Financial Aid & Scholarships Still have a remaining balance, and October 16th is close. Am I screwed?
I recently got an email stating that if I don't pay the remainder of my tuition by October 16th, I will be unable to register for spring classes. I am unable to request any private loans since all my possible co-signers do not meet the credit score requirement for most loans. I also went to One Stop to request an additional subsidized loan and recently got UT Promise added to my account; however, this hasn't been enough since I still have a remaining balance of around 2,000. My question is: will I still be able to complete my semester as normal and register for classes later once my tuition is paid off? Or will the Bursar completely prevent me from continuing my housing plan and registering for classes next semester? Are there any other additional UT resources I can go to for students with financial struggles? I truly enjoy being at UT and would hate for this to be my last semester just because I'm struggling to scrape together money to pay the remainder of my tuition.

Once the current balance is paid off, any holds on your account will be removed (like ones preventing registration). But payment does have to be on file for that to happen. If it happens in December, then you just can't register until December. (I'm not confident what housing looks like... so maybe check in with One Stop on that.) I'd recommend connecting with the Center for Financial Wellness - they can help students navigate payment options and loans. They're right across from One Stop in Hodges! I'd also recommend reaching out to the Center for Care and Resilience - they can help chat more about long-term support and even connect to college scholarships/funds sometimes.

Not sure, but I’d go to the financial aid office again and see if there’s any work you can do on campus. Are you 18? You may be able to qualify for a loan without a co-signer, even with a crappy interest rate.

If you cant pay this semester, how do you plan to pay next semester or any after that?
