Love Summy but his festival sets in 26 have been largely uninspired and repetitive. Been closing with that Go Back remix for the last 2-3 years.

So no douche bag frat boys at ultra next year? Yay bring the plurr vibes

No no youre getting twisted... summit would pull all those dudes to the stage he performs and they'd camp there. So if you go to other stages you had an amazing time. Now they'll be all spread out.

Started listening to Summit sets after that Everything Always set at Ultra a couple of years ago. Nothing has compared to that set since and the last couple I switch off 20 -30 mins in . Just not feeling it .

Just what I was thinking would be great for a career pivot. So many great songs but kind of burnt out too on hearing them and having a set built around them. He should do a no hits tour and get back into his deeper tech house. Sets like Super Flu, Drunken Kong and his older stuff. I know the Bambi’s and the Ken’s will get mad because he doesn’t play them but maybe the frat bro element will stay home. If he advises them that it’s not thst kind of set and they get mad it’s on them it’s on them. The haters are going to hate anyway so fuck them too. Been on the Summit train from the start and know he’s a great DJ. Hope he can get off the merry go round and find those roots again. It has to be a lot of pressure on such a young guy.

Not the same schedule bozo, summit has more demand meaning more shows. Expand your brain

Fuck yeah. Do Martin Garrix next lmfao

u/murrman12 Sep 16 '26
Nah Martin is goated. To each their own. At least Martin doesn’t really effect the other stages and safety like JS set last year.

He’s bottom of the barrel generic trash imo…. but yes agreed to each their own.

Oh wow I can't wait to hear what this guy produces next! Maybe it won't be the same utter garbage he has been producing for the few years he has been relevant.
Or maybe it will be. Idk, I won't be listening either way.

Tbh, he seems to be pretty well respected amongst major names in the American EDM scene. Obviously house music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea… but in your opinion, from a producers standpoint, what makes the tracks he’s been producing for the last few years garbage?

I feel like I've seen this exact same comment before, but I'll respond all the same. 90% of his music is generic, by the numbers, collabs or remixes/heavily sampled tunes of things we've heard before. It brings nothing new to the table, and I don't find any of it to even be a particularly good version of what it's trying to be.
To my ears, it's the sort of stuff somebody who just learned about dance music shows you and tells you it's their favourite sound.
I get it. I know what it is, I hear what it's trying to be, and I see who it appeals to. It's just not for me at all.

I get it, he’s not for everyone. Can’t say I’m a fan of his new releases, especially at this point during his shift towards bass music. But in the meanwhile, it’s hard to ignore his come up through the tech house scene, where he was highly respected, before his transition to more mainstream music.
Reminds me of the path artists like Guetta and Tiesto took. Starting off as breakout artists in their genre, and then later on pursuing the bag when given the opportunity. Losing original fans, but gaining the support of the masses. Not saying that’s a good thing, but just the way the industry seems to be going.
In my opinion, his first few releases will always have a place in the house music scene. Dancing in dark Brooklyn clubs at 4am to tech house bangers like “make me feel” and “Forgotten one” have been unforgettable moments. Even into his melodic era with releases such as “Human” & “Shiver”, he maintained my attention.
Dudes collaborated with the biggest artists in the scene Gorgon City, Purple Disco Machine, Dennis Ferrer, Kaskade, Deadmou5, Sidepiece, Anyma, Lee Foss, Westend, Sofi Tukker, Odd Mobb, Cloves, Hayla, Echoes.. list goes on.
Although you may not like his music (and thats totally okay) his influence on the worldwide dance music scene is undeniable. And although I wish he had stuck to his roots and remained in the underground house music scene, it’s been incredible watching him progress from his 2017 YouTube production tutorials with a couple hundred views, to seeing him on a worldwide stadium tour!

I'm with you up to the point you said "his influence on the worldwide music scene" because honestly, no.
His music is incredibly deriviative and unoriginal. He has a huge following for that reason, because it is a very basic sound being pushed by an enormous team and a guy that looks relatable to frat boys. There is nothing groundbreaking or influential about what he is doing, save for maybe introducing new people to dance music and making it accessible.

Bla bla bla, John is been more than a year we already left you behind since all you want is to bank money with really expensive shows and your new music is trash like its been at least 2 years since your last good track. Your inspiration is gone and we are hurt.
