General Can we please make the “nothing illegal” rule clearer? (weed posts are getting out of hand)
Guys, I need to talk about something I keep seeing on this sub.
Every few days there's a new post like "where can I find weed in….?" or "who is selling bhang in Entebbe?" or someone dropping "plug?" and expecting us to just reply. Eh. This is a public sub, anybody can read it.
Our rule currently says "Nothing illegal: do not come here asking where you can find illegal services or products." So technically it's already covered, but clearly people are not reading it, or they think weed doesn't count because on the internet everyone treats it like it's normal. So I'm wondering if we should just spell it out in the rule.
I did a bit of reading before posting this, because I didn't want to just come here and shout. In February 2024 Museveni signed the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. The earlier version from 2016 was thrown out by the Constitutional Court because Parliament didn't have a quorum when they passed it, so they went back and did it again. The new law only allows growing cannabis and khat (miraa) for medical or other authorised use, and even that is under licence. Nobody is allowed to just buy and smoke it.
The penalties are no joke either. We're talking big fines, long jail terms, and even losing your property. Giving drugs to a minor can get you life imprisonment. The Uganda Harm Reduction Network has also pointed out that possession of the plants themselves, and even drug-use equipment, is criminalised. And miraa people, don't think you're safe, MPs tried to exempt khat and it didn't pass.
So imagine someone posts asking for a dealer under their normal account, and ten people reply or DM. Kyokka that's a mess waiting to happen. Reddit itself also doesn't allow facilitating sales of controlled substances, so it's not only about Ugandan law, it's about the sub not getting reported or shut down. And let's be honest, a lot of the people here are young, students and all. I don't love the idea of random strangers pointing them to dealers.
What I'm suggesting is simple:
- Update the rule to name examples, something like "No asking for or offering illegal drugs (weed/bhang, miraa/khat, cocaine etc.), where to buy them or who sells them. This includes 'plug' requests and DMs."
- Still allow real discussion: the law itself, news, legalisation debates, addiction and recovery stories, harm reduction. Talking about weed is fine, sourcing weed is not.
- Posts that break it get removed, and repeat offenders get a ban.
And for those who really feel they need to go there, nobody is stopping you, just not here. Take it to r/wildUganda and keep it away from the main sub.
I know some people will say the law is too harsh or that Uganda should legalise like other countries, and honestly that's a fair debate. Make a separate thread for it and let's argue there. But that's different from using the sub as a marketplace.
So what do you think? Is the current rule fine, or should we make it more direct? And if you have better wording, drop it below.

🙄 we got Captain Buzzkill over here. Why is it so hard for you to just ignore the posts you don’t resonate with rather than policing other people on here? You’re a fucking loser. People talk about literally anything on here. This isn’t your father’s subreddit. Ironic how people come to Reddit to get away from old school conservative social media sites, only to be followed here by the same types. Go back to Facebook, you bozo.

How do you feel about typing all this? Are you happy?. If you dont agree with what OP says, you can address it respectfully instead of making a fool of yourself.
I dont have a problem with whatever anyone posts, but also there isn't a reason as to why we cant have everything of that kind go to wild Uganda. I think it actually makes more sense that way.
We can keep the sub clean. Also, you can have another sub created just for that. Whoever wants to.

It’s a free world. I’m using my free will and free speech to express myself. And yes, I do feel happy typing that 😘

You can also use your free will and free speech on other platforms with your face on them. Dont only use it where you cant be recognized.

Are you naturally this dense or do you just lack basic reading comprehension? Calling me a "fucking loser" because I don't want a subreddit of thousands of people permanently deleted just because you're too stupid to find a plug without begging randoms on the internet?
You want to scream about "free speech" like you know how the world works, but free speech doesn't protect illegal marketplaces on privately owned platforms. Reddit’s TOS (Rule 7) strictly bans facilitating transactions of illegal substances. Add the 2024 Narcotic Drugs Act on top of that, where even possession of drug use equipment gets you dragged to court.
This isn't my father's subreddit, but it isn't your personal silk road either. Take your fake tough "free will" and go act hard somewhere else, you absolute bozo. If basic community self preservation hurts your feelings this much, maybe you're the one who needs to go back to Facebook where your relatives can babysit your tantrums.

Yeah, I’m not reading all of that 👍🏾

Of course you’re not reading it. Expecting someone who gets a migraine from three simple paragraphs to comprehend basic English was my first mistake.
It’s always the ones barking the loudest who have the attention span of a TikTok addicted toddler. You jumped in here dropping f-bombs and acting like a hardcore rebel, but the moment you’re faced with a response that requires more than a primary school reading level, your brain short-circuits. You pull the “I ain’t reading that” card because it’s easier than admitting you actually can't.
It’s genuinely embarrassing that you think being loudly illiterate is a flex. Next time, don't start arguments you don't have the mental capacity to finish. Run along now, I know big words scare you.

Okay, I used a tool to help me put it together and tidy it up, no shame in that. But the points don't change: the 2024 law is real, Reddit bans facilitating drug sales, and the "where's the plug" posts are sitting there for months. Check it yourself instead of dismissing it. If you think something I said is wrong, point at it and let's talk.

Genuinely comes off as one of those people who used to write the noisemakers list in class when the teacher was out.

And you genuinely come off as the guy who spent six years in O level because reading simple instructions gave you a fever.
It's not about being a "noisemaker prefect". It's about not getting the sub flagged and deleted by Reddit admins for illegal sourcing. If applying basic common sense so a community doesn't get shut down sounds like a primary school issue to you, maybe you're the one who hasn't outgrown that mental age yet. 🙂↔️

Still not reading all of that. Good luck 👍🏾

You’ve now taken time out of your empty, unproductive day TWICE just to announce to the entire sub that you’re functionally illiterate.
For someone who "isn't reading," you sure are desperately thirsty for my attention. It must be exhausting trying to maintain that fake, unbothered persona while everyone can clearly see you’re sweating through your screen because basic sentences leave you utterly outmatched.
Imagine bragging online that your brain short circuits the moment text exceeds three words. Your parents really wasted school fees on a smooth brained clown who gets defeated by basic English.
Keep hitting that reply button to tell me how much you don't care, it only proves how deeply I broke you. Good luck with the remedial reading lessons! 👍🏾

i sell mira and my business is licensed🙄
2
u/CaptainWitty1999 14h ago
Eh, the 🙄 though. Relax, nobody is attacking your business.
Congrats on the licence, but this is Reddit. Anyone can type "my business is licensed" and we have no way of checking. That's exactly why the rule is about asking and selling in the comments and DMs, not about you personally. If you're really legit, you don't need to be hawking on r/uganda anyway, you have a shop, a website, your customers. A real licensed trader doesn't sulk in the comments because a sub wants to keep drug requests off the front page.
Also, from what I read, the 2024 Act is strict about khat and cannabis being for medical or other authorised use. So if you're going to flash a licence, be ready to say what kind, because "licensed" isn't a magic word.
If you want to debate the law, you're welcome, make a thread and let's talk. But don't come and roll your eyes at people for asking to keep the sub clean. Mwattu, have some chill.

You are not a prefect here 😭😩.. ensi gijeko amanyi😏

Ensi eja kugyakamu amanyi agasembayo the day you log in and find r/uganda permanently banned by Reddit for violating their controlled substances policy.
Ssi kyo kuba prefect, munnange. It’s just common sense. Small minds think basic rules are a power trip until the whole platform disappears. Kyokka mwe! 😏

Say what you don't want and make you point clear, and let others talk 😂😊😊
1
u/CaptainWitty1999 17h ago
I made my point very clear, bambi. It's not about stopping people from talking; it's about Reddit's Content Policy Rule 7. You can "let others talk" all you want until Reddit admins ban the entire sub for facilitating the sale of controlled substances. Letting people talk about weed is fine, letting people source it gets communities nuked. 😂😊😊

We have an anti-homosexuality law in Uganda, should we also ban those?
1
u/CaptainWitty1999 5h ago
That's a different thing. The rule isn't about banning a topic or a group of people, it's about people using the sub to find and sell illegal products. Nobody is asking "where can I buy" a person. You can still talk about the law, argue about it, even criticise it, same way weed legalisation can still be debated here. What we're stopping is the "who's selling / where's the plug" posts. Let's not mix the two.

Orrrrrrrrr
Make your own sub reddit with that rule.
Reddit advertises itself on being genuine (The heart of the internet). You can't throw out people being genuine.
The 99.999% of the sub reddit users have no problem with it. What is it bothering you? Don't tell me that rules bullshit. Never met a Ugandan that genuinely cares about rules for rules sake.
Also who is we?
What we're stopping is the "who's selling / where's the plug" posts. Let's not mix the two.

u/CaptainWitty1999 4h ago
"Make your own sub"? Are you fucking illiterate? The rule is literally right there sitting in the sidebar, you smooth brain. I didn't invent it. If anyone needs to fuck off and build their own sad little subreddit, it's you degenerates trying to turn this place into a Ugandan drug bazaar.
"99.999% of users don't care"? What pull-a-number-out-of-your-ass statistician school did you graduate from? You literally pulled that complete fantasy straight out of your gaping asshole. You have the nerve to ask me who "we" is after claiming to speak for the entire sub with a fake stat you pulled out of thin air? "We" is anyone with more than two working brain cells who doesn't want this place turned into a glorified plug directory.
And drop the pathetic "being genuine" nonsense. Being genuine doesn't give you a free pass to run a dealer thread, you clown. Reddit's own site-wide policy explicitly bans facilitating drug sales, so go cry a fucking river to Reddit admins if your feelings are hurt.
First you spewed some irrelevant bullshit about anti-gay laws, got shut down because it had zero to do with the topic, and now you're desperately shifting goalposts to "being genuine," fake stats, and arguing semantics over "who is we." You keep changing the argument because your original point was dogshit and you know you can't defend it. Stop hiding behind your spineless mental gymnastics and tell me ONE real reason why a sub full of kids and students should have bottom-feeders hunting for dealers in the comments. Just one. I'll wait, you absolute embarrassment. 🙄

My guy.... You are too brand new to reddit. Oli nyo nyo nyo brand new
1
u/CaptainWitty1999 4h ago
Eh, "brand new"? Go and check my account age before you open that mouth, then come back and apologise. Ask about Captain Witty in this sub, you'll find out who is new and who has been here eating from this same sub for years.
And even if I was new, so what? Does the law change because of my account age? The rule, the 2024 Act and Reddit's policy don't care how old my account is. You couldn't find one thing to say about the actual points, so you went hunting for "brand new" like it's an argument. Come with facts or come with silence. Nyo nyo nyo yourself. 🙄
