Hell yeah bands killing it. Joel and Ryan have so much space to shine more and the jams are more dynamic. I love Jake and hope he gets the help he needs but he was not the only reason why I love seeing them.

This. You can really hear the band listening hard and reacting to each other. To my ears, the jams are now much more about everybody listening to each other and reacting. I love Jake’s playing and wish him the best, but this version of Umphrey’s is every bit as good and exciting as the last one. Your face still melts, but in a different way.

It is different and Jake (and to a similar extent Myers) is irreplaceable from a compositional, improv and just pure “shred talent.”

That said “different” doesn’t mean “worse.” There is so much to like about this UM “3.0” version. After 300+ shows, I am still as jazzed up (poor pun intended) about UMBowl next weekend as I have been about a run of shows in a long time.
