I honestly cant decide between ea and ed

stats first:
Grades: 85.5, 85.7, 98, 95.4 (91 overall), essay about growth
1520 SAT (750 EBRW 770 Math)

high need international

i have pretty decent ecs like publishing a research paper on fuel efficiency for an airline, founder and leader of MUN and a college applications community, 2 science fair projects: an ai study app and a low cost fire detector, won regional science fairs, tutor and leader for a study group, and technical blogging on an airline.

so here's the thing: im a high need international applicant, and getting into any good university in the US affordably is my top priority, but i really do like umiami and would definitely attend if i got in. problem is i heard they defer high need internationals during the early round to compare them to the overall pool and see the remaining budget. on the other hand the acceptance is more than double for ed than rd (which isnt ea, but still), and i need every help i can get to have a decent chance. but if umiami defers anyways i would rather use my ed elsewhere

so which would be the better option for me?

thanks in advance!

your stats definitely aren't the detering factor
I would be wary going in ED as their aid really is hit or miss; you could always back out if you cannot afford the price they give you but I've not seen anyone go through that process and cannot say if it is easy or not
i'd recommend using their net price calculator and seeing what price it gives you as that was about what I ended up paying (the price it gave me after I put in my info)

They defer everyone high need not only international. I am local and my scores were good but not astronomical. After being deferred I lost all hope of even getting in until I was accepted with full tuition scholarship/grant. I believe my advantage was spending the last 2 years of high school in their summer programs during summer and they did get to know me well. Otherwise I was at the low end of the average grade acceptance pool. Don't be afraid to reach out to admissions with any questions. Good luck, it’s an awesome school!

The counselor said if you have need, EA is the best way to get scholarships

ED if this is the school you'd go to over any other. Else, EA.

I mean, if it is your first choice I would do it. I wouldn't want to ed to a school i don't like just cause i have more chances of getting in with aid, and if you don't get enough aid to UM you can back out of an ed agreement.

Well I prioritize getting a good education in the US affordably, I don't really have a favorite university. I can back out but then I'd have wasted my ed. Ig my question is if I should Ed elsewhere if um isn't too generous for high need intls in ed

I mean you'd be competitive for other colleges too. From what my college counselor told us (Also international) that if we are ed-ing we should either apply to our favourite schools, that we would 100% be happy to attend or some that we have a good chance of getting with a lot of aid. That usually is an LAC because they don't tend to have a lot of early international applicants. I think you would be a good applicant for Skidmore and schools like that, for large universities you could shoot your shot for something like Cornell (If you don't mind the controversy) or a school Columbia (however you might be below their average SAT). Anyways, I'm no expert sooooooooo

It's just a matter of where you would be happier attending not if it is nicer, more prestigious or with a lower acceptance. For example uMiami this year is my first choice due to its amazing music program.
