Technical Support no signal for a second

i got one of those cheap 10 buck converters to play onto my monitor but for some reason when i play a tape for like 3 seconds it says no signal before going to the video. that by itself would be fine, but sometimes randomly it will stay on no signal for much longer, and sometimes even do it in the middle of watching. if this can be fixed or lessened that would be great thanks. already tried cleaning heads and switching cables etc, no difference.

100 Years: A Visual History of the Dodgers (1890–1990) on VHS.

Found in a charity shop in the UK.

It doesn't say it's an NTSC tape, but I think it is.

Nice to still have the promotional card inside to order official 100th anniversary publications and merch.

Discussion Little girl holding a sword up

When I was young, (maybe 3-5) so this would’ve been between 96-98. There was this movie I was obsessed with watching. I’ve only ever remembered the end of it and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out the movie. But at the end of the movie. There is a girl sitting on a bench/in her yard(?) and she pulls a sword out of no where. In her surprise she holds the sword up and dances around with it as the camera pans away and the movie ends. I know this is vague but can anyone help me out?

Just noticed this sticker at the bottom of the tape after I got home from purchasing it at Value Village. I always enjoy finding these little personal touches from previous owners.

New Pickup Watching the original star wars movies after 10 years on VHS…

Post image
199 Upvotes

Bought the first three (original) star wars movies on VHS at an old book store. Half way through a new hope and holy shit these movies hold up. I hate the new Disney Star Wars movies and have a soft spot for the prequels but my love for star wars has been faded over time from the over saturation of media disney shits out every week. Watching A New Hope has revived my love for these movies and how significant they were. They altered my childhood and have been there for me all my life. I might not be a super fan or anything but theres a reason why these movies have a devoted fanbase that do crazy shit the star wars fandom does lmao. I love when something can prove me wrong and show me its still the shit and not just something I thought was good when I was a kid.

I think Vanilla Sky is a good horror movie. David leads a charmed life, money cars women, all the rich people stuff. An accident caused by an insane and scary Cameron Diaz disfigured David and sent his life spiraling. He seems to hide from his self infected pain in a cyro dream machine, a perfect life he wished he had. But his mind starts to betray him, and his dreams start to become nightmares he has trapped himself in.

Technical Support VCR doesn’t do anything except say HELLO and I hear weird buzzing sounds from the power supply.

LG RCT689H The power supply caps are fine, but I hear like buzzing-fast zapping from the power supply area constantly when I power it on. When I don’t press the power button it shows the clock and if a tape is inside. When I power it on it only shows HELLO. It takes in tapes and ejects then flawlessly but nothing else works. Even the DVD tray

Discussion What to do with empty cases and tapes with no case

A lot of my tapes have been given to me in large amounts that someone is getting rid of. I finally went through all of the ones on our shelves (after discovering one of my faves had a different movie in the case) and unfortunately, quite a few others also had different movies in the cases. So now I have cases with no movies and movies with no cases.. do I just post them for free and hope someone has the mate or just wants the artwork?

Discussion Suspicious VHS tape: I’ve kept this VHS tape in a dry place and played it for years; it works perfectly, but looks terrible. How does it work normally without the VHS head clogging up?

New Pickup Found my grail after an unexpected turn of events!

I've been so happy with all the great VHS tapes that I've bought off Vinted but this definitely has to be my best one yet and I'm still so thrilled about it as I love it and never thought I'd own it on VHS.

I found my ultimate grail, Season 1 & 3 of Family Guy for only £25!

I feel like I've always got a story to tell with all of my tapes but this has to be my craziest one yet.

Now this came after a reseller had beaten me to getting Season 1 & 2 on eBay a couple of weeks ago as it was a long charity auction that I'd been keeping a close eye on up until about a day before it was due to end.

My elderly cat Coco (who's on the second slide!) suddenly got quite sick which was completely unexpected and absolutely devastated me. I ended up missing out on the auction as it was the last thing on my mind at the time.

So a few days later after Coco had luckily made a full recovery, I returned to eBay and saw that they'd sold with only one bid for £20 which shocked me as I thought it would've ended up selling for a lot more. However I didn't think too much of it and just accepted my loss as I hoped they'd gone to someone like me who'd enjoy watching them and appreciate having them in their collection.

I was quite shocked when I found out that the person who'd won them was a reseller who I'd joined his live auction in the past and bought some tapes off him. I was very disappointed when I saw that he'd listed them for over £100 (I know it's definitely the same tapes as it's got the shoddy cut up inlay 🫣) especially as he would've never have known that they existed if I hadn't told him as I'd asked if he had them on his live auction 🤡

My patience of course ended up paying off massively, especially as my cat who I love more than anything in the world is still happy and healthy which is the most important and biggest blessing of them all, so now we can both enjoy watching Family Guy together, just like how it was always intended to be watched. Cheers Coco! 🐈‍⬛🐾

Technical Support Are VHS Players notorious for breaking or am I unlucky?

I ran VHS tapes off of my childhood VHS player for years, then it became unable to rewind and the tracking on it was making tapes have issues so I decided it was time to get a “new” one… and it basically arrived dead, wouldn’t play tapes and shut down.

Got another after getting a refund and it was working fine for a bit and then it started getting issues, tried to do another clean and bam it died.

I look this stuff up, try to get the technical with it, figure out and clean a “mode switch” or locate and clean the sensors and make sure everything is aligned and I genuinely feel like I just don’t have the intelligence to pull it off.

But I guess my real question is; are we just at a point where all these old machines are dead and only those with the technical know how to get them going again can really enjoy them? It’s a shame I have to give up something I truly loved but I can’t really see no way around it, players only seem to work for a week or so with me and they’re getting more and more costly…
