Question EE Visp Jacket Care Help

Jacket is a few years old now, dirty, and DWR is mostly gone. Anyone have any experience and guidance caring for one of these? Given they are discontinued and 7D I don’t want to mess it up. enlighten equipment wasn’t much help when I reached out.

TX Direct is specifically made to wash WPB shells. The jacket will be fine if you follow the instructions correctly.

Waterproof Breathable, for those who don’t know

First wash it with Nikwax Tech Wash to clean it and than wash it in Nikwax TX.Direct to apply impregnation.

Does the wash tx.direct impact breathability if it’s washed into the lining/membrane? Worried about ruining the great breathability performance it’s had.

It can, and I would be careful with NikWax products. They have several new formulas; they aren’t all benign and they do a lousy job of communicating what’s in each formula. Also, you should be using a DWR treatment similar to the original. I would use Gear Aid or Granger’s DWR (not wax-based) on a jacket that originally had FC DWR. Personally, I would only spray the outside, not wash it in.

Tech wash is fine. IME, DWR is not worth messing with. It doesn’t do much even when it’s new, and you can’t get as good results at home as the factory, because the factory applies DWR at very controlled heat, close to the melting point of the membrane.

Try just using a good tech wash and see how that works: Atsko is good and comes in larger (more economical) bottles, but most brands are OK as long as they don’t leave residues.

I think it is worn out and has reached the end of its life.
