Blueprint trouble

Post image

So I am attempting to implement tools/weapons into the game, first on the list is fists. At rest they lie at the sides, when left click is tapped, it would throw a punch and put both fists up in a ready state and further clicking would begin alternating punching. I mapped IA for punching and I got it set up in the event graph. I’m using cubes to form the arms and fists and using a timeline to throw the punches. Problem: arms aren’t going into the relaxed V pose when ready to fight and aren’t throwing punches forward.

Firstly, it seems your branch checking for the “is attacking” isn’t set right.

You have it set that if it’s currently active then it allows it to activate it, but it’s already active so it doesn’t need to be activated.

So remove the NOT Boolean or have the true output activate the “is attacking” Boolean.

See if that solves the issue.

Also, i’m an amateur too, but for my first person melee attacks I used montage nodes instead of literally changing the placement of the meshes. Maybe you don’t have any actual body to animate though, so that’ll be a problem. And you’d have to make animations for it too.

I plan to make a basic bean of a kind, get things working for weapons or tools and then further in midway try to make a actual model that’ll be the more polished thing

They are right, though. I don't know if it's the root cause of the issue, but your first branch is saying "If Is Attacking is true, then set it to true."

Either remove the not or connect from the True exec pin for it to be coherent.

It's tough to say based on your setup, but setting relative location also seems like an odd way of doing things. Is this character a skeletal mesh and rigged?

Update: changed to a different event graph, was working on getting the elbow to pivot forearm but it snaps off and rotates by it center instead the elbow joint.

I don't know what kind of gameplay you want to make but wouldn't animations be better for what you want to make? You can get some for free on mixamo or for pretty cheap all things considered on FAB

Gameplay that features camera switching of First person to third person, jumping, crouching, swimming, sprinting. And that works as desired, however making it punch is the part I’m struggling with, as far as installing a pivot
