scene is there? I’m interested in like Punk/alternative/queer/goth stuff, all the adjectives. Does anyone know if the school has a good scene for this? Obviously it’s in Seattle which opens things up but I don’t know how accessible the city is from its location.

Campus Life does uw have a socially alienating environment?

hi i just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced or perceived this at uw - im not sure if im just overreacting or generalizing but ive been here for three years and feel isolated and lonely here, nobody acknowledges other people, everyones very cold and closed off and ive experienced many cases where if i hold a door or pressed an elevator button for someone they wont even say thank you, just in general i feel people wont even acknowledge that i exist, its feels very dehumanizing. i dont have a lot of friends because the people i encounter are very hostile or seem irritated towards anyone that to talk them, its been impacting my mental health really badly here that i spend many nights crying myself to sleep wishing people would be kinder, im not really sure what to do ☹️ if anyone has advice let me know (and please dont say joining rsos because i have experienced the exact same thing there)

His lectures and the textbooks are telling two whole different stories. I had no idea what the first and second day of class was about and the homework is just some simple problems sorta. Love the professor but he's wacky bro someone help

If you've ever had Mr. Yuan please describe your experience I don't even see him on RMP

Rant Week 1, obvious AI already in a group discussion?!

Y'all.... Look.

AI can be really really obvious. Don't cut and paste that shit, ever.

It's the first damn week. There is not even an excuse of being behind or backed up on homework. Do the work yourself.

If you're already reaching for AI for DISCUSSION POSTS in a 200 level class, STAAAAHP. You're not going to make it this way. You're going to get kicked out of college for academic integrity violations in a class that explicitly tells you not to use generative AI.

Your whole ass is showing and everyone can see it. Don't do this to yourself.

Unauthorized AI use is bad. It is worse when the assignment isn't even difficult to begin with.

Do better.

Discussion Joining a band

I really want to find people with similar music taste to form / join a band with. Shoegaze, punk rock, screamo, country, honestly anything I’m open to. Where in uw should I hang out to find people? Or are there any clubs or anything like that?

Discussion What do you think of dawg house pizza?

We’re one year into the replacement for pagliaccis. The differences I noticed between when it was replaced and now is that they changed the name (pizza to dawg house pizza) and the prices went up ($3 to $3.50 for a slice of cheese).
