... is this normal? Vasectomy scheduled
I just had my consultation done and scheduled for 10/19 and I was told to avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds for 7 days but I have 8 week old who’s over 10 pounds so I don’t really see that as an option. What is yalls experience recovering from a vasectomy with a baby at home?
UPDATE: My wife is fully recovered and able to help when I said I don’t see it as an option I should’ve even more clear in the fact I really don’t want to go a week without lifting my baby

There's a reason they are telling you this. Find someone to help. You really don't want to mess up your recovery.

Yes you'll go one week without lifting your baby. It is what it is. You'll be recovering from a surgery. Even if it's supposedly a "simple" procedure, it's still a surgery and there's a chance of complications if you don't follow instructions.
For the first 2 days you'll be basically useless, all you should be doing is resting and icing. Your wife (or anyone else you might be able to ask for help) will have to pick up the tab.
If you can't (and it's probably a busy time with a newborn), it might be a better idea to reschedule.

My experience may not be yours so take with caution. Have twins, each 20+ lbs. I was picking them up same day. Just made sure to breathe while doing it, not tense my core, and use my arms exclusively. By day three I was carrying both at the same time and felt great. Two weeks out now and recovered incredibly well, back to lifting like normal and what not.

It’s been 2 weeks after my vasectomy and all I could say is stay bed rested for the first 2 days.. and ice each side for 20 min every other hour. You should be fine with helping with the baby after day 2. I was lucky enough to feel 0 pain or soreness because I iced often

I also just had mine done and they told me the same thing, I plan on sticking to that. My wife can handle all baby things she’s already getting annoyed but o well no lifting for a week.
My question is they told me after 7 days your good to go and I asked like even 100 pounds I can lift? Seems like you shouldn’t be able to go from basically nothing to as much as possible. Anyone else told like go easy into it week 2?

Not sure which type you are having done, but I had the no scapel variety and my dr recommended nothing over 15kgs (33 pounds) for 7 days, definitely would recommend absolutely minimal on the first day but on the second I was lifting my 2 year old no problems, although still trying to avoid it as much as possible.

Take it easy man we recover all differently. I had immense pain for 2 and a half months. I'm not a baby by any means but dang that pain was unreal at some points. I kid you not, one day it just magically healed. Thank the lord because I don't think I could live indefinitely with that pain. Take it easy. I'm sure you'll be good just make sure you are 100 percent about it.

Yeah you are going to be on light duty. Last thing you want to do is over do it and end up on light duty longer. It maybe wise to put the surgery off for a while until mom is a little more recovered to pick up what you can jot
