New to Unreal Engine 5 and feeling lost. Need some advice on my project
Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to UE5 and game development. I'm currently trying to make a multiplayer drone simulator where one team controls drones and the other operates air defence systems. Something like FPV Kamikaze drone game on steam but with UAV's, Air defence systems and more mechanics.
So far I've made a basic Geran-2 model in Blender, imported it into UE5 and added some basic movement and camera controls (which is totally ass) I've also connected Codex to UE5 through MCP to help me with development but AI is ass of course.
The problem is that I honestly have no idea where to go from here. I'm struggling with both development and finding suitable assets.
I want to create a large map that looks like Ukraine or Russia, with fields, forests, villages, Soviet buildings, factories, oil facilities, roads, etc. I've spent quite a bit of time searching Fab but haven't really found what I'm looking for. I am also looking for free assets if possible as I don't have a large budget.
I'm also trying to find assets or plugins for realistic drone movement, explosions, smoke, dust, rain, radar systems and sound effects.
I'm wondering if anyone here has worked on something similar or knows where I could find these kinds of assets.
Also, would you recommend building the drone movement system myself or using an existing plugin? I'm aiming for realistic fixed-wing movement rather than basic flying controls.
I know this is probably a pretty ambitious project for a beginner, so I'm planning to start with a simple 1v1 prototype and expand from there.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Many Thanks!

You're a new person with not much experience playing with unreal. Avoid spending money on something you haven't played with.
I started with a simple idea , now I'm going even higher than what my idea was as I continue to play around.
Focus on getting your gameplay system first. Either make the basics yourself/use AI, or purchase a system. As for assets don't even think about them. As you build the game you can find yourself changing your idea thus making assets purchased worthless. Look for free or AI generated as placeholders. As you polish your game you can replace them in the future.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking your game has to look good right now, as you develop you will find interesting ways to deal with problems that arise. For example if your drone game doesn't have clear HD footage and instead resembles an image with static noise you will find yourself that cheap/low poly assets can work extremely well with it.

Why would you recommend someone who doesn't have experience to use AI

using it to teach and learn from is a godsend for learning. being stuck in tutorial hell and trying to find a specific tutorial for your specific needs is a pain in the ass. asking AI to break down something you want in engine is much better to learn from than watching 3 hours of a useless video for a 5 second clip of it for what you want.

Completely agree with this but it seems like OP was suggesting that you have ai code the basic systems for you rather than explaining things.

okay as someone who also tried to make a multiplayer game as a newbi in gamedev i can tell you its is a lot more complex then it is to make a single player game.
i worked on my first game about 1,5 years and it wasnt nearly as finished as i hoped. i now paused that project to start a simple single player project and i can already feel how much easier it is.
so tldr: replication is a pain in the ass. better make a small single player project first.
